Labour were thrashed by the Tories, the Lib Dems flopped . . . but now Brown and Clegg could conspire to keep Cameron out of No10
Nick Clegg has just come out in favour of helping the party with the most seats first. That means he will be looking to co-operate with the Tories ahead of Labour. Looks like he's well and truly pissed on Gordon Brown's chips this morning... if there were any left!
I was looking forward to seeing Brown resign today:cry:

My bet is that it could be a few days before that happens. Clegg has offered his hand to the Conservatives now - inviting them to talks with his party. It's now all about what David Cameron will do now. All eyes are on him. Will he accept the advances or will he reject? In a dream world - he would never have wanted to be in talks with the Lib Dems.

I really don't think David Cameron is wanting to get into bed with the Lib Dems. I'm almost certain that he doesn't want to do that. Maybe talks and deals with the Lib Dems, with the Tories leading as a minority, but not a coalition government. Cameron will baulk at the idea of electoral reform which the Lib Dems are desperately wanting and will almost certainly be a non negotiable deal for Clegg. Heck, Cameron could even say 'You performed badly in this election. You lost seats. You got 4 million less votes than us. Why should I agree to your needs?'

I am just amused to see some one elses government more fucked up than mine. :smug: the pundit fights on the BBC are also rather amusing.

why can't the two big parties (the two more voted) get to govern together?

i mean don't it'll be worst for the country the hung parliament thing?

The two biggest (Labour and Conservatives) are the most opposed to each other. They would not likely to want to form a coalition unless under exceptional circumstances (for example world war). However it has happened three times in the last 100 years. Here is an interesting article on exactly your point: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/dec/31/grand-coalition-hung-parliament

Boris Johnson's comments were hilarious as usual!

It really is all kicking off now. Gordon Brown is about to set out his intentions in a matter of moments and David Cameron is set to make a public announcement at 2.30pm.

Maybe they should let them sort it out in the boxing ring!:P

If the Conservative/Liberal pact goes ahead, then who will get what? More importantly what position will Nick Clegg be offered in a coalition?

Won't be a 'coalition', more of a 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' as a way of forcing through the queens speech in 2weeks.

We'll all be doing this again by Feb next year...

... and labour got in in my consituency by 92 votes down from 7000+

The Tories have not “won” this election: they have simply gained fewer than 50 seats more than the most discredited government in British history. This is a humiliation for the Tories and a grave danger to the country… Everyone in Britain, of whatever political stripe, knows that it did not have to be like this. Any competent leader at the head of a bog-standard, identifiably Tory, real-world Conservative Party would be ensconced in Number 10 today with an overall majority of around 100.

hundreds of voters unable to vote because the queues are too long, including just up the road here in Withington Manchester. Rules are rules 7am - 10pm!

Heard on ITV coverage of people descending to Nick Clegg's house to complain that they were unable to vote in Sheffield on time!

Some people have no excuse for not going to the polling station during the day when it was quieter, some people have reasonable reasons why they left it that late to vote but still take your frecking polling card :P

The real PM (Peter Mandelson) is refusing to concede defeat.:dozey:

It's not Peter Mandelson it's Lord Mandelweasel :P

Mr Young increased his stronghold on this area to a majority of 18563 getting 58.3% of the votes!

What a pathetic article. Cameron has had the support of the masses before but certain circumstances (expenses scandal, George Osborne last October announcing a need for a period of austerity, a sense in the general public that maybe things economically were picking up) didn't allow that to happen. All parties took a hit and all parties will not be satisfied with their performance, including the smaller ones, such as the SNP and Plaid Cymru. Only the Greens will be happy by getting a seat. It has been clear for months now that it was heading for a hung parliament. The truth is - having to overturn a majority of nearly 50 (notional) it was always going to be tough. Anyone expecting a Conservative landslide the equivalent of Blair's labour in 1997 were crazy. At the end of the day it was a good result for Conservatives but not a great one.

The final weekend of a labour government, let's take a look at some of their "highlights" :laugh3:

Considering that News International and Sky are owned by that evil man known as Rupert Murdoch, whom is supporting the tories in their bid to destroy the BBC so he can get some more money to fill his pockets.
