There was an article that said they listened to Donna Summer for the new album.

I do believe that Brian Eno made them listen to her music along with other artists. I love Donna Summer and I love that song (though it does not make any sense. LOL) but I really am not hearing that big of a similarity between the two songs. Of course, that might be just me.

I could see how you said it sounded the same, but it's not a huge similarity.

Well, Jimmy Webb did write it in the '60s so that could explain it.

 

I think the cake and the rain is a reference to a relationship falling apart since the song seems to be about a relationship. There's one line in the song that hints at that so that is my take on it.

I don't really hear the connection between the songs.
