IT MADE MY DAY :heart:

I'm soooo glad that you liked it :hug: Here is the tracklisting (and a few comments about it :P)

1 - Where Damage Isn't Already Done;

The Radio Dept.

Lesser Matters (2003)

I love the guitar riff of this song so much, that's what called my attention when I listened to it for the first time :guitarist:... The Radio Dept. is a Swedish indie pop/ shoegaze band, very underrated in my opinion!

2 - Looks Just Like The Sun;

Broken Social Scene

You Forgot It In People (2003)

Broken Social Scene is a Canadian group, and this is one of my favorite songs from You Forgot It In people. I'm glad to see this is one of your favorite tracks! And I agree with you, the extreme ending is awesome :stunned:

3 - Glass;

Bat For Lashes

Two Suns (2009)

hahaha, this one was easy for you :P :heart: I love it.

4 - Glimmer;

Aqualung

Memory Man (2007)

Matt Hales aka Aqualung is a british singer and a great songwiter, I love his lyrics... Glimmer is one of my favorite tracks from Memory Man, a very beutiful song.. I'm happy to see that you liked it :nice:

5 – I Sing I Swim;

Seabear

The Ghost That Carried Us Away (2007)

Hahahahah, that's ok, it's icelandic! :lol:

6 – Honey And the Moon;

Joseph Arthur

Redemption's Son (2002)

7- See You Again;

The Cripple And The Tramp

Don't Change For Anybody, I Won't Change For You EP (2010)

8 - If You Would Come Back Home;

William Fitzsimmons

The Sparrow And The Crow (2009)

Hahaha, this is one of my fav songs of this mixtape :P Oh, but that's ok, no problem :hug:

9 - I Don't Know What I Can Save You From;

Kings Of Convenience

Quiet Is The New Loud (2001)

Aww... Kings of Convenience is a duo from Norway that reminds me a lot of Brazilian Popular Music... So beautiful... :)

10- The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming;

Club 8

The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Dreaming (2007)

A duo from Sweden (again, I love Sweden). Karolina sings like an angel.

11 - Day Too Soon;

Sia

Some People Have Real Problems (2008)

Sia is an australian singer... She's also from the band Zero 7 :)

12 – Clean;

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson

Break Up (2009)

Ok, when my sister bought this cd I was like "ugh, I can't believe it", I confess :shame: Such a shame. This CD has some great tracks... Even though I'm not a big fan of Scarlett's voice, she sings pretty well in this one that is possibly the best track of Break Up... Simply great :) It's special.

13 – French Navy;

Camera Obscura

My Maudlin Career (2009)

Awww so you liked this one :dance: I agree with your description, indeed I fell quite the same! :hug: Trycianne is awesome, love her voice... Great band!

I'm so happy now! :hug:

Spent a week in a dusty library...:rolleyes:

Yeah!:wideeyed:

TRACKLIST ALERT relevant to SWALLOWED SEAMAN and VITAAMINE!!!

I am totally confused, because I made this tape for Mayasong and now I found out, that I received two brilliant reviews from you guys! Thanks so much for the praise! I am totally thrilled that both of you like my mix!!! This makes me want to listen to yours instantly, because I feel we absolutely like the same stuff!

So here we go:

Track 1

Expatriate - "The Spaces Between": This is a band I have only just recently discovered. They have had a bit of success in Australia and are now based in Berlin to try and conquer the European market. Their album "In The Midst Of This" is great stuff and they can rock a crowd, I can tell from front row experience

Track 2

Mute Math - "Noticed": Found their track "Chaos" on a Virgin Recommends Sampler, which appealed very much to the chaotic soul inside of me, got their album "Mute Math" and loved it ever since. Other than that I know nothing about this US band.

Track 3

Betchadupa - "My Army Of Birds And Gulls": So glad you like it! This is a young band from New Zealand which sadly no longer exists, mainly because their lead singer Liam Finn has gained himself quite a name as a solo artist now. It's in his genes. His dad is Neil Finn of Crowded House.

