Unfortunately it's no laughing matter, though!!

Duffys album is actually a cracking album, I think they should have won best band but Elbow seem to be in at the moment, the only one I can't believe about is GA purely because the Promise I think is their weakest song to date and didn't desever to be song of year. I can't comment on iron Maidon as I've not seen them (personally Muse should have won that for V and RAH alone but they weren't even nominated)

not seen the awards as I was at War Child but my folks taped it..looks like I didn't miss much

I can actually see why this has happened. I'm not saying it makes it right, but it's the same reason that only one of Coldplay's stadium shows in the UK has sold out...they left it too long to come here and tour it.

Whilst they were travelling the world they kind of got forgotten about, which is why their album quickly slipped out of the top 40 after a few weeks at the top, making it only the 5th best selling album in the UK last year.

Whilst they were away KoL, Take That and Duffy were touring England, doing promotion etc. Which is why their albums are all still highly placed and Coldplay's is nowhere to be found.

It's a shame and they should have won something definitely, I'm not disputing that, but I can see how they may have been missed.

i'm more surprised than angry still, but i see mich's point. i'm not there to see it, obviously, but it seems like the UK really did get pretty well snubbed for the most part in 2008, save for three weeks in december or whatever it was. that's nothing compared to what they did in the rest of the world. even though the UK is a small place and all that, i think their home nation should have gotten a bit more attention than 2-3 weeks at the very end of their tour.

still, though, even though i'm a bit unclear on how the brits work in terms of voting and all (i voted, i promise, but i've been too busy to read all the terms and blah blah), i'm still stunned that the biggest act in the world won nothing. shouldn't it be about the MUSIC, too, and not about who snubbed who when? then again, i guess not all voters will think that way.

I don't think they necessarily should have played more shows here, we did get a fair few, just perhaps sooner. Like after the first US leg, maybe they should have played some shows here whilst they did the rest of Europe, a few in each major city and then they could have done the three O2 gigs at Christmas. But they released an album, then just disappeared for 6 months.

The Brits votes are much the same as The Grammys or Oscars, members of the Brits voting panel, which will consist of music presenters, musicians, people in the industry etc, will have a form and will vote.

that's a good point. i often forget how much smaller the UK is than where i'm from :P. but yeah, i still think they should have gone to you guys sooner.

if the brits are like the grammys, then how come you can vote for them online and by text? you definitely can't do that with the grammys and the oscars.

Well I mean the awards not voted by public are done much in the same way.

For the awards not voted for by the public, 1000 musical experts are selected from all over the musical world who cast their vote.

The awards voted for by the public are voted for by the public.

I agree they forgot about the UK last year, apart from 3 weeks at the end of the year where they forgot about the South outside London & Wales, and for the start of the promotional machine. I think the reason why the stadium gigs haven't sold out is because of the price of the tickets, £50+ a ticket is too much in this current era.

oh ok, so SOME awards are publically voteable, some are not. that's a bit strange . thanks for clearing that up.

yes, if these awards were determined by experts in the field, then i'm still stunned coldplay didn't win a single thing. i mean jeez, their sales, popularity, and critical acclaim should mean they're reaping in the awards.

IIRC, Best Band, Best Live Act & Best Single are voted for by the public, the rest are voted for by the so-called experts, who prob thought they would be a rebel and fight against the machine and not vote for coldplay.

Take That managed to sell out like 15 with the same pricing though.

Fan bases are different I think.

If it's to do with pricing in this current era it shouldn't make any difference though surely, we're all in the same boat

All I can is: "Fix!!"

Fix You :P
