HIM ( H.I.M. )

Featured Replies

Ok, they have no thread on this section (and i've searched well those last months, if i'm mistaken MODS do merge thread), and they deserve one

reasons:

- they have been around since 1997 (first album)

-i'm not the only fan here, i know there are more out there :evil: don't hide folks!

- they are releasing new album next month. (8th february 2010).

about new material:

so far they have released first single, i find it a bit too pop-like but well.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88SP2Gxsew8]YouTube- HIM Heartkiller Lyric Video[/ame]

They have played some of the new songs in Helldone festival.

Btw if some HIM fans also followed Linde's side project, Daniel Lioneye, he said that probably will release a new album around this year, this time a black metal one.

If you like them share the :love: , if you don't then don't even bother to post here.

Finally HIM-thread :nice:

Well I've got two HIM mad daughters so I often get to listen to them a lot in the car. :lol:

My daughter's kitten was even called Burton but sadly he was run over by a car when he was only a year old :( The other one has a heartogram tattoo which I was not happy about :whip: :) But I'm used to it now, it's only small on the inside of her wrist and she hides it with her watch at work.

They've just come back from the Helldone festival in Finland where they saw HIM twice, on 29th and 31st December and had the time of their lives. They also took a trip in all the snow to see Ville's house , I wonder where they get their stalking skills from :confused: haha!

They can't wait for the new album either!

^Wow seems like your daughters really are mad about HIM :P This heartogram is soooooo famous. And they went to Finland to see them? That's so cool :D How old are they?

Join Me In Death is such an intense song, I have to say that it is my favorite song by HIM. Seriously, I think I should get myself the cd single.

As to the new stuff, I have to agree with ariadnasquire (oh my, I just noticed we never told each other our names!), I think it soounds a bit too poppish. I'm quite curious about how the whole album will turn out.

They're 26 and 23 and they dragged/invited their boyfriends and my 20 year old son to go to Finland with them too but the girls went to the gigs on their own as it was restricted to 2 tickets per person only when they bought the tickets.

They got into HIM originally through watching Jackass and Viva La Bam, CKY and the Finlandia episode I think :lol: It was several years ago.

I prefer H.E.R.:rolleyes:

I knew YOU where going to comment something like that.

to your knowlegde they were known by H.E.R. (legaly) for some time due to avoid confusion with another band called HiM.

Good song it is.

Well they said next album was going to be as good in lyrics as Razorblade Romance and as good in melody as Dark Light :thinking:

I would like much that they go back to origin a bit.

I thought the same when i listened Deep Shadows and Brilliant Hightlights, that it was a bit too popish, but well it is a good album too.

I didn't knew those tickets are that restricted. :wtf:

Ops Jackass, is me the only one that thinks that's a bad thing?

I think Bam do have make they be more known, but that was not needed.

i listened to the song you've posted Bea and i like it!

any other good suggestions? :cry:

I knew YOU where going to comment something like that.

well said.

well other songs by them... similar to the one i've posted?

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsBHo8LVM3I]YouTube- HIM - Pretending[/ame]

^that video either you like it or hate it, for the dizzy moving :freak:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4AscLidWg]YouTube- HIM - Join Me In Death[/ame]

^the one that MariePeter has mentioned, is pretty well known, and if you check at comments on that vid there's always the fight of if they are gothic or not :facepalm: that's a constant discussion with them. :uhoh:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kya__ocHCk]YouTube- HIM - Poison Girl[/ame]

^one of my fave vids too, althought there's not much special in it, as is just a live video.

First song i listened by them (to which i knew them), was Beautiful (as far as i know that one have no official video).

Second song i checked was Killing Loneliness (video have two versions).

