Best U2 Album

Featured Replies

Oh and I also think October is harshly criticised by some U2 fans. There are some lovely little gems on that one like Gloria, Tommorow, October and Rejoice. In fact October should be brought back into the set list behind New Years Day.

I do understand the criticism of October. I say that because it is the only u2 album that I don't love. But I have friends who really like it. So to each their own.

I find that Zooropa and Pop are extremely overlooked albums. I haven't listened to too much early U2 though. Mostly Unforgettable Fire to present

I agree 100%. I think Zooropa and Pop are hugely under rated albums, and U2 never got the credit they deserve for being so innovative. Instead, they got grief for trying to go outside the box and explore new sounds.

Then when U2 came back to the big arena rockers that everyone wanted with ATYCLB and HTDAAB, which are both an amazing collection of songs, they get criticized for a sound that is safe and too similar to stuff they've done in the past. They couldn't win. Do you want them to be innovative or produce U2ish sounding songs? Either way they went, they received criticism.

Oh it pisses me off that U2 never get the praise for being so innovative. REALLY pisses me off. They covered the ground and after the 90s they should have accepted great tunes like Beautiful Day, Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of, City Of Blinding Lights as a return to them making great hits.

I definitely like Zooropa better than Pop. While in my personal bottom half of U2 album rankings, Zooropa was still an acceptable departure from the huge rock anthems of Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. Heck, "Stay (Faraway, So Close)" is probably one of my top 10 songs by U2. Innovation felt like something U2 needed to do, even if some fans were divided by it. In a way, I think No Line on the Horizon has fallen victim to some of the same criticism.

I'm just not a fan of Pop, however. I like "Staring at the Sun" and "If God Will Send His Angels" and...that's about it. The album seemed like a sign that U2's innovation had maybe strayed a bit too far (which was likewise reversed by ATYCLB).

The Joshua Tree has got to be the best in my perspective. It just does so much.

Pop and Zooropa are wonderful records.

I can't put my vote in yet.

I don't have a stand out favorite U2 record because every single one brings something new and different, which is why i love U2, they are so unique with their records.

No Line has captured me since it's release, but I have yet to name a favorite.

I might have to say Achtung... :)

For me it's all that you can't leave behind. that's the album I've grown up on, the one that we'd listen to every time we got in the car for every trip up to the mountains. All of those songs make me so happy, but Achtung definitely is great too. You know an album's awesome when 18 years later, you still hear the songs played on radio stations that classify themselves as "new alternative rock"

i cant choose between The Joshua Tree and All That You Can't Leave Behind, even if they're very different: TJT because it's simply a masterpiece and ATYCLB cause in my opinion it's the best U2 album of the latest years

I don't care what people say, but listening to Th Unforgettable Fire remastered, is enough to turn this poll around I think! IT IS STUNNING!

^I looked for it at HMV the other day but couldn't find it. :(

So is it quite a bit better than the original edition?

Well for me, it's the best remastered of the lot by and SOME distance. It's just seems much more polished and vibrant to listen to. The bonus cd is fantastic so I would advise you to get the one with the bonus cd.

Joshua Tree, but I also love All That You Can't Leave Behind, because that album converted me into a fan :)
