Because it could never be as bad as the atrocities committed by government.

 

Anyway, let's just say some spawn of Hitler pops up in an Anarchy and says "HAY GUISE LET'S KILL SUM JOOS". Who's going to go along with it? No one. That's the beauty of it. The only reason the German people listened to him was because he was in a position of authority.

You make valid arguments. Especially about what governments are capable of. Do you at least think that it is possible that an anarchy could fail? Or that people may "go along with the crowd" and kill those that they deem deserve it.

Everything's possible, but we've been giving democracy a shot for a long time now, and look what it's gotten us into. Two world wars, Vietnam, Korea, a holocaust, the Iraq War. Would any of those have happened if there weren't governments?

 

I think it's time we changed things up a bit and gave it a shot.

Agreed. However, as I have said before, this country will not go down that path in our lifetimes. Might need to start a new country somewhere else. People are so vehemently against anarchy here. I just can't see it happening.

Yes, everybody knows that the National Health System isn't perfect (too many managers, too much red-tape etc), but at least I know if I fall down the stairs and break my arm/leg and get rushed to hospital I wouldn't have to face a massive bill at the end of my stay.

But I think among intelligent people the dispute about whether Anarchy is good is typically centered around its utilitarian aspects. Would the weak really perish in anarchy? I don't think so. Am I a lover of disorder and chaos? Not at all, I love order, and I believe freedom begets ultimate order. Many people say that anarchy would work well "in theory", and of course that's what I'd say about government. But we've had plenty of government experiments in the past, and they rarely "work"... I'd love to see anarchy given a serious try.

Also, according to Matt Drudge the Democrats are planning on "going it alone" on the healthcare bill... whether that means they will include universal coverage or not, I don't know. Maybe the American people will do the prudent thing and swing back to the Republican side next time they're allowed to herd into their voting apparati. :rolleyes:

I have always been a social issue voter. Of course I want equal rights. That is why I support the democrats in elections. They at least are not as hateful or outwardly hateful as republicans have shown themselves to be. Your last line says the prudent thing to do would be to swing back and vote Republican. Are you kidding me. How in the world would republicans do any better at advancing the cause of gay marriage etc.? Maybe I am missing your point.

I agree with you that anarchy deserves a try but how can you be so sure that it would be fine. That the weak would not perish. This is a possibility at least. It's not like people are inherently that nice. At least from what I have seen.