Third song i checked was: Wings of a Butterfly. <- that one got me into them -along with The Sacrement- even more and then i did the usual i do, i checked their whole discography.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUUSz54G6jc]YouTube- HIM - Wings of A Butterfly [OFFICIAL VIDEO][/ame]

^official video of the Butterfly, i used to have that intro on my mobile as alarm clock :wacky: (sure it will give the message that insertion has been disabled :\ )

OMG just checked and finally the vid for Heartkiller is out.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5L9pvwKSjE]YouTube- Heartkiller[/ame]

^i'm a bit meh for the vid, i expected something different, now i wonder if the animals have some hidden meaning or is just random elements.

he has gotten a new tattoo :ruhoh:

yes the same type please. :)

or even their bests songs.

i've posted some on the previous post edited.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WA2jBMk-Pk]YouTube- HIM wicked game[/ame]

^their versions of Chris Isaak classic. (i've just found another official video :o , which yet i have to check).

well recently i'm listening most: Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights album, along with Razorblade Romance.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flOj6BLG3II]YouTube- HIM - The Kiss Of Dawn (Video)[/ame]

Venus Doom is more dark album, due to: they wanted to go back to origin in melody and be darker 'metal', plus singer was going to through bad moments.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMD1k16baVE]YouTube- HIM - The Funeral Of Hearts[/ame]

Love Metal, is good album too, and the one that 'stand' their genre: love metal.

(at least that's what is said, but i'm not a big expert :wacko: )

their best song is hard to say, to me it depends on the mood.

for instance those last days i've been listening to non-album songs (or the Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights albums i've said) as:

you are the one

too happy to be alive

i've crossed oceans of wine to find you

please don't let go

OMG i never saw some vids i'm founding now :confused: i kinda hate it when a band is releasing new material some old fanmade material disappear and rise up again some old stuff that was hidden on a box.

I also like "non-album songs" :)

One of my favourites is Venus in Our Blood, it's a track from Venus Doom Limited Version:

Oh, and I love acoustic versions (whole Uneasy Listening vol. 1 :heart:) :rolleyes:

i've posted some on the previous post edited.

i'm liking those 3 songs

and also Join Me In death is great :)

thanks for the suggestions Bea, will download them as soon as possible :)

btw the acoustic one is also cool.

  • Author

@ Tinttis:

i think i had not listened the Limited Edition before. :surprised: good one :thumbsup: , (i've listened Versitale Doom instead).

Uneasy Listening is a great album (i have 1 & 2 :nice: ).

I love the disrhythm version of The Sacrament, as the piano entrance is better and longer than the normal version. Burton has given a great change to the band imo.

I hope that on this tour they'll come here and that i can go see them.

Are you planning to see them, have seen them already?

(btw -not to get into people life- i've read somewhere Ville should quit smoking in less than 5 years, and he hasn't yet :( )

He has given an interview on last kerrang! issue.

Good to know that you like them ahlem :hug:

They're 26 and 23 and they dragged/invited their boyfriends and my 20 year old son to go to Finland with them too but the girls went to the gigs on their own as it was restricted to 2 tickets per person only when they bought the tickets.

oh really? can't wait to hear the whole album then, and judge by myself.

I used to think Jackass was funny until I saw how little kids who watched the show reacted to it... I don't wanna see any more little Steve-o :P

I know, right. This debate is pointless.

Same for me, really, I fell in love with Wings of a Butterfly before any other songs :)

Hmm. The video wouldn't win an award, in my opinion, but since Ville's in it, it's a good one :P

Wicked Game is very popular. I don't see what's so special about it, but apparently it's one of the favorites. It's a good song but not that good.

Funeral of Hearts rocks :heart: The third song I got to like from them :D

And yeah, I think we can say that their genre is love metal, since their lyrics are always about love.

Oh my god, same here. Yet at the same time, it's always fun to discover something more about one of your favorite bands.

answered in the quote.

oh really? can't wait to hear the whole album then, and judge by myself.

same here, but i hope it'll be a good one.

I used to think Jackass was funny until I saw how little kids who watched the show reacted to it... I don't wanna see any more little Steve-o :P

I never watched Jackass, never followed MTV channel. But i honestly think Bam has done not so good to the band and VV. :\

I know, right. This debate is pointless.

yes endless and pointless debate. As when some people compare them with bands 'alike'... big fail.

