You can't compare drug addiction to RACE.

Okay, true. But at least they live in fear of being fined/imprisoned. ;) Okay, not really... but why legalize something that ruins lives and does no good to society? Sure, people are going to do it anyway, but... jeez, I don't know. I think I'll just be happy as long as it stays illegal. :smug:

Alcohol's legal and it's much worse for people's health...

I'm not comparing drug addiction to racism, I'm proving a point about your argument. There are always going to be things or groups you don't like but you have no right to say they shouldn't be legal. I don't like people who smoke pot, it annoys me but they have every right to, I have no right to tell them what they can and cannot do.

Just like I have no right telling a group I hate they have no right to exist legally simply because I do not like or agree with them.

Its a mindset that I'm attacking, the mindset of "I don't like it or agree with it, so it should be banned" and thats a two way street. You'd complain if something you liked or agreed with a lot was illegal. I don't like gangsters, should we outlaw rap music simple because I don't like most the people that listen to it?

Its that mindset that LEADS to religions or races being attacked by people who don't like or agree with them. Its one of the fundamental flaws in the human race, trying to dictate others lives on matters that do no harm your life or personal freedoms.

I could dissect Islam or Christianity or any race and make a claim they hurt society, should it too be illegal based upon my person views?

I think I'll just be happy as long as it stays illegal.

Yes, your happiness and liberty above others....You would be singing a different tune if it was something that mattered in your life. People are so self centered and narrow minded.

NOTE* I hate weed and think its a stupid drug, but I think my personal opinions have no right dictating other peoples live as long as they do not hurt my life or liberty.

Why should I care what you think? You're a bitch.

It's not your decision. I've actually seen a lot of people whose lives are better because they smoke. If you get a suicidal teen on weed, he's a lot less likely to kill himself. Sure, it's not for everyone. I keep myself clean for my own personal reasons, but I have no right to judge others for their decision to do it.

I'm pro legalizing drugs. I find stupid to consume something to be satisfied or happy, but it's each one's choice.

Plus the fact that the only reason drug cartels are in power is because the drugs are illegal. Al Capone only came to power because alcohol was illegal, look how that turned out.

You both make good points. But why are you putting drug addicts in some protected group? What they're doing is illegal, and they never should have been doing it in the first place.

Also, I'm not the one who "banned" marijuana. It was never up to me in the first place. The point is, it IS illegal, and I agree that it should be. If the government decides to legalize it, fine. I can't do anything about it.

Oh, and lets eliminate speed limits, because people are going to speed anyways!

So wait, you're saying legality = morality? Ok so by that logic, Harriet Tubman should have been thrown in jail, right? What she was doing was against this oh so Holy and revered law you speak of.

Does anyone else think it's interesting the government needed an amendment added to the constitution (18th) to ban alcohol, but they never passed an amendment to ban marijuana?

Laws don't make sense... in general.

(Yea I ripped off your line about how they don't work :P)

No legality doesn't equal morality. And I don't think the law is "holy" AT ALL. But we do have laws and we are expected to follow them.

Once again, you can't really compare slavery to drug addiction. Obviously I don't agree that Harriet Tubman should have been thrown in jail. There's a big difference between freeing people from slavery and letting drug addicts have their way.

Yes, I know the point you're trying to make, and it's a good one, but I still believe that the government is right about this.

I love you too bro.

We put billions in the hands of the worst people in the world, and fund their illegal activities while wasting billions trying to stop what cannot be stopped. We might as well spend a trillion on stopping the sun from shining! Its a wasted effort.

Oh, and lets eliminate speed limits, because people are going to speed anyways!

The Autobahn is VERY safe actually...:laugh3:

Were not comparing slavery to drug addiction but your mindset of enforcing YOUR personal beliefs on others.

Once people stop trying to control others based upon THEIR personal beliefs, the world will be a better place. You'd hate it if I made it illegal for you to talk, so how is it any different then you forcing your views upon others?

Would you support what you love the most being illegal?

You have to open your mind and have equality, people want what they want and don't care about others. As long as no one is physically harming you or taking away your liberties its hypocritical to want something outlawed, because if it was something you liked you wouldn't want it outlawed.

And its that same mindset the leads to further problems, as long as it does not effect you, you do not care. But before you know it, it WILL be something you like and no one will be around to defend it because you did not have an open mind to defend their personal choice.

Our basic belief is that as long as you're the only person being affected by it, no one else has the right to stop you from doing it. Whether it's drugs, prostitution, or religious practices, no one has the right to stop you from doing what you want to do.

Okay, look, I'm not the one keeping people from doing drugs, and I'm not enforcing my personal beliefs on others. If it becomes legal, I would not and could not force people to stop. I'm just saying that it currently IS illegal and I don't want it to become legal. The only good reason for it to be legal, I guess, is for economical reasons. Should we also legalize polygamy and dog fighting because it makes people happy? I'm sorry, but there has to be boundaries.

There are laws in place that everyone can agree or disagree with, but that's not going to change anything.

Just curious, but do you think cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, etc. should also be legalized?

What about polygamy is hurting people? Just curious.

Dogfighting IS hurting innocent creatures, so that's totally different.

Yes.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's a good idea in theory, but I don't think that would work in our society.

Yes.

I don't think polygamy hurts other people. But I now realize that anything that's not moral is okay in your book as long as nobody else is hurt. It's perfectly fine that you think that, I just disagree with that idea. :)

Oh no don't legalize drugs the world would be tougher no please no!

God damn it, there are lots of drug addicts, and the problem is not if its legal or not. Besides Mexico is the one who's suffering this, it's unavoidable because of geography, this stupid war against crime and what we get is that the most violent city in the world is Ciudad Juárez, that Chihuahua, one of the states, it's more dangerous than almost any other country in the world, in fact there have been more executions this year in Mexico than in Irak.

So what's the point of banning them? They are still consumed, everyone is free to do what they want, if they want to get high and gradually loosing their life, well it's their proble, legal or not I will never consume, that's the case of millions, as other millions legal or not will consume, like it's happening now

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's a good idea in theory, but I don't think that would work in our society.

What part of not telling others how to live their lives wouldn't work in our society?

Agreed Ricardo. Seriously who's going to go out one day and be like "OMG HEROIN IS LEGAL NOW I GOTTA GET SOME!!!"?

It's not so much "telling others how to live" as it is keeping people from doing unlawful things... there has to be boundaries somewhere!

But hey, if you want your prostitutes, Nevada's waiting for you; and if you want to smoke pot legally, head over to California.

You make a very good point. :\