Track 4

Bic Runga - "Suddenly Strange": Another New Zealand artist. This lady is superb, on record and live. She's huge down under, sadly hardly anybody knows her elsewhere. This is from her brilliant debut album "Drive".

Track 5

Cherry Ghost - "People Help The People": A band from Bolton, England who released a fantastic sounding album called "Thirst In Romance", to critical acclaim I might add, went on tour supporting Crowded House, climbed the UK charts and were consequently dropped by EMI shortly after. Now, who's surprised that EMI's going down the dumper?

Track 6

Sean Lennon - "Dead Meat": Wow! Vitaamine knew instantly that this is Sean. Funny thing, like Swallowed Seamon I was put off by his cartoon voice at first, but it grew on me and now I absolutely love this track. I have yet to discover more of his stuff, but from what I have heard so far, he is very arty-farty, fluent in French and maybe even Japanese, which I like a lot, and there is absolutely no need to hide in the shadow of his big daddy John.

Track 7

Brett Anderson - "Chinese Whispers": Swallowed Seaman may remember his voice, because he used to be the lead singer of the British band Suede (or the London Suede in the US). Since Suede split up, Brett has conquered his drug addiction and released three brilliant solo albums. I saw him live only last month and the whole place was stunned by his super emotional performance.

Track 8

Jennifer Lopez - "Me haces falta": To tell you the truth, Swallowed Seaman, I didn't know you were a Spanish student, but I wanted to show my mixtape partner that there was more to Latin music than Ricky or Enrique. The funny bit is that this atypical song is by the ultimate Latina herself. I never cared too much for Jay Lo, the recording artist (I like her acting), until the strangest thing happened to me. I was in New York, midnight shopping at Tower Records, when suddenly I felt something staring at me from one of the shelves. It was Jay Lo's first Spanish album "Como ama una mujer", produced by Marc Anthony. I don't know what it was, but the second I saw it I needed it. She didn't disappoint me. Este disco es super fantastico! And I recommend both of you get it! Yes, Vitaamine, it’s the one with “Que hiciste” on it!

Track 9

Duran Duran - "Boxful Of Honey": This is my favourite band of all time and thus they needed to be on this tape. It's from their last album "Red Carpet Massacre" and when I told the lead singer Simon Le Bon I absolutely loved this track, he asked me whether I knew what "A Boxful Of Honey" really meant. Well, it kind of corresponds to the Swallowed Seaman’s username. :wink3:

Track 10

Finn Brothers - "Only Talking Sense": Oh no! That Swallowed Seaman considers this skippable is making my heart sink. I so love this track and consider it a total masterpiece! I’m so relieved that at least Vitaamine liked it instantly. It's by Neil and Tim Finn of Crowded House/Split Enz (lots of Kiwis on this tape.) As someone on youtube put it: Fear, honesty, communication and bravery. What more could you want from a song?

Track 11

Our Lady Peace - "Not Enough": Spot on, Swallowed Seaman! I discovered them on vacation in Canada and although they are not very popular in Germany, I managed to see them live in my hometown three times. This song speaks to me, because I can play it loud when I feel unworthy or depressed, and suddenly all evil is washed away.

Track 12

Nick Wood - "Beat Of My Heart": An Englishman living in Tokyo who very successfully writes music for Japanese TV commercials. This song was penned by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, and was originally recorded by Japanese artist Norico, who sings on the chorus of this version.

Track 13

Phoenix - "One Time Too Many": Ha, it’s very interesting that Vitaamine, altough being French, doesn’t know this song. I always thought you don’t get to hear anything but French music in France. ;-) This band from Versailles sort of lived a low life existence in my conscience too, until I recently met them at the O2 store in Cologne where they played a super inpromptu acoustic set. Loved their scarce arrangements and the French accent of singer Thomas Mars. They are also super nice! This track can be found on their album "It's Never Been Like That", but this version was taken from a German Unplugged sampler recorded in Hamburg in November 2009.

