August 22, 200916 yr First time being away from home. :uhoh: But I'm doing ok so far. I'm going to have to get used to sharing things though. :P Random thread, I know. Oh, but to give you some advice, if you don't mind (in no particular order): Don't share things you put in your mouth so you don't get the flu :sick2: Meal plans suck, their overpriced and make you fat :P Use the gym! fitness classes are fun (can't wait for Yoga, Tai chi, and Zumba) :D Wear flip-flops in the shower PJs (oversized shirt and sweatpants) are acceptable to go to class, at least in the first year  Buy books on Amazon, eBay, Craiglist, etc. Campus bookstore is a rip-off  Speaking of books, don't sell them all back. Keep those you know you'll need for reference in future classes (or those they want to buy back for $1 :dozey:) Campus events = free food and fun Apply to university scholarships, even if you don't think you'll get them Study abroad (I didn't do this, but I'm a foreigner anyway, yet friends who did LOVED the experience) Join student orgs, or better yet, those that related to you major or future career. Remember: quality matters over quantity Start research for papers early (unless you're those who write better under pressure. Gwah, I hate those people :dozey:) Do an internship, or two, or three. If you can get paid or get an stipend, that's even better. Even just for credit is worthwhile. If you plan to go to grad school, research experience is recommended. On-campus jobs are the best! It's convenient, flexible, and sometimes pay better than retail and less tiring than telemarketing (ugh) Yeah, that's all for now...
August 22, 200916 yr Tell me about it :dozey: I am working on my undergrad thesis, no fun :( It's not so much of the classes, it's just I am working at the same time. So I have like no time at all to just sit around.

I didn't want to risk getting a disease or foot fungus or anything. And I didn't listen to the whole, "Get an on-campus job." thing. I should have and now I am regretting it.
August 22, 200916 yr ^I was lucky to get an on-campus job in Summer 08 because I was in an student org. Our advisor just asked "who needs a job in the summer?" and only 2 of us replied. Compared to my job the previous summer, it was a walk in the park. Nowadays, on-campus jobs are for those with federal work-study. I mean, it's good for those who qualify, they need it. I have worked in the summers only, usually taking a class or two. Others tell me that I'm fortunate not to work in the semester, but I had to move with my parents and live frugally though. Well, being frugal is rather good now.
August 22, 200916 yr Like crap, with lots of chapters ahead for me to read all weekend. Exciting huh?
