Her parents do have the right to monitor her internet use, but I do see it as a bit overprotective to allow IMs and email but not forums. I don't really see the difference but maybe they don't really understand how the internet works. I remember being that age and my dad would assume that every window I had open, IM, forum, what have you, was a "chat room." "WHO ARE YOU CHATTING WITH IN ALL THOSE CHAT ROOMS?" he'd say. But nonetheless he let me spend an ungodly amount of time online.

I'm also around that age.. well I was 7 years ago :uhoh: but was also allowed to do everything I wanted but yeah in that time it was different.. computers are so much changed lately and every big mistake online can destroy your whole life(there are alot of stories about it online) so I kinda know why her parants are overprotective but still...

Not necessarily. I have a Myst-fan chat room I've been going to since 2004. I've even met most of the chatters there in person, and dated one. ;) They're like the group of friends I can take with me no matter where I move or where I go.

 

But yeah, if you go to Yahoo or something and click on general chat... all sorts of weirdos. :laugh3: I can't "do" that kind of chatting any more but I loved it at 15.