Track 14

Benjamin Biolay - "Los Angeles": Some say he is the new Serge Gainsbourg, I say “WHO is Serge Gainsbourg?” I think he is THE top guy of the French pop scene. All of his albums are great and whenever he writes for other people or produces them, it is great too. This track is of his first album "Rose Kennedy". I just hope he quits smoking one day, because going to his shows you smell like a bar afterwards.

Track 15

Jochen Distelmeyer - "Bleiben oder gehen": I had to include a track in my native language, German, and the guy with the unpronounceable first name is probably the most intellectual pop singer we've got. He used to front the band Blumfeld and his first solo album "Heavy" has just been released. It's full of very brilliant pop gems and not heavy at all. Why he picked an English title I don't know. His album is entirely in German and as far as I know all of the Blumfeld albums are in German as well. Mind you, listening to these songs is a good way to learn German. I don’t speak French yet, but I will once I have finished with all of the French albums in my collection…

Track 16

John Taylor - "Fields Of Eden": So happy you like it. John Taylor is my personal super hero. He's the very handsome bass guitarist of Duran Duran, who suffered a bit of a crisis in the mid-90s due to ill marriage and artistic boredom, and as a result went into rehab, left the band, got divorced, released a couple of solo albums, got filthy rich by second marriage (to Juicy Couture founder) and returned to the band. This is an epic track about how this current resident of Los Angeles misses the fields of his native England. I'm not sure, if he can sing, but he definitely knows how to write a good tune.

Track 17

Yoav - "Beautiful Lie": Originally from South Africa, Yoav spends most of his time couch surfing between Montreal, London, Johannesburg and Moscow, where he performs the occasional live show. Rather interestingly, what you hear on this track is just him and his guitar. He won't use any other instruments, neither on his album "Charmed & Strange", nor when he plays live. He's a man with a guitar and a loop machine. Absolutely fascinating to watch! I saw him opening for Liam Finn here in Cologne and was instantly persuaded to buy his album.

Track 18

Bunbury - "Hay muy poca gente": I love this track! It's Enrique Bunbury, the singer of Spanish rock giants Héroes del Silencio taken from his most recent solo album "Hellville de luxe". Vitaamine doesn’t like his voice, but Swallowed Seamon should definitely check out the first album of Héroes del Silencio called “Senderos de traición.

Track 19.

Gavin Rossdale - "Forever May You Run": I love his voice too! When I compiled this tape, I had a hard time deciding where to put this track. Initially this was the intro of the tape, but I shuffled it further to the back step by step. The only thing I knew was that it wasn't going to be dropped.

Track 20

Wilfred LeBouthillier - "L'odyssée": Wow! This is indeed an epic track. But the guy's name is epic too, don't you think? I usually don't give a hoop about casting shows, but this one time I had to give in. Wilfred was the winner of the Quebec(oise) casting show "Star Académie” in 2003. This 25-year-old had made a living as a lobster fisherman in New Brunswick, until he stunned everyone with his intense vocal performances of classic French and international tunes. He will probably never be known in the US, because I don't think he will ever sing in English, but he will soon conquer la France. Or so I hope.

Maybe we could make a list of people whose tape hasn't been reviewed yet? If there are others who like to listen to a mix tape, they can choose one or ours?

My name is on that list...

That's a great idea.

The guy who got mine hasn't reviewed it yet, and the one who made the one I reviewed hasn't told me what he thought about my review or anything. But I got the tracklist from The Escapist.

I guess I was kind of unlucky with this :cry: (even though I got a good tape..)

Featuring Cesc Fabregas on vocals.

Heee, you know Arsenal? :cheesy:

Do you still have the links to download your tape? Feel free to send them to me, and I'll write a review! I love to discover new music :)

So here is the review of the mixtape I received, I choose to rank the song from the one I like the most to the one I like the less (and sorry if my English isn't correct!).

