My bird's doing the bird equivalent of cutting himself

Featured Replies

He's breaking off his feathers. >.< Christ.

Taking him into the vet's office on Saturday. :/

:( Poor bird. Do you have any idea why he would do that? (is he lonely, bored, disease?)

My sister's hamster tried chewing off his leg before. O.O

That's weird though, hope he's fine. >.>

Could be any one or more of the following

1) His life is too stressful

2) His life is too boring

3) He's really fucking horny

4) He has internal parasites (in which case he will probably die because no way can we afford hardcore large-bird parasite meds)

5) He has external parasites (in which case we might be able to treat it)

We left him in the house for a weekend earlier, we think maybe that freaked him out.

Pretty sure it's sexual frustration though because he's been really hormonal the last year or so and he's in the prime of his youth as it were, and like no birds figure out how to masturbate or anything so I'm afraid he's fucked. (Lol irony...)

Aw man, shame that there isn't any bird porn out there!:dozey:

Oh dear I hope he gets better, I hate it when animals suffer :(

Oh I'm sure there's bird porn OUT there. Just not for birds.

yeah it's really stressful because you just walk up to him and look down and there's like a fourth of a bird's worth of feathers on the ground >.< He's gettin pretty ugly looking too.

Idk what we can do, the only real solution if he's horny is to get him a mate, but yeah no we are not going to pay $1000++ to get another loud, high-maintenance bird. So I don't know.

My old Parakeet did that all the time, so I don't think it's anything bad. I wouldn't really know though since it flew away like a week later :freak:

Hey don't speak too fast Sara, the vet told my friend to masturbate her female cat with cotton swabs because of hormones stuff, which of course she didn't do^^

I guess you should watch it to see if there are any other troubles, with eating or something else... It'll maybe be gone without you doing anything :nice:

My rabbit did the same with her hair, so she had her mouth totally full of them and couldn't eat anymore

Is Saturday the closest you could get him in? Damn.

That's crazy I've never heard of a bird tying to do that to himself. :(

That's really really scary :\

But I hope your bird is okay, it's probably nothing serious.

I'm pretty sure this is something that only domesticated birds do, right?

WTF I am not going to genitally stimulate my bird. no. :blank:

No, Julie, it's actually very bad. It's a sign of psychological DISTRESS. Clearly you abused your old parakeet.

Don't you read BIRD TALK MAGAZINE??

Yeah, because birds in the wild can have wild sex whenever they feel like it basically, or they're too busy surviving to start obsessive-compulsively mutilating themselves. :nice:

Hahahahaha, that's classic!