Same for me, really, I fell in love with Wings of a Butterfly before any other songs :)

Hmm. The video wouldn't win an award, in my opinion, but since Ville's in it, it's a good one :P

hehe :p

well i've read from comments that people find him so skinny... we'll see, but honestly band members use to be skinny after a long tour and not before, and indeed his face is a bit skinny.

Wicked Game is very popular. I don't see what's so special about it, but apparently it's one of the favorites. It's a good song but not that good.

Well is a version they've done, as they did the "don't fear (the reaper)" one, and still people seem to like most Wicked Game, for reasons unknown.

Funeral of Hearts rocks :heart: The third song I got to like from them :D

And yeah, I think we can say that their genre is love metal, since their lyrics are always about love.

most the lyrics are about love or unlove, at least in my view, anyways i really like the poetic parts he add them, constrast of ideas and so on.

about the genre i can't say myself they stand that genre or this other, at times they've mixed some, but most than genres they have mixed or be influenced by other bands so...

Oh my god, same here. Yet at the same time, it's always fun to discover something more about one of your favorite bands.

well i don't like much the mystery of vids appearing and disappearing really.

Oh hey btw, remember how Coldplay made canvas, mugs, tote bags etc for Whatever It Takes? Well apparently, Ville did the same but with wristbands and shirts :wacky:

http://whateverittakes.org/celebrity.aspx?celeb_id=132

http://whateverittakes.org/celebrity.aspx?celeb_id=132&item_id=157&ret=http%3a%2f%2fwhateverittakes.org%2fgallery.aspx%3fmode%3d1%26cat_id%3d21

second one looks exactly like the Love Metal album cover, at least to me, golden and black.

i wonder what's written in the first link :uhoh:

Oh yeah, Ville is skinny, but I love her body :) We have to rememeber, that he is a smoker and also a vegeterian. Touring/singing is very hard. And I have seen a pic of his little brother Jesse Valo, who is also a very skinny guy.

  • Author

yes i commented that on this thread, he is a smoker and was adviced by doctors to quit it in 5 years, but he has not.

kinda scary where i read it, it said he smokes like 30 cig in 90 minutes :sick: i hope now he doesn't smoke that much, just for his health.

so any of you follow or followed the other band member projects? (Linde's band, Gas band)

have find any reviews or info about the upcoming album? (i mentioned it here, he was interviewed in Kerrang! issue).

Well i found myself some interviews on YT:

is in 2 parts:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YxaIT-T-kU]YouTube- Interview with Ville Valo from HIM @ Radio Energy (January 2010)[/ame]

LOL he mentions Brian Eno and A-ha. He mentions Coldplay related stuff when he didn't spoke so well about them last April. Mentions how new album is.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVuQqhkpY3k]YouTube- Interview with Ville Valo from HIM @ Radio Energy (January 2010)[/ame]

^talks about Heartkiller video. Mentions he is quitting smoking. :)

^about Heartkiller

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYNonrApJxw]YouTube- Ville Valo Interview about Screamworks ! (Metal Hammer)[/ame]

^metal hammer interview, i find audio quality a bit bad but well.

It's so nice to wach those videos, and be proud of Ville because he speaks so good English :)

  • Author

good news is he is trying to quit smoking, i remember on the Venus Doom era interviews he said they tried to play longer tracks so he don't smoke that much :wtf:

i would be proud too, he indeed speak good. Hopefully you'll can help us with finnish interviews. I'll check if there are more coming but surely will be from UK in February and in Australia as tour will start there.

Btw did i mention about the pre-sale pack, which includes an acoustic album called "Baudelaire in Braille". I'm so curious about that one.

I agree :) But I love the video :smug:

HIM will be playing on Estonia's biggest festival, Õllesummer on 15. July.... And I just bought the tickets :dance: This is my first HIM-gig ever. It's funny that HIM is a Finnish band and I'm going to Estonia... But I cant wait!
