What's the point in the overwrite feature?

You know the story, you are typing something, only to go back to add something else, but to your horror you have accidentally hit the insert key on your keyboard to turn on "overwrite", which overwrites your work which you didn't want it to do.

I have never been able to find a proper reason for having the overwrite feature on the computers, so maybe hopefully someone will be able to tell me.

Hit the "insert" key again to turn the bastard function off

I know now but there was a time when I didn't and it made me want to stick a pen through my computer screen. It seems there is no point to it whatsoever. Let's write to Bill gates and complain!!

I don't even know how to switch that on. I have switched it on earlier in my life and it's so fricking annoying! I just end up trying to save my work by copying the stuff i've already written and doing some other useless things

The insert function is about as useless as the Alt-F4 function.

Are you serious?

I always use it to turn off my computer or programs...

It's annoying to move the mouse so Alt-F4 is perfect!

Here's a list with shortcuts for anyone interested.

ALT+F4: Quit program

CTRL+C: Copy

CTRL+X: Cut

CTRL+V: Paste

CTRL+Z: Undo the last command

CTRL+T: open new tab in Mozilla

alt+shift : switch keyboard language.

Those are my favourites :)
