ezny
Best of 2008 Albums of the year http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/24958695/albums_of_the_year/31 1 | TV on the Radio: Dear Science 2 | Bob Dylan: Tell Tale Signs — The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 3 | Lil Wayne: Tha Carter III 4 | My Morning Jacket: Evil Urges 5 | John Mellencamp: Life, Death, Love and Freedom 6 | Santogold: Santogold 7 | Coldplay: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends During the sessions for Viva la Vida, Chris Martin consulted a hypnotist to help with the pressure of writing the Great American Rock Album. And it worked. Coldplay got ambitious, calling in Talking Heads and U2 producer Brian Eno, drawing on exotic instruments like Indian tablas and the Persian santur, writing about world events instead of their own feelings, and making music as far-reaching as their global fan base. They ended up with an album that's massively expansive yet intimate enough to incite lighter-waving from London to Tokyo. 8 | Beck: Modern Guilt 9 | Metallica: Death Magnetic 10 | Vampire Weekend: Vampire Weekend 11 | Fleet Foxes: Fleet Foxes 12 | Guns n' Roses: Chinese Democracy 13 | Blitzen Trapper: Furr 14 | Ryan Adams and the Cardinals: Cardinology 15 | The Black Keys: Attack & Release 16 | Randy Newman: Harps and Angels 17 | B.B. Vivek
Indeed, Lil Wayne's up there because he probably made a better rap album to the rap genre then what Coldplay did with the rock genre.

Motoi
Haha well, its hard to say that an artist with universal acclaim from critics is terrible, I think its a matter of taste. Personally im not into his music, but I've listened to his album and I think hes got some really clever lyrics. He was also one of the biggest selling artists this year too, can't forget that. Corkus
Well, you have to give Lil Wayne credit for weaseling his way into countless songs by countless other artists, most of which are in another genre. And I'm still predicting that he takes the Grammy for Best Album given his acclaim, even if I never once cared for his genre in general, and therefore cannot tell the good from the bad. :P
carkids
COLDPLAY should be in first place!!

What makes viva la vida a good album is that it is music that moves you. The music that I can listen to , my sister, my father,my mother, my friends, my teachers...So you see who wins. Regardless the genre.