And I don't get all the lyrics (I have to listent to it a lot of time to understand the general story or so and I need to read the lyrics to really get all the song!), so I'm sorry if the lyrics are an important point of your mixtape!

:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:: 04. Weird voices at the beginning and the end, it makes me laugh! I guess it's a folk/alternative style! A lot of instruments! Makes you want to dance and sing along: “We’re catching bullets in our teeth, na na na na na”! My favourite :happy:

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 13. I have already heard this song before, maybe an add on tv, with the whistles at the beginning and the end! There are a man and a female voice! There is clapping hands, "yukulélé", violin, some flute and others instruments! Folk/alternative style.

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 01. The melody seems familiar to me but I can’t remember where I heard this song! The female voice is pleasant and I love the guitar sound/effect at the end (but it’s also there at certain places all along the song)! Folk/alternative style.

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 06. Live song with trumpet and others instruments plus a choir! Is it maybe Beirut? Or a jazzman? Makes me want to listen to the live cd :nice:

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 12. Piano, violin, plus others instruments! It’s like traditional music from the eastern countries! I like traditional music (but some more than others :D)! No voices! Or it could be Yann Thiersen?

:heart::heart::heart:: 15. Piano, men voices, the atmosphere of the song reminds me of the EP “Songs against glaciations” from Get well Soon.

:heart::heart::heart:: 02. This song seems also familiar to me! Damn memory :lol: Is it a female or a man voice? I can’t tell :blush: Harp or maybe strings from violin, piano, tambourine! Calm song, folk/alternative style!

:heart::heart::heart:: 11. Piano and violins, string bass, seems like a soundtrack movie, no voices, it’s soothing! Is it maybe Yann Thiersen?

:heart::heart::heart:: 07. Accordion, banjo, violin: country or traditional Canadian music?

:heart::heart::heart:: 10. Johnny Cash covering NIN’s “Hurt”, nice!

:heart::heart::heart:: 08. Calm song with birds sounds all along the song. Make you want to lie on the grass under a tree, look at the sky and listen to all sounds around you :happy: Calming female voice! (The only song where the info show off but it didn't bother me because I don't know this singer ;))

:heart::heart:: 14. Female and man pleasant voices, guitars, it seems to be acoustic!

:heart::heart:: 09. Deep man voice, acoustic with guitars!

:heart::heart:: 03. Guitars, acoustic! The man voice seems familiar to me! At the end it gets more rock with electrical guitars, there is a long solo!

:heart:: 05. Female deep voice, guitars, acoustic song!

The person who has make this mixtape seems to like Alternative, Folk, Acoustic styles with a calm atmosphere and I sink in this world with delight :happy:

However, I missed a bit more songs that make you move but, hey, that’s just me ;)

So I can't wait to see the tracklisting and found out more songs from the bands/singers I liked ;)

Thanks for taking time to do this mixtape and please don't blame me because I was late to review it, it doesn't mean I don't respect your work or I don't enjoy taking part in this fun and enriching music exchange, it's just I've been busy adding with the recent sickness, it doesn't help to reply quicker ;)

And thanks The Escapist for your great job ;)

:heart: LOVE Tété!!! His in my top 3 of french artists. AWESOME live! Nice choice Deirdre!

Thank you ;) You lucky girl had seen him live :nice: I missed him when he was on concert near my town! But soon, there will be a new album so a new tour, so excited :dance:

(Your avatar is so funny! These shirt is really colorful, very "fezzien" :lol:)

I guess what matters the most with the Wriggles are the lyrics, but I dunno, I've never liked them... and I never will :D (cela dit je ne suis pas du tout chanson française... à part les Rita, Alain Bashung, Vanessa peut-être? et ça s'arrête là)

Yeap the lyrics are an important point but I also like their music ;) But, if you don't like them, you don't like them, point! Everyone has different tastes (et heureusement) ;)

Woah, I said nothing about being angry with you, I was just afraid you wouldn't react at all. Take it easy.

