March 28, 200917 yr Soldiers become soldiers to go to college without having to pay through the nose for it. Everyone I know who's joining the army cites this is as a reason; also people consider the military experience to be valuable -- both the parents and the kids do. It's anti-individualist indoctrination. A soldier makes a good employee, only in the sense that he obeys. And of course the families might have a tiny bit of extra cash on hand to send their kids to college if they weren't financing 700+ overseas military bases involuntarily by their taxes. ;)

It's true that soldiers make good employees -- they tend to do what's needed. Honestly though, serious athletics does that as well -- I can already tell that's happening to me, and I'm fifteen and not in the army. :shrug:

Team sports are fun when you're participating in them and you don't take them too seriously, but what happens when people develop an allegiance to a particular team (usually the one that represents their geographical location)? They waste of emotional energy. Their happiness is based on the success of something entirely outside of their control - either their teammates or the members of their chosen team. It's basically training young people to be nationalist. You already see that sort of thing with the Republicans and Democrats. The two parties are virtually identical in the policies they effectuate, but people still feel joy when the opposing party fails or their party wins.

That's individual :P More or less, the amount of effort the individual puts in directly correlates with the amount of success, not counting obvious genetic talent/ability. Team sports scare me. :P I don't like them very much -- I play tennis occasionally, but our school isn't really into the whole "school spirit" thing -- but you look at how everyone in my city treats Catholic school high school football and it's INSANE, because it's just a bunch of highschoolers tackling each other and stuff. :confused: High school sports can be vicious. edit: WHEN did we get a shrug smiley?!?!?!
