mikamay
Theatre made me strongly dislike Shakespeare and iambic pentameter. Just sayin'.

Josh42
I actually enjoy reading/acting out Shakespeare. Some of his works are good, some are bad. I've read Midsummer, The Tempest, Romeo & Juliet, and one or two others... A Midsummer Night's Dream was awesome and I want to read King Lear. Tnspieler1012
I cheated growing up because we used the 'no fear shakespeare' books with modern translations. Looking back the old english really isn't that hard, but it was easier to understand. My favorites were Julius Caesar and The Merchant of Venice. Tnspieler1012
I once took a speech class as a kid and I chose to memorize and recite the famous monologue in that. I also saw Julius Caesar on stage in Stratford ftw.

mksh24
I hated Julius Caesar, maybe because my english teacher was so shitty. But I love Romeo and Juliet. I love the movie to its so good (the newer one)
Lyric
best thing ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHJdqCyJ_Os YouTube - ROMEO & JULIET-ZEFFIRELLI-1968-MERCUTIO'S DEATH I didn't like how Juliet was portrayed in this adaptation (her appearance wasn't fitting at all, in my opinion) and thought that some scenes were quite cheesy, but that scene is awesome. The acting really added to the characters. Mercutio was great.

I was thinking that as well. I thought that maybe it could have been handled a bit better, though, but ah well, I suppose that other things make up for it. Agreed on Mercutio. And props to you on the memorization. (:
Josh42
What's cheesy for you could have been really romantic to them. Perspectives on it change over time, just like a comedy from back then probably wouldn't be very funny to you.
Lyric
Yes, time period does make a big difference. (I was just referring to that one adaptation, in case I didn't make that clear.) One thing that annoys me very much is when people say, "omg they look so gay!" regarding the tights that the men wear. This is NOT how it was during that time period. Nobody thought that it implied homosexuality then. :\
flickahidalgo
Shakespeare is great. Favorites include Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Hamlet was waaaay better though.