I think I didn't express myself correctly, I said your comment has make me angry not that you are angry with me ;) Plus, with some rest, I realized I over reacted a bit but tiredness plus sickness isn't a good mix!

hehe its all good! hope your feeling better! thanks for the mix! a massive thanks to the escapist for doing this!

Thanks for your understanding :nice: I hope I get better soon! But I'm going to respond to your review today ;)

Sorry for the double post :blush:

Thank you ;) You lucky girl had seen him live :nice: I missed him when he was on concert near my town! But soon, there will be a new album so a new tour, so excited :dance:

Yep! He came last year in my town in a very tiny venue to test his songs for the new album (which will come out anyday soon). It was very 'intimate' and AWESOME :awesome: I was smiling like an idiot and stood up clapping like crazy the all time. He saw me :facepalm: but he smiled back so I guess he's used to crazy fans :lol: He was very very funny and he's a real ray of sunshine on stage. Here my pics (they weren't allowed but everybody get their cameras out at the encore, so did I!)

Tété - Mai 2009 Tours

:heart: Hope I could see him again for this tour!

(Your avatar is so funny! These shirt is really colorful, very "fezzien" :lol:)

Thx! This shirt is just priceless :laugh3:

:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:: 04. Weird voices at the beginning and the end, it makes me laugh! I guess it's a folk/alternative style! A lot of instruments! Makes you want to dance and sing along: “We’re catching bullets in our teeth, na na na na na”! My favourite :happy:

This is a British experimental folk band called Tunng. They use all these funny little samples and weird instruments. Glad you like it!

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 13. I have already heard this song before, maybe an add on tv, with the whistles at the beginning and the end! There are a man and a female voice! There is clapping hands, "yukulélé", violin, some flute and others instruments! Folk/alternative style.

This is (again) a British indie-folk band, Noah and the Whale. And yes, their song has been used in about 5 or 6 ads!

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 01. The melody seems familiar to me but I can’t remember where I heard this song! The female voice is pleasant and I love the guitar sound/effect at the end (but it’s also there at certain places all along the song)! Folk/alternative style.

You might have heard this song by Crooked Fingers in the American TV series "Chuck" ;) You're right about the guitar sound, I love that too!

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 06. Live song with trumpet and others instruments plus a choir! Is it maybe Beirut? Or a jazzman? Makes me want to listen to the live cd :nice:

This is actually a young Dutch trumpet player who goes by the stage name Kyteman. He made a huge impression on the Dutch music scene last year with his hip-hop orchestra, going from a first performance for 200 people to about 20.000 8 months later.

Unfortunately there's no actual live CD for this, I recorded it from the TV broadcast of the live show I was at...

:heart::heart::heart::heart:: 12. Piano, violin, plus others instruments! It’s like traditional music from the eastern countries! I like traditional music (but some more than others :D)! No voices! Or it could be Yann Thiersen?

This a Belgian folk band. They play a lot at folk balls, in my hometown among others. This is music meant for dancing a waltz too, the literal translation of the song title is "Cruel Waltz".

:heart::heart::heart:: 15. Piano, men voices, the atmosphere of the song reminds me of the EP “Songs against glaciations” from Get well Soon.

This is a Canadian band called Patrick Watson. I got my mom into these guys :P

:heart::heart::heart:: 02. This song seems also familiar to me! Damn memory :lol: Is it a female or a man voice? I can’t tell :blush: Harp or maybe strings from violin, piano, tambourine! Calm song, folk/alternative style!

This song is one of my favorites of 2010 already! British singer-songwriter Tom McRae (so yes, it is a man) off his latest release.

:heart::heart::heart:: 11. Piano and violins, string bass, seems like a soundtrack movie, no voices, it’s soothing! Is it maybe Yann Thiersen?

Definitely Yann Tiersen, this is on a live CD.

:heart::heart::heart:: 07. Accordion, banjo, violin: country or traditional Canadian music?

