Darlene_Ihnfsa
Ok, so here goes a topic to can discuss. (May be it has been discussed before. If it fits better in the WoM section, mods feel free to move it there). Do you think that looks are related to people lifestyle and the other way round? As for instance if a person wears classic clothes or only suits, it means that that person is conservative and will only enjoy to listen only opera? or the opposite, as if a person wears a bit hippy-like clothes it means they like music like new age and are ecologic interested? I honestly think that one thing don't have relation with the other itself, but i notice that most people let themselves to get mixed with that, as for instance, when they listen some music styles they use to drink or smoke a lot. MK
In some cases they are related. Well, more than "some". That's my experience at least. It isn't really the whole suits and opera thing, but the resemblance is there.
WV Gal
In some ways, yes, I think looks and lifestyles go together but it really depends on the person. I know some conservative people who dress conservatively while others dress more loosely, and the same can be said of liberals. It all depends on the person and what kind of lifestyle and image they want to portrayed to the outside world.
Ahlem
well it depends of people and their attitude there are people who does as what you say, they listen to opera so they wear suits and classic clothes and reciprocally but i also think that there are people who listen to rock but wear normal clothes, i mean their clothes don't show that they listen to rock or something, that's my point of view as i listen only to rock but i do not only wear rock clothes,
Darlene_Ihnfsa
@ Tracylynn: i didn't meant to judge that for the political way.. but more for the music way... because music influence us too. i mean i don't see the point of it at all... if i listen some music style i don't think i have to wear like they do just for that, i find that pretty bad thing to do and as a lack of personality because then is just like copy cat other people. May be i judge for my experience, as along my life i've met a lot of copy cat people that, as soon they turn to be rap fans next week they turn to be hard rock fans and wear those typical clothes in both cases, i find it a big sign of lack of personality. another thing is that you are into those ideals and decide to wear and behave like that, but then my question is why to change our behaviour for that?, like smoke when we listen some bands and don't smoke when we don't listen to those bands?
mc_squared
Dressing a certain way to fit a music style is just plain daft IMO. It's just another example of showing off, and indicates a severe lack of individuality.;) If I ever went to an opera I'd wear jeans and a T-shirt just to wind all the "snooty brigade" up. Same goes for anyone who changes their music taste solely to be "fashionable". Starlight
This is a tough question. It can have an impact on lifestyle, but everyone's different and there are so many components to someone's being. It doesn't necessarily go hand in hand. I am a huge football fan, but could you tell when you see that I wear frilly dresses and bows? Do you imagine a crazy sports fan to be more "masculine?" It's all different with everyone.

I was just using conservatives and liberals as an example. Some people tend to dress to their lifestyle that happends to reflect their beliefs and such. I think the thing is people are looking for an identity and by dressing a certain or acting a certain way gives them that identity that they are searching for. Unfortunately, these people don't know themselves and that is why they are doing what they are doing. If they think they need to dress with pants hanging below their asses because that is the look then they will. If they feel that they need to smoke weed because it is associated with something they like (ex: if they like the Grateful Dead or rap) then they will. As psychologists will say, these folks don't have or know their identity and are looking for it. The ones who don't follow those trends know their identity. Matter-Eater Lad
I dress how I like but if I dressed for my lifestyle I'd probably dress more casual seeing as how I'm in college and don't have a career yet. But since I like fashion and care about how I look I dress very well and some people seem to think I own a boat.

strawberryfields
I agree, it depends on the person and the type of clothes, and the situation. But I dress in "indie" type clothes and every now and then I wear the latest fashions or whatever, but that doesn't reflect on my personality very much. I no longer think you're attractive. ;) I tend to dress far more conservatively than my music would indicate.
ricardo
uhm well I don't know, it depends on the person mostly, I don't dress like a hippie but I love new age and I'm into ecology.... however first impressions are very important, some of my friends that I met this year told me that when they first saw they thought I was arrogant

The ones who don't follow those trends know their identity. so right that. I dress the way i want to the way to go ;) I agree, it depends on the person and the type of clothes, and the situation. But I dress in "indie" type clothes and every now and then I wear the latest fashions or whatever, but that doesn't reflect on my personality very much. sure some situations mean you have to wear something in particular as that's the usual rule of it. I tend to dress far more conservatively than my music would indicate. you do that intentionately? :p however first impressions are very important, some of my friends that I met this year told me that when they first saw they thought I was arrogant see, that's where i wanted to get. i mean i hate it when that happen, i don't judge individuals by the way they dress, i judge them by the way they act and behave, that is when i already know them for some time. i find it so :freak: when people judge others just by their looks. but at the same time i don't see the piont in wear something in particular because you like some some musical genre more than other (like emo for instance).
