Black Rose
You know the story, you are typing something, only to go back to add something else, but to your horror you have accidentally hit the insert key on your keyboard to turn on "overwrite", which overwrites your work which you didn't want it to do. I have never been able to find a proper reason for having the overwrite feature on the computers, so maybe hopefully someone will be able to tell me. Darlene_Ihnfsa
easy, if you've stolen a work for school and just need to "overwrite" your name on it. :P nah kidding, i really don't see the point of that option either. :\
Pseudonym
I really don't know. I do know it used to drive me nuts because I didn't know how to turn it off, so I'd be sitting there typing over all my work helplessly.:(

Pseudonym
Hit the "insert" key again to turn the bastard function off I know now but there was a time when I didn't and it made me want to stick a pen through my computer screen. It seems there is no point to it whatsoever. Let's write to Bill gates and complain!!
Black Rose
Like the Alt Gr key, I think the Insert key has had it's day.

Petit Prince
Hit the "insert" key again to turn the bastard function off I didn't know you could do that. I always close the programme to turn it off.
Black Rose
The insert key's primary function is to swap between the two types of text entry. Although there is no point in the overwrite text entry feature, if you want to get rid of text it's easier to delete the text.
The Escapist
^True. Its a dumb feature and must only be used by experts/
MrMagpie
Everything in life has a reason and purpose. Maybe it will be a line of discussion used when you find that perfect him or her...and it will set you up for a life full of love and happiness. busybeeburns
The insert function is about as useless as the Alt-F4 function.

Jenjie
the overwrite function is there so that Murphy can laugh at me when I happily type away and then realise I mis-hit the key and have made nonsense of my lovely typing

zeoir
I don't even know how to switch that on. I have switched it on earlier in my life and it's so fricking annoying! I just end up trying to save my work by copying the stuff i've already written and doing some other useless things

Ryujiki
Alt+F4 is more useful than you think! Also Crtl + Enter when you were looking a page in the web address bar (Crtl+Enter would add the http://...... .com to whatever you type in the address bar)
chipotle
^^ yes it did! I tried! I didn't know about that either. Mmmm... computer candy :D
SueDeNimes
The insert function is about as useless as the Alt-F4 function. Are you serious? I always use it to turn off my computer or programs... It's annoying to move the mouse so Alt-F4 is perfect! Here's a list with shortcuts for anyone interested. ALT+F4: Quit program CTRL+C: Copy CTRL+X: Cut CTRL+V: Paste CTRL+Z: Undo the last command CTRL+T: open new tab in Mozilla alt+shift : switch keyboard language. Those are my favourites :)
Jack
he only said it so people would press it to see what it does. although why he'd wanna make people close coldplaying is beyond me. since the more people here, the better for him.
