How you see the world :-)

I'm curious how other people think about Belgium, what you guys know about it, and how you see it. I feel like the only time our tiny country makes the news, it is not about a good thing, so I wonder how foreigners see that.

How Belgium sees the world?

America is the land of dreams. Rather negative the last 4 years, after Bush was re-elected. But now you have chosen Obama, we all love you! For us, it is the place where everything is huge, and where everything is possible. All Belgians want to visit America ever.

England: beautiful country, with lots of roses. Although a lot of hooligans as well . Oh, and British people can't deal with Belgian beer :D

Uhm, what other coutries are here?

for me as an european habitant belgium is the capital city somehow,

cause in brussels is one part of the european paliament..

so everytime i think of belgium i have to think of the EU :)

and i have met nice belgium people at an snowboard camp in switzerland long time ago! :)

but i remember one really really bad thing. shame on dutroux..

but belgians to blame for is wrong.

what else do i know about belgium?

hmmm.. yeah i know marc wilmots. an old soccer star! but he does not play soccer anymore ;)

and you speek french and dutch in belgium, right!?

what do you think of switzerland? :D

Wow, you know a lot about Belgium! Yes, Dutroux... A complete nightmare. He is still in prison (of course) and they are going to break down the house where he held those girls. He is the enemy nr 1 here...

Yes, we do speak French and Dutch (although my French is terrible).

Hmmmm, Switzerland. First thing I think about is money. I don't know why, but your country sounds rich :) And a lot of rich people here open extra banc accounts in Switzerland. I also think about beautiful nature and snow. I would really love to visit your country one day. Friends who have visited tell me only nice things! And you speak French, is that correct?

right. in switzerland there is a part where they speak french, but there is an italian part as well !!! but main language is swiss german.

and there is a minority of rhaeto-romanic (only old people speek that..).

hmmm switzerland is rich but not all the people who live there are rich too!

you can buy expensive watches and all that stuff but I prefer the nature and the cheese and the chocolate :D

so if you dont speek french so well. do you prefer dutch then??

(by the way: i dont live there! i just got their citizenship. i grew up in germany.. so i have a dual citizenship.. ;)

and you speek french and dutch in belgium, right!?

we also speak german. we have 3 official languages although not a lot of people speak german.

you live in a multilingual country then! :nice:

Good question!

Belgium... EU, of course. Brussels lace, Manneken Pis (statue), monarchy.

Waffles, french fries, chocolate. I also think about mussels, but that might be wrong.

I can only think about food, I'm hungry. Time for lunch.

Interesting to hear your thoughts about Sweden when I get back :)

Belgium

What We Think About Belgium!

Steve's family is Flemish.. hmm.. and Bob's is Walloon, so that almost covers the range.. Let's see - there's excellent farmers, good soil: beets, cows, rye, wheat, and potatoes. The cities have great industries, textiles, products made from flax (finished as linen).. Of course the Belgians are famous for their chocolate:), beer, waffles, draft horses.. Antwerp is "The Diamond Capitol" of the world as I recall, and Brussels - besides being the capitol, isn't Brussels also the capitol of the Hague, and EU? You've got land reclaimed from the sea as Netherlanders did also, so I'm guessing lots of bulbs are grown as well (?) Anyhow, good fertile bottom land, excellent for a wide variety of crops. Historically, our state had a great influx of Belgians who were experts at mining, and hence the "Belgian Miners" is synonymous with some of the larger mines in the region (Lead, Iron and Copper). Isn't that where the pasties come from(?) - I think so, because it's either Belgium or Cornish miners who started the tradition..

Brussels Sprouts?:P

Antwerp has always sprung to mind as a busy port - heck, I think the print in my room might be a scene from old Antwerp (?) Probably a print from an old Flemmish master..:artist:

Anyhow, that's what comes to mind!

Oh, and British people can't deal with Belgian beer :D

Stella's rather popular in Britain.

I went to Belgium once. Great place, friendly people, good waffles:D

I loved Belgium, my favorite place to visit along with France.

Interesting to hear your thoughts about Sweden when I get back :)

Cold. Scandinavian country. Stockholm's the capital. Very expensive place to live. High taxes. No university fees (I think). Good social system. It also makes me think of reindeers, ABBA and Ikea.

I dont know anything about belgium but how does the world see australia?

Oh, Sweden... That is one of the countries I want to see the most. Snow, beautiful nature, clear water, Stockholm.

Now I think about Kaupthing as well, because Iceland is not that far away from you.

And about high prices for food and beverage, is that correct?

Oh yes, and about Ikea and ABBA!

Australia, home of The Flying Doctors! I LOVED that show when I was a kid.

And: the land of kangourous, Ayer's Rock and Sidney.

^all true but its funny to see how much more the world is missing out on.

All correct! But where I live we haven't had snow the last 2 years.

You knew Ikea is Swedish?! Funny!

I guess food and beverage are a bit more expensive than some countries, but our unis are free! So welcome here to study, it's all paid for (about to change for foreign students tho)! :D

belgium makes me think of waffles and chocolate, and brussel sprouts :P. i've technically been to belgium, though only on a train through that stopped in brussels and antwerp on the way to paris from holland.

australia makes me think of beaches, the accent, kangaroos, barbecues, finding nemo, vegemite, digeridoos, and the dusty outback. i want to go someday, so badly.

sweden makes me think of snow and ikea, two things i love. that's another place i really want to go. also, all the liberal mindedness is quite attractive to me.

Belgium makes me think of World War 1 and the trenches and the horrible conditions and terrible loss of life on both sides. It makes me think of the EU and it's mindless burocracy.I've been there though and I really liked the people they seemed very friendly but very reserved, it also seemed a really quiet place which was nice:).

Australlia makes me think of snakes :D, desert and lots of open space, great modern cities, surfing and the beach.

Australia... aborigines, eucalyptus trees, Steve Irwin, sharks, surfing, master Elrond, Sydney opera house, dangerous spiders, Hugh Jackman and lots of other actors/actresses, INXS, Men at Work and many other bands, lots of immigrants (many Swedes), dollar, great accent, Kylie...

Can't think of any food tho... hmm...

Would love to go there!

Good one! I'm very proud of that :) Welcome to Sweden!

everything people have said about australia so far is pretty much correct

[/b]

Nice! I'm very proud of that :) Welcome to Sweden!

Sweeden always makes me think of sensible politics, the way thier outlook is on life.It makes me think of (sorry) boring cars and of lakes and forests and snow and people with really blonde hair.
