Shut the fuck up. Do you realize that before iTunes and all these other MP3 sites, ALL songs you ever bought were album-only? You actually had to (gasp) go out and buy a band's album and listen to it. Crazy right?

 

iTunes allows you more freedom in what you buy and listen to by making over 90% of their inventory available one file at a time, so don't fucking mouth off every time one little song you want is not available that way. Go cry to your parents who bought vinyl albums and see if they give a shit.

THIS too. If I want a song and I don't like the artist enough to pay, I'll record it off somewhere else, namely Rhapsody, for free.

If there was a part of my brain missing and I didnt care about spending money, and I go on iTunes and be on the minority side of the market and I actually give money to the artist for their content, I should be able to buy whatever the fuck I want.

 

This crap about how it used to be and how my parents used to buy vinyls is irrelevant bull, for whatever reason it used to be, it doesn't need to be like that now. If anything its a kick in the teeth to those who do the decent (And stupid) thing of actually purchasing legitimately and legally.

It doesn't matter, thats an issue for the entire music industry, not the consumer who just wants content and gets treated like shit.

 

We just want to purchase a fucking song without getting entangled in politics about how money is being spread around the industry. Its ridiculous that even when you are legitimate and buy legally, your options are cut down, I'd feel pissed off.

People still should not be stealing all their music from sites.

Your morals of buying songs when you have respect for the artist (In a donation style) is very rare, it makes sense, but the reality of it is most people are either thiefs or consumers. If they are going to download bunches of songs (Like most do) they'll do it on one website, instead of switching back and forth between pay and filesharing (Unless theyre desperate for a song not available on fileshare), thats the reality of it regardless of what people should do.

 

But that doesn't matter anyway. In the shoes of someone who pays for their music, you feel like you're doing exactly what the music industry asks, you are paying for their content, when it seems like all else around you uses filesharing (I dont think I know one single person who purchases songs online), you'd want a freaking medal.

 

So youre doing the right thing, for the good of the industry, and what do iTunes/the artist expect? Pay more. Pay more for songs you might not want. Its bullshit.

 

Its like giving to a charity, you give your £5 at the end of every month, and what do you get, a thank you? No, you get more letters through the door, more emails, cold-calling, telling you to give £10 a month, when theres a hell of a lot of people who wouldn't think twice about even setting up a standing order in the first place, and never get that hassle.

 

That's as clear as I can make it.

I don't think the idea of donating to artists is so rare, both myself and a lot of my friends will go out and buy CDs of an artist if they can be found easily and we like them enough.

 

Although most of us get them secondhand coz they are so damn expensive... which defeats the point a little, doesn't it?

That makes sense too, but I don't see it as a charity. I buy the songs from the artists I respect and who I know aren't global stars with trillions of dollars. I buy because as an aspiring musician, I would feel guilty listening to the music I didn't pay for. I don't buy for the music industry, I buy to support the artist. And even though they get little of that money, it's better than nothing. It's the only way smaller bands can keep going.

This whole scenario is why I prefer to actually buy the CDs, when I can. That, and I like having hard copies I can re-rip onto a computer, should the computer crash.
