Coldplay Is Officially a Cover Band

The chord progression of the verse of Viva la Vida is exactly the same as the chord progression of the chorus of Satriani's song except they transposed it to a different key and used the relative minor of the first chord. They are going to settle out of court with Satriani in order to avoid the embarrassment of being proved as plagiarists.

What a bunch of doofuses!!

youre hilarious :dozey:

They won't settle out of court because they're not stupid enough to think that you can patent a common four chord progression. They didn't plagiarize anyone, and there's insufficient evidence that they ever did. So please don't post on a forum just to attack the band it's for. But if you must, at least have the intelligence to prepare a valid argument. Because frankly we're sick of people like you.

you are always so well spoken :)

It's not just the progression. The two respective tempos are within two beats per minute of each other, that being around 137 bpm. The respective rhythms of the two chord progressions are exactly the same. And the melodic progression of Satriani's guitar hook in his chorus is exactly the same as Martin's vocal melodic progression.

Of course you probably won't watch these because you have no interest in actually figuring out why Satriani sued.

most people here have watched a lot of those.

please go to a satarini forum and talk crap about coldplay, not here.

I know why Satriani sued.

DOESN'T MEAN HE IS FUCKING RIGHT DOES IT.

You're clearly a highly intellectual human being, so would you care to explain to us ignorant folk about key transposition and the notion of the relative minor? We're clearly completely unaware about the nuances of a case that's been heavily discussed (from both sides) here for months.

..No?

Or are you just here to piss people off?

You save your pocket money there, matey. You'll rack up quite a little debt with a promise like that.

You don't think we've been over this a million fucking times! Of course we've seen the video's, you're not the first guy to come on this forum with those same videos, you're more like the 20th.

But you may not know that Satriani's song and melody isn't entirely original on it's own. as it bears striking similarities to a previous song by Enanitos Verdes.

Not to mention, your music expert never declares that coldplay plagiarized anything, and even acknowledges in his forum posts that it isn't sufficent similarity to win a court case. The melody is essentially three notes in different rythm. It' a common progression and on the whole the two songs are miles apart. To think Chris Martin would base VLV off it is absurd, and the guy can't even quote Bob Dylan with out citing his source.

Hey, here's another example of them ripping off a song. Just listen to the intro guitar hook of the original song:

And compare it to the guitar hook of the Coldplay song:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htM6XURPq3Y]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htM6XURPq3Y[/ame]

Now Coldplay changes some of the notes in this one, I will admit, and they don't go up a whole step like the original. So the melody is not exactly the same, but the rhythm of the hook is identical.

:\

Coldplay have already categorically stated that they will not settle out of court - they do not have anything to be worried about. Do you really think that a band as original and blatantly open about influences as they have been for so long, would now try to sneak a steal from another song - please! We have all watched and scrutinized the videos of the songs I am sure, and any similarities are purely coincidental. why would someone need an escort girl to be bought, unless thats what you are used to??

This is getting more pathetic. The melody's are clearly different. In fact there's a depeche mode song that sound very similar to both songs. How can this be?: coincidence! can you comprehend it?

Anyway the Life technicolor rifff was Jon Hopkins who came up with it and let Coldplay use it...so if anyone was to blame its him not Coldplay...haha but its funny how we alwyas get this idiots wh come here and do and say the same thing......

we can thank debs for this one :D

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znrHzefl8cM]YouTube - Joe Satriani vs Los Enanitos Verdes[/ame]

can you seriously go away?

you really think its going to help the court case by complaining to coldplay FANS about the "similarities" between these two songs?

we've heard it.

we dont need to hear it again.

youre wasting your time.

coldplay is so modest that they would say they stole a song or part of a song from someone even if they havent. examples: speed of sound made by "copying" running up that hill

lost was their attempt at "sing" by blur. and when they have actually used pieces from others, they give credit/ask permission: kraftwerk's computer love riff for talk, and jon hopkin's melody for LiT.

they wouldnt just randomly plagarize satch. they would totally have asked permission.

Actually I'm pretty sure Jon Hopkins just supplied the intro, not the dulcimer. Not that it affects the argument.

They wouldn't use something from that fucker in the first place :P.
