One Week Left to Live... (A Random Monday Poll)

If you were suddenly told that you only had a week or two left to live and that treatment was an option, but there was only a 20% chance of it working what would you do?

If your final days on earth were probably going to be incapacitated and in agony if you went for that 20% hope would you still try for it? Or would you accept your fate and try to find a way to live your final days as best you could?

It's a frequent theme in movies, but how would it play out in your life?

...Apologies if someone's done this one already.

As early as a year ago I'd pick the adventure or time with friends and family, but really, Id go for the treatment. I guess its thinking about friends or relatives who've gone through horrendous times in and out of hospital to preserve their life, for them and the people around them, without complaining or focussing on the negative. Its inspiring.

If it was a 20% chance, without a doubt Id go with it. 10% or 5% and I would have to think about whether its even worth the risk, but even then I would probably go forward with treatment.

Even if its your last week on earth, its still just a week. If I spent that last week doing selfish things, I'd feel pretty guilty, when I possibly could have saved myself.

As well as that, this whole idea of having so long to live is quite a daunting and pressuring chore if anything, you have a certain amount of time to do every thing youve ever possibly wanted to do! Such pressure. Like, what if you were told that right now, would you instantly jump out of your seat, run away from the computer, and go to the beach to finally get those kite surfing lessons youve been putting off?

I don't see the poll (you are probably still making it) but I would say I would still go on for the 20%. Life it's only over when you stop breathing & I can't leave without finding the purpose or the meaning so therefore I can't give up whatever life brings. But if I ever come to depend on a machine and I can't move or do anything myself (like in a coma) I would like to have it unplug if I shall still breathe then I'll breathe without it until I either get better or get to my end.

There's so many sad people that give up on themselves or think they are not useful or they don't have what they think they should have and just give up.... Life is a do or die but we somehow become afraid or things don't work out the way we would have liked but this is where you are at so make the best of it. Don't get stuck on being the victim & darkness...living and coming out of it it's hard.

I was thinking about this yesterday,

sounds a tad morbid really?

but i had a dream that i was told i had only a few weeks to live.

Though in my dream, my doctor never gave me the option of treatment.

Fucking shit doctor!

Anyways, I'd just spend the last few weeks with my friends and family.

Just hanging around, singing songs, surfing, joking and making "vlogs" for youtube

which rarely see the light of day. It's all good. :D

...except for the fact i would be dying. D:

I'd go for the treatment. I have a feeling that a majority of people will choose to go without it so they can blow off their last chance to probably survive to go skydiving and do things they haven't done before, but IMO that's really unnecessary. I'd still have that feeling of guilt that I haven't done much with my life no matter what 'adventures' I go to. As long as my family and friends would be in that hospital with me I'd be happy. 20% is not a guarantee I will live but it is much better than nothing.

that a very good point!! i was only really thinking about my self not anyone else...

i think this is the best answer i have ever seen you give! most of the time i don't agree with you but i do here i don't know what my answer would be now....

Well, that would mean there's an 80% chance I wasted the last week of my life in a Hospital Room when I could have been saying Goodbyes to friends and Family.

There are so many things I've always wanted to do in life, and I don't want to miss them.

I also would rather get up and say goodbye to all my friends and Family rather than saying goodbye to them in a miserable state in a hospital room.

Well, like I said in my post, my view on its changed in the past year. Getting into adulthood, a week feels like a very short amount of time, when you could have the rest of your life.

I dont agree with Dee who said most people would probably go for the adventure/family option (Even though she wouldnt go for it herself). I think a lot of people who think they'd want to go with that, when it actually comes down to it, and they have to tell their family and everyone around them that theres a 1 in 5 chance of them surviving versus a 0 chance but skydiving lessons, everyone would make them see sense if they couldnt see it themselves.

I'd kill myself.

Hahahaha

Oh, you were, serious?

Without sounding malicious, logically, wouldnt you just live out the rest of your week like your living your out the rest of your life right now, in other words why dont you kill yourself?

Considering that it's 90% sure that I'll be alone in the future, I don't want to be in agony + lonely.

I'd just do that.

Life is a little bit more bearable (to me) if my lifespan hasn't been cut to one week.

I wouldn't even tell anyone 'cause it would be too hard for me so I would just let them figure it out... :surprised:

You need more hobbies or possible hobbies.

If I didnt have the treatment option, there would be a long list of things to do after seeing all of my family and good friends. And then Id probably be doing those things with them.

"Run away on one last adventure

Stay home and live out your time with family, friends, parties, and your favorite things"

Those should pretty much be the same thing. Even if you needed to get to your last adventure you'd want to bring family and friends, or at least make time before the end of the week to see them.

Don't worry, in some years, I won't have time for myself

That's the only good thing about my future :mean:

OR

We could not talk about waffles and kittehs and also not talk about dying in a week and spending days in agony.

Did the title not make it pretty clear what this topic is about?

Its just a question, not depressing at all, unless your a pussy.
