I don't think anybody is entitled to anything. The insurance does not pay bills in full as I just tried to explain. It doesn't matter. If I have car insurance, and it says I have to pay the first 500 dollars of every problem, I won't care what comes after that. As long as they pay for it. And if they raise my rates, I'll be mad at the insurance company and demand the government regulate them! The American system doesn't seem to work as a lot of poor people end up with poor quality or no healthcare. Are people dying on the streets en mass? I haven't seen it in America. You are arguing against the laws of supply and demand. Healthcare is like every other industry. It isn't a "system" to be regulated by the government. It is a collection of thousands of individuals, who all make rational decisions for themselves. Doctors will seek the greatest profit, patients will seek the lowest costs. There needn't be a middle-man. The theory that insurance needs to be widespread is flawed in that it implicates them in paying for the vast majority of medical expenses. When individuals must save their own money to see a doctor, they are more likely to shop for a lower price, which creates a market for doctors that don't charge as much. As I said above, we might also need a "foodcare system", whereby the government assures everyone free hamburgers. What is the difference?

You only pay a medicare (health care) levy if you earn over 50,000 a year. i believe it is like $500 + 1.5% of you taxable income. No one complains because we all know it helps the people of the country and if you have private health care then you usually earn enough money not to worry about the payment of the levy anyway.

EDIT: What I'm trying to get across to you, is that any sort of payment that is coerced (taxation) will result in a lower-quality product with higher costs. The government is no different from any other corporation - it is only a collection of individuals. Except the government is the only corporation that claims the "right" to steal from you, and the "right" to create monopolies. It is economically inefficient, and to claim it is "compassionate" is just repeating propaganda you've been taught in government-run schools.

August 16, 200916 yr Author Sally, explain this to me: What incentive do doctors and hospitals have to lower the costs of their services, if they can be 100% assured that all patients who enter their doorway will have their bills paid in-full by the insurance company? The only way costs come down is when doctors compete for patients. If there is a pool of patients that are incapable of paying high fees to visit a doctor (the poor), then does it make economic sense for the doctors to let them all suffer and perish? Or does it make more sense for the doctors to accept lower payment in order to get the customers? Because the insurance company will try and get the bill reduced :P

It doesn't help that governments is going broke and now wants to get their monies back by making a tax on breathing out. even if the car doesn't get used at all? I assume so, yes.
