Music For A Restaurant

Featured Replies

ok, so my parents own a bar - restaurant and they're fed up of radio, so they want me to fill and iPod with suitable songs. they don't want coldplay nor radiohead (:bigcry:), so.. any suggestions?:)

well, it's got a good reputation. more meals than drinks, and it's a restaurant at lunchtime, when we serve great menus, quality food.

it's like a hybrid between a bar and a restaurant.

I highly suggest refraining from any pop radio, even good songs. Working as a host at a restaurant, we had sirius radio and I got so incredibly sick of bleeding heart ballads, snow patrol etc. heavy, emotional stull like that is the worst thing I could imagine for a restaurant atmosphere.

For italian restaurants, the most effective is still the cliche 'dean martin' greatest hits. However, a local italian pizza place here started playing a full Colbie Caillat album which is highly soothing, and I highly recommend. in that same breath, Norah Jones or Jack Johnson would work too.

A lot depends on the kind of restaurant though. It may work just as well to include some classical like Debussy or Gershin.

Faultline

The Beatles

The Raconteurs.

would they work?

are you crazy? Pop or Rock music for a restaurant?

I love radiohead, but if I had a restaurant I don't think my clients would be keen to listen to paranoid android while enjoying a drink, instead I'd get some lounge, jazz, bossa nova or chill out cds

+5000

Some instrumental stuff would probably be good as well, and like ricardo said some jazz or chill music.

How about artists like

The Album Leaf

Andrew Bird

Simon & Garfunkel

Also perhaps some Jazz artists like

Miles Davis

Joe Pass

Thelonious Monk

Vince Guaraldi

I mean is this restaurant more of a family-friendly/social restaurant, or is it a more expensive/classy one. I think that that would make a difference as to what kind of music you can/should play

thanks a lot!

i had the idea, quite similar to yours, but i just didn't have an idea of which albums or groups. i'll give a try to this ones :nice:

i think it will be helpful and interesting if they ask that on the restaurant to the clients, you know, if i ever own a bar i would do that, i will ask the clients to fill in a blackboard the music they'd like to listen, so i will play the ones the clients have asked most.

but if you don't want to do that, you can simply play the music that fits more with the kind of clients you have, you know it will depend if they are students than if they executives and all that.. is just a guess.

but if your parents want to play modern music, (that i guess is the case) why they don't play coldplay?

Yup Barry White is an excellent option, but like many others said, it depends on the kind of clients you have.
