Every once in a while a topic comes along thats just so stupid, insignificant and pointless that it makes me violently ill.

 

Queen were a diverse, crazily talented band, with a genre defining and awe inspiring image. Coldplay lack all of this. The only thing decent about Coldplay is Chris Martin's voice, and he doesnt quite know how to do anything with it. I mean, its good to have an original voice, just like Freddie Mercury, but the difference is that Freddie Mercury knows simple little tricks with tones that he can change his voice a little bit to make some songs sound more definitive. Look at Mercury's voice in Under Pressure (Light, touching), and compare it with We Will Rock You (Eat you), now compare Martin's "Trouble" with God Put a Smile Upon Her Face, or God Put a Smile Upon her Face with Politik, or Politik with The Scientist. A big blur? I think so.

 

Talentwise, c'mon, Brian May vs Guy Berryman? I think Guy Berryman may actually be talented (As in, he can play decently hard stuff) but when it comes to creativity he may as be a Grade 2 guitar player. Freddie Mercury vs Chris Martin? Chris Martins Pop Piano playing wins no points with this Bananaman, Freddie Mercury on piano was brilliant, he was definately classicly trained on some level. Freddie didnt play guitar, and he didnt have to, that voice was something that would make you stop in your tracks, Martin can hold a note, no doubt, but he doesnt touch on levels Freddie Mercury stomped over.

 

Sorry for being an ass about it, but Queen just stomp all over Coldplay's head, and I dont even like Queen a whole lot.

well Queen are legends here we are simply stating (well in my opinion) that coldplay are an amazing band and we are not trying to compare them with any musical genius' :)

i totally agree with what you are saying but with coldplay they have a different style of music and have yet to finish their careers so they may surprise you some day :P

I'll always listen out for Coldplay, its only fair since I judge them so harshly that I actually listen to their music, but they'll have to completely turn around for me to like them. They're stuck in this sticky, trying to be interesting, hard to watch, hard to listen to, hard to breathe mode, and I cant see them ever escaping that to truely release some great artistic work.

 

I WASNT intending to put A Rush of Blood to the Head down, whenever I heard In My Place I didnt think it was good, but I heard the critics saying that its a great album and its much better than Parachutes (Which I hated, naturally) so I thought "What the hell! I'll give it a go!" and I hated it. Its very bad. Of course, I'll give their next CD a chance, and I give every new live song I download a chance, but time after time, Im always disapointed.

 

I'll wait for the new album. whenever it comes out, I wont die waiting thats for sure.
