I know it technically doesn't begin till sundown, but for anyone who celebrates it, Happy Hanukkah!

I'm only Jewish on my mom's side and not religious but we celebrate out of tradition. I also celebrate Christmas. (No I don't get twice as many presents:P)

I'm also a halfsie. :P Same deal actually- on my mom's side, and we celebrate it just for fun, not religiously or anything. Happy Hanukkah! :D

Latkes!!!:o Need some Latkes now!

Happy Hanukkah- to all those who celebrate it. It bugs me when people say merry christmas and not happy holidays, like when you are leaving a store during the holiday season.

It really bothers me when people overreact to things like that. Like when my teacher last year asked if he could put a Christmas tree up in our classroom, he asked so he wouldn't offend anyone.

Oh no! There's a tree with lights! I'm so offended, I can't focus on my studies!!

no. its not overreacting. There is more than just christmas during the holiday season. So I think by saying Happy Holidays, one is recognizing more than just one group of people. One should not assume that everyone celebrates xmas. I also dont find it hard to say "happy holidays" over "merry christmas"

However, flipping out over a tree would be overracting.. less someone in your class was alergic to it.

Also your teacher was just being polite to other peoples cultures. However.. its a tree.. not like he asked to hang up something inappropriate.

lol.. i remember the holiday armadillo too!!!

anyway, for your general knowledge...

the story of hanukkah is when the greeks came to israel and destoyed the jewish temple and did some bad stuff... and then the jewish ppl faught back! and they got their temple back... they were called the maccabis back then... and yehuda the macabbi lead the battle!

and the thing with the lights is that they found some oil, and the oil lasted them for 8 days of light, and it was a miracle....

so we celebrate the miracle and light 8 candles during 8 days... one for each day the the oil lasted :P

thats it!!!
