The West Wing Appreciation Thread

Featured Replies

I just watched a rerun of it on Bravo and was hit by an unbeleivable wave of nostalgia; this show was amazing and I remember being incredibly sad when it was cancelled, even though I was very young, maybe a little too young to appreciate it all, during its running.

Anybody else like/liked this show? We could talk about it if you did. Come on, you know you wanna. :nice:

I love the West Wing! I watch the reruns on Bravo all of the time :) .... so what are we discussing favorite characters, story lines, episodes ??

Over here they're re-running the final season. At the weekend it was Election pt2 - where Leo dies. I cried all over again when Josh was at the hospital and CJ hugged the President ... I love Josh!

I've only ever watched season 1, but I love it :) I have my eye on the complete box set. Its been reduced to £50 from £200

Buy it now, Jen, you won't regret it!

It's strange watching it now, with the wave of optimism that Obama has brought with him... when Bush was in power I used to watch Wing and think "Why can't Bartlett be the real President?"

Fave eps??? Of the top of my Head...

- Celestial Navigation (some classic Josh moments there!)

- Any "big block of cheese day"

- the one where Donna becomes Canadian (forget the title)

- 25

Anyone else?

I was thinking the same thing, rewatching the episodes now. How much the whole Santos/ Vinnick race was so similar to Obama/McCain, seems so surreal

fav episodes

In the Shadow of Two Gunmen parts 1&2

The episode when Pres Bartlett comes clean about having MS and thinking he won't run for president again (not sure if it's the episode or Dire Straits playing at the end that makes it my fav :) )

20 hrs in America is a good one too

Oh my goodness so many to choose from

I like 25 too and the block of cheese ones are hilarious.

That's Two Cathedrals - with the flashback to young Bartlett and Mrs Landingham... the actress that played her was spot on!

So dramatic at the end when Barlett takes to the podium and Leo tells them all "Watch this..."

Good choice!

My favorite was Josshhhh

I need to watch it more. When I finally get off my lazy bum to go to the half-price-book-music exchange I am going to buy at least one season. :escaping:

Thanks I couldn't remember the title for the life of me. :D

When Bartlett starts talking to God in Latin in the Cathedral, that moment always gives me goose bumps.

I loved Josh too and CJ when she was Press Secretary, she had some good one liners, liked how they show her as inexperienced and how she grew into her job and commanded respect from the press and her colleagues.

I loved the dynamic between Sam, Toby, Josh and CJ, they were like siblings. Funny how I thought I'd miss Sam when he left, and I did at first but then Will kinda grew on me, but I was excited to see Sam come back for the final episodes. When he told Josh to pull his head out of his behind or else he does this job without him, such a classic Sam/Josh moment

I loved Will... all the struggles he had settling in with Toby, the "Robert Palmer girls" and that glass window he broke :laugh3:

Josh & CJ were my favourites though - Josh was so adorable, always with his foot in mouth.

Just got a flash to the one with the guy on Death Row (Take this sabbath day???) Josh hungover and wearing fishing gear while Donna dashes to the dry cleaners...

"You idiot... I'm Joey Lucas!" :laugh3:

Pants, double post!

Ok, I'll share another fave Josh moment:

Josh Lyman: Donna?

Donna Moss: What was in the envelope?

Josh: Your underwear.

Donna: What?

Josh: I'm holding your underwear in my hand right now. And the way I know it's your underwear is that your name is sewn in the back which, obviously, we'll spend some time talking about at a later date.

 that is one of my fave Josh moments too :laugh3:

oh and when they're discussing the precedent of a president commuting a death sentence

Mandy: who was the last president to commute a death sentence

Josh or Sam : Lincoln.

Mandy: Abraham?!

Josh: No! Burt Lincoln!!

classic

that is a great exchange between the two of them

As a matter of fact an episode is on right now, gotta go watch

Do tell me which one... whatever it was, sure it rocked. I can only think of two or three eps in the whole run that I really didn't like.

I love the Sorkin era best. It was so clever how he'd use Josh and Donna to explain a problem... the way each one of them would take a different side of the arguement - like Josh takes a 'phone message' for Donna from Europe in 1938 and they're calling about Hitler. so clever, yet entertaining at the same time

anyway, what ep did you watch?

  • 3 weeks later...

Wow this thread died quickly didn't it :(.... Well just thought I'd give it a bump just for shits and giggles :P

I ended up watching the episode "He Shall from Time to Time" when he passes out in the oval... one of my favorites, especially the end when the Sec of Agriculture gives him the Latin translated copy of The Constitution, just shows how good of friends Bartlett and Leo were...

Love that episode, especially when he starts telling the agriculture guy about the toilet in the residence.

I saw the first four eps of season 1 this weekend. It's ages since I've watched any really early ones - The Crackpots & These Women... what a classic!

Hey everyone, I'm Jen, and I love the West Wing! :nice:

I'm just re-discovering it, as I'm re-watching from the beginning with my hubby who never saw it. We're about half-way thru season 1. I'd forgotten how incredible the writing is and how much I  Josh Lyman!

It's basically a drama (with lots of comedy thrown in) about a sitting, rather liberal, US president and his staff. Excellent writing and acting all around. I just started re-watching the first season, and I'm surprised at how relevant a lot of the story lines still are.

Yay!!! another West Wing fan

Jen, nice to meet ya I'm Jenn :P... what episode are you up to now? Just finished "Let Bartlett be Bartlett" another fav and the next one when Josh tells the majority leader, 'you can take your agenda and shove it up your ass!!' Classic Josh, that and any scene w/ Donna is gonna be one worth quoting.

Let Bartlet Be Bartlet is a classic!

Another early fave of mine is Celestial Navigation :D

Oh yeah that's a great episode. Toby and Sam lost in Connecticut, following the light from the plane  , CJ and her 'woot canal' :laugh3::laugh3: that whole exchange between her and Josh is too much, I LMAO everytime....

bastard cable is out so not able to catch up on my WW at the moment, so Josh telling the guy to shove it up his ass is gonna have to wait

Josh trying to impose "some much needed discipline" in the Press Room is great too!

"You really want your one question to be that stupid?"

He's an idiot, but a lovable one...

Nice to meet you, Jenn! :P Wow, you guys are good with the titles of the eps... I had to look it up! Just finished The White House Pro-Am (where Bartlett has to appoint a new Fed chairman and Zoe cancels the date with Charlie at the club).

Haven't gotten to Let Bartlett Be Bartlett yet, but loved Celestial Navigation. I love how they balance out serious and poignant moments with lots of humor...