Johnny Flynn is or used to be Laura Marling's boyfriend :)

:heart::heart::heart:: 10. Johnny Cash covering NIN’s “Hurt”, nice!

Niiiice :nice:

:heart::heart::heart:: 08. Calm song with birds sounds all along the song. Make you want to lie on the grass under a tree, look at the sky and listen to all sounds around you :happy: Calming female voice! (The only song where the info show off but it didn't bother me because I don't know this singer ;))

:heart::heart:: 14. Female and man pleasant voices, guitars, it seems to be acoustic!

Feist ft. Ben Gibbard, off the dark Was The Night compilation album.

:heart::heart:: 09. Deep man voice, acoustic with guitars!

This is the only rather old song on the mix, from 1973. Tom Waits before he drank a gallon of bourbon a day and smoked millions of cigars ;)

:heart::heart:: 03. Guitars, acoustic! The man voice seems familiar to me! At the end it gets more rock with electrical guitars, there is a long solo!

This is a side-project called The Almost. All the instruments are played by Aaron Gillespie, who is also the drummer/singer for post-hardcore/metalcore band Underoath, one of my favorites! Interesting trivia: he's blind in one eye and color-blind in the other.

:heart:: 05. Female deep voice, guitars, acoustic song!

This is by Canadian twins Tegan & Sara.

I absolutely respect the fact that you were ill, I'm very happy you got to reviewing it anyway! :) I do like folk/acoustic music, but I'm also into completely different (loud-ass) stuff like drum 'n bass, post-hardcore, punk, ska and indie rock.

I am :cheesy:

I am :cheesy:

Really? :) What kinda bands do you like?

Before I begin I must confess that most of my mix tape were in a foreign languages ;) so my review will not be as in-depth as others. FL= Foreign Language

Track 1: FL- To start off the mix was a live track from a concert, It is heavy with violin which makes it quite fun and the crowd in the background of the song are enjoying it! The lead singer also sounds like he is enjoying himself with what I presume are catchy lyrics? Fun track to begin with!

Les Cowboys Fringants - Heavy Metal (Attache Ta Tuque)

It's a band from Quebec, Canada and the song tells the story of a love affair which last one summer and begin in a heavy metal concert! There are names of heavy metal bands all along the song!

Track 2: This track begins with a mellow guitar rhythm with addictive lyrics of don’t sell me. Love the instrumental bit in the middle of the song. It makes you want to joke around with friends. Great song.

Hey Hey My My - Don’t Sell Me Now (Hey Hey My My)

It's a French band who sings in English.

I found the lyrics of this song pretty funny!

Plus, a new album is coming soon with a new tour and they coming to my city, I have to go :dance:

Track 3: FL- This song has a bit of a bjork feel in the beginning and then changes to a hard rock feel with heavy singing for the chorus, then switches back to the bjork’y’ sound, then back to the hard rock. Interesting song, not my favorite but it might help if I could understand the lyrics ;)

Rammstein – Klavier (Sehnsucht)

It's a German band. The lyrics are like a poetry and for me it talks about a love story which ended badly.

I found the translation of the song called "Piano" in English;)

Track 4: FL- I must say this song is a bit weird but addicting even though I have no idea what is being said. It reminds me a bit of Muse with the music. The singer is singing in short staccato words emphasizing each bit of the word. The song gives off a hypnotizing feel to it.

Tété – Ton Absence (A la Faveur de l’Automne)

It's a French singer and the lyrics are about the feeling of a break-up, it's like a singing poetry.

A new album is cooming out soon as well as an new tour, I have to see him live too :dance:

Track 5: Every time I hear this song I think it should be in a James Bond Movie, It has this sultry feel to it and then it changes to rock part with heavy lyrics, all the while soft piano plays in the background. The singer has a melodic voice that works well with the song. Intriguing song!

Oomph! – Always (Plastik)

It's a German band and the singer sings some songs in English and some others in German!

