Who's playing on sunday's concert???

Valid argument. But look at who he hangs out with, Lobbyist, big business, wall street, and Washington Insiders. All while they gave the majority of money to him, the majority of power to him and made him and gave him what he has.

He's a typical politician no matter if a large amount of average Joe's were fooled into giving him money, because in the end the extremely rich and corrupt in Washington and Wall Street gave him more money and more opportunities and many favors.

To sum it up, in the end corrupt politicians, bankers and wall street gave Obama more and are surrounding him and have for many years, thus they will win out not the average American.:veryangry2:

i think it's way pushing it to say that obama is just bush all over again. sure, they're both politicians, and politics in america work a certain way, but i for one trust in obama for now when he says that he wants to change the way that politics work in america. i don't think obama is the cure to all of our problems, but i think he's a HUGE potential stepping stone to the way there. that's the only thing we can hope for now, and i have all the good feelings in the world about it. to each their own, but i think being that cynical about a new administration is just furthering along the problem. the things that would make the country better according to the things you've posted are too drastic to ever be successful at this point in time, in my opinion, and i think that enacting such things would put the country in a bigger hole than it's already in right now. to me, it's all about the right process leading to the right outcome. sadly, we can't become europe right now, but i for one am believing that because of obama's potential, we'll start on the road to getting there.

I've yet to see any of his major policies differ from Bush's. With respect, no one has shown any major difference, just minor words and small policy changes. Its what our politicians do, play American against each other and when people want change, they offer up a phony candidate running on change and just change minor issue's on the surface. I've asked many times anyone to show me Obama's "Change" and how he is different.

What I am advocating for, I do not like nor want, but know must happen. I used to be a big government fan, but through opening up my mind I've realized what is going on and America will too, but after many hard years and a lot of lost money, and probably a lot of violence too.

The medicine may taste bad, but you have to take it to get better and the longer we wait the worse it'll get and less likely the medicine will work. What I speak of sucks, but America will find out is the only way in the future.

Were switching places with China, everything that works China is starting to do and is becoming wealthy, and everything that fails we are doing and losing our wealth. Within 10 years I hope American realize what is going on and go back to proven economics and realize what Washington is doing. But by then China will be king and we'll have to pay for our ignorance.

Hey Nick, he's not in office just yet, hence he's not really made any policy changes because legally he can't until he's sworn into office!:P

But the inauguration will be a blast!! I'm really really glad Obama is going to be president, and I sincerely hope everyone who goes has the time of their lives!!

Hey everyone! Chelsea suggested that I post my stories and pictures from the concert & inauguration here, so I am :nice:

Anyway, I just got back from the concert, and am currently defrosting (it's SO COLD) and uploading pictures! I'll post them all here when they're all on my computer  The concert was incredible, I don't know if any of you watched it... The most exciting parts were definitely Obama's speech (obviously), U2, Stevie Wonder, and Steve Carell. I was pretty close to the stage, about as close as you could get without a VIP pass, so it was great!

Alright, I've uploaded my first few pictures here, but I'm still working on it, I have about 400 pictures to sort through :stunned:

NO, but his policies have been for 8 years and look where they got us!

I think I might watch it anyways just to see what happens, maybe we'll have a massive Soviet style military parade afterwards! But it does not matter because Obama follows John Maynard Keynes economics.

"A sound banker, alas, is not one who foresees danger and avoids it, but one who, when he is ruined, is ruined in a conventional way along with his fellows, so that no one can really blame him."

John Maynard Keynes, 1931.

Can we please take the debate elsewhere? I'd rather keep this thread for its designated purpose, and to post pictures of the events, not have anyone claiming Obama is "Bush the Third" and being pessimistic... Please don't ruin the excitement of the moment for other people, even if you're not excited yourself! ;)

I simply advocate for reality and having an open mind.

I was being serious about the military parade.

aww, that's great, zoe :nice:. my friend went too, but i don't know where she was or anything--she goes to american university down there. i would have loved to see U2!

i think if chris hadn't done the NRJ thing in france, and if they didn't need a vacation so badly, coldplay probably would have been there :wacky:

That's nice of you of sharing your story with us :nice:

Oh, I don't have HBO, so I couldn't watch the concert. I saw some bits on CNN.

Yeah, you were close enough

i won't be going, i'll be watching it on tv instead
Same here!

I remember being in school for Bush's second inaguration, so I couldn't see it even though the marching band of our high school was chosen to be part of the Inaguration parade.

Going off-topic, my family and I have always talked about of what a big challenge it was going to be for whoever won to be President. AND that was before the financial meltdown. The economic downturn was already being felt in my town because we are having a ginormous housing bubble-burst.

While we understand that this is a historic moment that means a lot to many people (we're immigrants from a rather homogenous mixed-race nation), we worry about what's next after the shine wears off (haha, Coldplay quoting)

we have 5 HBO channels at college here, but none of them were the right one showing the concert . or maybe my friend just lied to me when she told me they were replaying the concert at 7PM.

anyway, here at college, they canceled classes from 11:45 to like 2 or something so everyone can watch the inauguration :wacky:. i got out for the day at 11:45 anyway, but i thought that was nice and uncharacteristic of them to do.

Yeah, it was actually pretty weird without them! I mean, all of their BFFs were there like Beyonce and U2, and they love Obama so much... Oh well, they were there in spirit! :P

U2 was pretty awesome, they were the only ones who played more than one song. Bono tried to do a crowd singalong thing, but it backfired because the sound got more and more delayed the further back the crowd went... So everyone was singing at a different time, and didn't know what to sing. Poor Bono! :embarassed:

There were tons and tons of people there, the crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial all the way down the reflecting pool and way past the Washington Monument (for those of you who don't know, that's A LOT of people)! The entire city is such a mess right now, the tourists are taking it over! You should've seen the Metro farecard machines today...

Apparently you could watch it even if you don't subscribe to HBO, which I don't understand at all  But that's what they said on the news!

U2 played more than one song? AWESOME!

I just checked on YouTube, and someone posted a vid of their rehearsal. They played "City of Bliding Lights" YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I liked that song even before Obama used it.

About DC being crowed, I'll guess I'll feel the same in two weeks when the Super Bowl takes places in Tampa. AND I live close to the stadium, which means traffic will be a nightmare

Yup, they played that and "Pride" too, since that's about MLK Jr.... It was pretty epic!

Well there are several million extra people in our tiny city, and the normal population is less than 600,000, so it feels ridiculously crowded. We've been advised to not even try traveling to drugstores, gas stations, etc since all of the streets are so full! Some estimates are already saying more than 400,000 people attended the concert today- that's almost the entire DC population! :stunned: *hides under rock*
