I made a short music video - can I get some constructive criticism?

Featured Replies

I'll be honest when I say that I really liked it but it felt like the piano melody is too simple :)

Two days is a small amount for a song to develop itself. Music is not a race :)

It's a great start though, keep working at it!

Sorry for digging up this old thread :P

If anyone is interested, I've set up an account at Overplay.com where I plan to upload all my music & videos from now on! (www.overplay.com/semyingle)

Right now I only have my newest song up there which is called Catastrophe, a fast-tempo 7 minute instrumental which is a little different from my previous music. I noticed that it's already been reviewed by someone who had this to say about it: "Catastrophe is a great track, it captured my attention for the whole 7 minutes and didn’t let go."

If you like the song and would like to be the first to hear upcoming new material please register and become a fan! It beats having to dig up this thread once every few months :P

I will be uploading some older tracks and 2 videos over the course of the day so I can hopefully make the page more substantial and interesting :nice:

Anyway, thanks for listening! As always, any feedback and criticism is very welcome

I didn't see your video earlier ^^

But it's brilliant, the music, the kinds of instruments. Video is really good, I like it very much. It's simple but awesome.

I just listened to 'rain'

I like it, but I think it could use a (womans) voice :nice:

September Dawn was indeed a very good video, and I want to point that out ahead of everything else.

Unfortunately, I have a few nit-picks.

The intro organ bells were a little too strong and crisp, just to the point of an initial corruption of the whole song in my mind.

It did, however, pull out quickly into quite an excellent display of cinematography in harmony with music. And yet midway into the song I feel that there could be a short, passionate story, something to capture the dramatic tones that are presented with the camera work and the melody.

And finally, if the video is viewed as itself once again, I feel that there should be something linear as far as the pictures are concerned. I honestly had trouble understanding what was happening.

Other than that, you have done what most, including myself, could never do. I congratulate you.