Wow James Bond movie... I can imagine it in an action scene! I never thought of it as a movie soundtrack, although they make a song for the last Alien movie (it's called "Wach Auf" - Wake Up in English)

I'm in love with the singer's voice!

Track 6: FL: This track has this way cool intro and then it jumps right into a chorus of fun, with this chime sound in the background. I think it is a French song? I can understand some of the lyrics: Mr. President, bloody? Different song all around, ends with laughing ☺

Dionysos – Le retour de Bloody Betty (Monsters In Love)

You guessed right, it's a French band and it's the story of Betty Boop, bloody version, who saves the world from the bad one (Ben Laden, George Bush, Saddam Hussein, in the song).

The singer sings French and English in a lot of the songs!

Track 7: FL : Err I believe this is a traditional German song, It is heavy with bag pipes and drumming! Way fun to turn up loud on speakers and scare roommates with!

In Extremo - Davert-Tanz (7)

Again right, it's a German band but I don't know if it's a traditional german song maybe from the medival times!

They are known to do german folk rock, medieval metal music!

It's a nice way to scare your roomates :lol:

Track 8: I’m guilty but when this song came up I shouted English! Hehe not that I’m not enjoying the FL songs but its nice to understand what is being said! This song has a mellow feel to it with a pleasant guitar and tambourine riff. The singer sounds so familiar!

Findlay Brown – Losing The Will To Survive (Separated By The Sea)

He's an English singer, I love the atmosphere in his songs!

Track 9: I love this track It sounds like the Flaming Lips? I almost sure it is them, it is such a happy track that you can’t help but smile :D

Indeed, it's the Flaming Lips with Buggin' (remix) (Album: the Soft Bulletin) I have the same feeling as you when I listen to it :nice:

Track 10: FL-This reminds of a mix of Jack Johnson and an awesome blues guitar player. He has such a sultry voice that you can’t help bobbing your head along. I listened to this track three times before moving on to the next track on the mix tape.

Anis – Peut-être Bien (La Chance...)

It's a French singer.

Wow, you listen to it three times in a row, I'm glad you like it so much even if its in French :happy:

Track 11: Great guitar, I’m such a sucker for guitar. This song is a bit depressing but still has great lyrics that make you see past its downcast sound, it has a sound almost like my chemical romance that have great lyrics in their songs.

You guessed right again, it's MCR with Desert Song (DVD with cd: Life On The Murder Scene), so beautiful song, sometimes it makes me cry!

Track 12: FL- My itunes says this Les Wriggles? The song is acoustic and the guys singing all have great voices and are in harmony with each other. Guitar is helping them along. I like this song, it was a peaceful song.

Les Wriggles – La Pâte à Modeler (Justice Avec Des Saucisses)

It's a French band and the song talks about a couple and the man wants a baby but the woman don't, so he makes baby with modeling clay and give them a name, etc.

The band is more on the acoustic side with, depending on the periods, only guitars and voices to do the melody! Plus their voices are getting so well together!

Track 13: FL- Ah this is my kind of music! While I have no clue what is being said I still enjoy the drums and the guitar. The lead singer is kind of reminding me of the singer from The Offspring. Wonderful track!

Die Aerzte – Nichts In Der Welt (Baest Of)

It's a German band and the song talks about a break-up and the feeling it gives!

Farin Urlaub (the one who sings on this track) has a great voice, I like his the most (they are three in the band and the three sing and play instruments).

Track 14: The singer has such a cool voice! He has a little tweak to his voice that makes him unique; there is a girl in the chorus that helps sing with him. The song has a great beat that makes you want to clap along. Kind of reminds me a little bit of The kooks but much quieter!

Jil Is Lucky - The Wanderer (Jil Is Lucky)

It's a French singer who sings in English.

In France, this song is used on a commercial for "Flower" By Kenzo.

I hope I can see him when he comes to my town!

