I don't think it was for a long period of time. The story that I heard is that Chris was so upset about having kicked Will out, that he went over to Guy's apartment, got insanely drunk and wound up throwing up all night. Guy came home from a date, found him, knew that he had to put an end to it.. so the next day he talked Chris into getting Will back into the band

That really doesn't sound like anything Chris would have said in an interview? These things really makes you get to the fact that Coldplay are human beings to though :)

Alcoholic is a strong word; it's when you're dependent on alcohol and abuse it repeatedly.

 

I don't think you have to worry too much about Chris having had been an alcoholic.

I tried to find that article.. but I can't. I'm pretty sure that it was in the same article where they talk about Jonny being "friends" with an SNL writer, and then Chris talks about how his mother doesn't believe in sex before marriage... I could be wrong.. but I think that its that article. it's a really old interview.

Yeah, I've heard and read that several times.He isn't an alcoholic he just got very drunk that night.Chris convinced Will to get back in the band cause Chris realized he'd been a twat.

 

Chris in Q magazine:

"Things were going wrong in the studio and I told Will it was his fault. He'd be out of time once and I'd be telling him he was shit. It was all my fault. I though to myself 'you fucking twat.' I was so nervous of us fucking up our chance I'd become obsessed with whether we were a technically good band or not. I apologised but I felt I had to pay, so I got drunk"

Then Guy said Chris has not been drunk since.

 

 

so yeah...It's in several of their unofficial bio and I've read in a few articles as well.
