EDIT: and i have a question, having to do with my new fanfic.

who do you think would be most likely to accidentally get someone pregnant?

i'm thinking chris or guy, but, i'll let you decide. :D!!

:DKyra suggested Car for the er perv scene:wink3:I thought that was a good one

but do you think the car or Bakery..or couch:lol:

@christina- hmmm, i think guy has a rep for being a man-whore around here, so it might actually be better to use chris instead. :P

CHAPTER 6--where all medical rules are thrown out the window. :D

Two weeks later.

I’ll never forget the moment when I got the call. It was ten in the morning, and I was sitting by the bed, strumming my bass absently. I started, glancing up as the phone rang. I reached for it unsteadily and checked the caller ID. It was the hospital. I swallowed, suddenly fearing the worst. What if Jonny had died? I finally answered the call, my hand shaking.

“Hello?”

“G...Guy?” asked a bleary, throaty voice. It was slightly nasally. It was completely and utterly familiar. It belonged to Jonathan Buckland.

I was silent, my mouth opening and closing in shock. “I know that’s....you, mate.” he said. I could practically hear the tired smile in his voice. Part of me believed I was dreaming; maybe hallucinating. The other part told me he wasn’t only alive, but awake.

“Jonny?” I gasped, letting my bass slip off my lap. “Jon...?”

“Yeah.” he said. “I remembered...you were in the car...they told me you had been here...”

“It’s okay.” I whispered. “I’m fine.”

“Thank god, I was scared...”

“Jonny.” I interrupted him, my voice barely existent. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, it’s my fault...”

“What?” he asked, his voice thick with confusion. “What’re you talking about? Guy, I’m sorry...I can’t think right now...I just woke up yesterday. Almost three weeks, they told me I’ve been out. God...”

“I’ll be right there.” I said, pressing my face to the phone. “I’m coming.” I didn’t even give him a chance to respond before throwing the receiver down and propelling myself up and out of the room. I grabbed my car keys and ran out into the humid morning air.

I didn’t wait for anyone to give me permission to enter the wing of the hospital. I let myself in; holding my chest as I ran along the hallway. I finally skidded to a halt at his room. What I saw took the breath from my lungs. He was sitting up in the bed, looking pale and tired, but miraculously alright. He still looked pretty beat up, but it wasn't as obvious that he'd been through so much trauma. Chloe, Violet, Chris and an old doctor were standing around the room as I slid in. Everyone looked my way except Chloe, who was too absorbed by her husband. I walked up to Jonny, my heart pounding and my mind buzzing in shock.

The doctor said something that flew over my head, and in a few minutes, he left. Jonny was looking at us all one by one, overwhelmed and worn out. When he turned to me, something in his face changed. “Hey.” he murmured. “You okay?” I just nodded, not having the strength or the will to speak.

Gingerly, I reached out to touch his arm. He flexed his muscles under my hand, looking up at me worriedly. “I was scared you would die.” I admitted finally. Even as I said it, the thought of him dying seemed distant and unrealistic. For the first time, my pain was being replaced by unprecedented joy and relief.

“Well, I’m not dead, sorry.” he joked weakly. Wordlessly, I leaned down and kissed him on the forehead before hugging him carefully. I didn’t think he was surprised; he merely placed his hand on my back and let me hold onto him for as long as I needed. I had practically forgotten there were three other people in the room. But they did nothing; they seemed to sense that anyone who tried to get between us would be hit...maybe more than once. They didn’t say anything, except for Violet, who asked her mother if I was sad.

Finally, I let go of him and eventually drifted backwards to stay against the wall. Jonny was focusing on his wife as best he could, despite the disorientation of just waking up. I supposed he had already spent time with Chris; otherwise he would have been right up there with them. But instead, he was leaning against the wall next to me. “I’m sorry I shoved you.” he said quietly. “I wasn’t thinking...I could’ve hurt you.” He sounded guilty.

“I deserved it.” I said simply, not really looking at him. “God, the shit I said...” my voice cracked slightly. “I’m sorry, Chris.”

“I understand.” He put a hand gingerly on my shoulder, making me glance up. “This whole thing...it was not your fault.”

Instead of answering, I gave a noncommittal nod. Jonny was awake, and for now, that was all that mattered.

He had to stay in the hospital for another week; just to make sure all his injuries were healed enough to be managed at home. The doctors were lenient in letting him out, but he had to follow a strict physical therapy schedule and had to check in with his physician pretty much every day. Everyone called him the luckiest man in the ward for getting to go home early.

Finally, on the day of his release, we walked with him as he pushed himself along in a wheelchair. Will backed him up, walking near the thing but not too close. Chris stayed right on top of him, ruffling Jonny’s hair and rejoicing in the fact that his best friend was finally back with him. Chloe walked alongside everyone, carrying Violet. Everybody looked so happy and relieved.

I was there as well, leading the group. I hadn’t gotten the stitches out of my arm yet, and my bruises were a sickly shade of yellow. But they were healing. My ribs no longer hurt as badly as they had a few days ago. The only part of me that truly remained damaged was my psyche. I still couldn’t shake the feeling that I was responsible for everyone’s three weeks of hell. But now that Jonny was awake and doing well, some of the edge had been taken off my pain, which I was grateful for.

“Guys...do you want to come over to my place eventually? After this PT shit is over?” Jonny asked us, looking around at the group. Will looked as if someone had just offered him the Crown Jewels.

“Of course, J!” chirped Chris, looking like an excited schoolboy.

I smiled tiredly. “Mad for it.” No matter how tired or troubled I was, Jonny made me feel that everything wasn’t lost. I was eternally grateful for every moment I had with him.

Jonny made a face and punched me weakly in the back. “You’re such a little stick in the mud, Guy.”

“What?” I murmured indignantly. “I said I’d go, mate.” I heard Jonny heave a sigh.

“I know.”

It was raining when we got outside, so I stopped to pull my hood up over my eyes and look back at my companions. Chris was fine in the rain, shaking himself out like a puppy in a sprinkler. Will shivered slightly; wearing no jacket. Jonny looked like it was the first time he’d ever experienced rain; he stared up at the sky in wonder. I took the magazine I was carrying and held it over his head, making him laugh.
