August 28, 200916 yr What about the government gives it the right to dictate morality? Just because 50%+1 of the population voted for a candidate means that that guy has the right to tell everyone else how to live their lives?
August 28, 200916 yr I'm actually totally chill though. Despite the fact that Coolsiege's views differ from my own, she's not getting angry or taking anything personally, and I respect that.

August 28, 200916 yr YouTube - Will Hatcher's: Crank Dat Homeless Man[/url] So relevant to the topic at hand.
August 28, 200916 yr So relevant to the topic at hand. If we legalize drugs everyone will be like the homeless man. DO YOU WANT THAT?! me too, i hate having to be all sneaky just to make bank, ya know? I always suspected:thinking:
August 28, 200916 yr I always suspected:thinking: of course, how else would i support my recreational drug habit?
August 28, 200916 yr Oh yea and by the way both of you should get your black asses on skype. I'm about to go to bed, I have to wake up early to work and by work I mean drive around and find the best priced hooker, its hard work but it pays off in the end. of course, how else would i support my recreational drug habit? There is no better way! Except selling drugs.

Thank you. :) I respect your opinions too, and I'm glad (and hope) that no one is getting angry or offended over this. Sorry Nick. To answer your question, I don't think I'd want what I love to become illegal. But as far as I know, I don't love anything that would have any reason to become illegal. I guess it really depends on the situation. Pot has always been illegal (as far as I know), so I don't think it's the same...

August 28, 200916 yr Pot was only made illegal somewhat recently. Just because something is illegal does not mean it should be, not long ago women could not vote, nor could anyone but white men.... There is always someone wanting to ban the things you like, if may be for religious or other reasons but if it can happen with one thing simply because people do not agree with it, it could just as easily happen to something you love. So in a way standing up for something you don't even like or agree with or at least not supporting its ban, you in turn help keep the things you like from possibly being banned in the future. Like I said before its always easy to be against something you don't like, but a time might come when it is something you like or love and you would be in the same situation. There is always someone out there wanting to ban religions, political groups, social activities and races, so my view is you have to stand up for all of them even if you don't agree with them so you nip it in the bud and they won't get to something I like or love. One day it may be drugs next it could be my political party, then my religion then my skin color, we must assure everyone gets equal treatment with what they want as long as no one else is hurt by it.
August 28, 200916 yr pretty sure it was made illegal for some stupid reason regarding hemp too... I think the Tobacco industry wanted it gone. I also read it was partially racist, they claimed weed made black men horny and more dangerous and caused them to lust after white women so they wanted it banned.
August 28, 200916 yr Author ceolsige, Portugal has legalized all drugs a while ago, and they don't have terrible social problems. Look it up! Pot has always been illegal (as far as I know), so I don't think it's the same... Nope, marijuana was made illegal by FDR. Nothing has "always" been illegal. Things are made illegal by the government. There was a time when cocaine was legal, and many housewives were addicted to it (in the late 1800s and early 1900s). As long as people are aware of the dangers of addictive drugs, they will not use them. I can get a cheap thrill from jumping into traffic - but as long as I'm aware of the danger of doing it, I won't do it. A law, a punishment, cannot alter my decisions. Laws are like spells in Harry Potter. Their existence doesn't change reality one iota.
August 28, 200916 yr Why was it banned in 1937? And did people even smoke it back then? Pot was only made illegal somewhat recently. Yeah, you make a great point. I just think using the drug issue to make that point is kind of... ironic or something. :freak: I still think drug abuse is horrible, and I wouldn't use them or want someone I love to use them, but to each his own, I guess. :\ Also, what kind of message would we be sending to children by legalizing it? That might be something to think about.
August 28, 200916 yr What kind of message are we sending now by making things illegal? Let someone else dictate your life instead of making your own choices and mistakes. I know all to well the danger of drugs abuse, trust me but making things illegal does nothing to stop that.
August 28, 200916 yr Author Also, what kind of message would we be sending to children by legalizing it? That might be something to think about. Taxation and war are both legal. And they are both celebrated! What sort of message does that send to children? "Theft is okay, as long as you're giving the stolen goods to the poor. And of course, you take a cut for yourself." "Vandalism and murder are okay, as long as you have a good reason." The problem is making a distinction between ends and means. In the case of drugs, the "end" we all seek is for nobody to be addicted. The "means" the government provides are arrest (forceful kidnapping) and imprisonment/fines (enslavement/theft). We ignore the truth of the means, because the ends appear noble. But the reality is both ends and means are a reshuffling of atoms, and both subject to ethical analysis.
August 28, 200916 yr Well, thanks for opening my mind a bit more. :nice: Even though legalizing drugs doesn't really sit well with me, I see that there are a lot of things to consider. And hey, if someone wants to ruin his life with drugs, why should I care?
August 28, 200916 yr I just want prostitution to be legal. haha *is tempted to quote on sig, but regrets*