Track 15: FL-This mix tape began with a live track and ends with one as well! This song has crazy awesome acoustic guitar in the beginning and then a man sings with a somber tone that changes a bit in the middle turning into a yearning sound. Finishes with loud clapping from the crowd, obviously a well-liked singer. It was a nice song; I wish I could understand what was being said though!

Subway to Sally – Wehe Stunde (Sclachthof Bastard Tour)

It's a German band and usually their music is more heavy (it's a bit the same style as In Extremo) but I like the acoustic version of this song. The song is about the loss of someone you love!

Overall I thought it was an interesting Mix, there were many songs that I liked and few that I didn’t like so much. I feel like I didn’t do the best with reviewing because 9/15 was in foreign languages so I had to comment on the music aspect more so than the lyrical part. But nonetheless this was a fun thing to do and I can’t wait until the next Mix tape exchange! Good Job to my mix tape maker! You gave me some different music and opened my ears even more!

I like the way you describe the songs, you make some connections I wouldn't have seen :nice:

I'm happy, you didn't get too frustrated because most of the songs weren't in English ;) And I'm glad that you're an open-minded person because there are very different styles in this mix ;)

If you know people who want to translate the original lyrics into English (from French to English and/or to German to English) so you can make your own opinion on the lyrics, I can give you some links ;)

To sum-up the content of the mix (band/singer - Song (Album)):

Yep, seen dEUS live twice. Helpt als je van de buren komt, toch? :P But anyway, I'll give you an example, if you like it the deal's on! ;)

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9055NLRl-6Y]YouTube- ENTER SHIKARI - JUGGERNAUTS - official promo video[/ame]

Thx! This shirt is just priceless :laugh3:

Oh yeah, "The Lab Tour" or something like that, small venues... I'm so jealous right now :P

"I was smiling like an idiot [...] the all time.": I do that too at concerts when I enjoy it :D

Thanks for the pics, I forgot he is bold now anyway he's still good looking :wink3:

This shirt is so not Guy's style :lol:

This is a British experimental folk band called Tunng. They use all these funny little samples and weird instruments. Glad you like it!

This is (again) a British indie-folk band, Noah and the Whale. And yes, their song has been used in about 5 or 6 ads!

Oh my, I know this band but I listen to their album just once!

You might have heard this song by Crooked Fingers in the American TV series "Chuck" ;) You're right about the guitar sound, I love that too!

"Chuck", I like the first season of this serie and you're right that's probably where I here it!

Wow, he's getting famous in a really short period! Good for him :) Too bad for the live cd :( But tell me, there are some non-live cds from him right? And how was the show?

This a Belgian folk band. They play a lot at folk balls, in my hometown among others. This is music meant for dancing a waltz too, the literal translation of the song title is "Cruel Waltz".

This is a Canadian band called Patrick Watson. I got my mom into these guys :P

Good job ;)

This song is one of my favorites of 2010 already! British singer-songwriter Tom McRae (so yes, it is a man) off his latest release.

Definitely Yann Tiersen, this is on a live CD.

Yay, I guessed two songs right on your mix :D

Johnny Flynn is or used to be Laura Marling's boyfriend :)

Niiiice :nice:

Feist ft. Ben Gibbard, off the dark Was The Night compilation album.

I like Feist but didn't recognize her on this track, I should listen to her more often :D

This is the only rather old song on the mix, from 1973. Tom Waits before he drank a gallon of bourbon a day and smoked millions of cigars ;)

This is a side-project called The Almost. All the instruments are played by Aaron Gillespie, who is also the drummer/singer for post-hardcore/metalcore band Underoath, one of my favorites! Interesting trivia: he's blind in one eye and color-blind in the other.

Wow really different from his initial music style!

Thank you for your understanding ;)

And I didn't want to put you in a "music category" but that's what I felt when I was listening to your mixtape :blush: I hope I don't hurt your feelings ;)

I'm also interested in a loud-ass mixtape, seriously! You can put what you want in it ;)

Aw cool. I'll see how much I can scare you and Sirhc with it :P

Btw, may I ask what country you're from, Deirdre?
