Song Ideas

Featured Replies

This is probably not the correct place to post this, but I wanted to avoid the Lounge. See, I write music. Good music. I have very high standards, and if I feel a song is bad I will not perform it. I figure there will be a lot of musical people here. I have ideas for two songs, one called "Amity Airfields" and the other called "Third Avenue". What do you think they should be about? Any suggestions would be welcome, especially Coldplay-esque ideas. Thanks!

Hi! :D

I have the same situation as you so I think we can both help each other! ;)

So my questions are:

1. What's the band name or artist name?

2. What genre of music?

Band name is undecided at this point, :\ But genre would be...Coldplay! (Probably VLVoD&AHF-type stuff) They're a huge inspiration for me, and I plan to start a band in the next month or two. I'm writing songs to build up our repertoire.

Oh ok! :D

I usually find my song titles from random thinking at night! :D

Like I imagined this song title I have, Glass House, from a dream.

That's pretty sweet. I have a few ideas for songs...and I even wrote a really really good song today but have yet to write lyrics, and I don't have a name for it.

I have a list of like 60 song titles and I have about 20 songs but I'm terrible at writing lyrics and singing so yeah. :(

Yeah, I used to have the same problem. I wrote the music for a great song but only wrote the lyrics for the chorus. Then something changed. BOOM! I suddenly could write lyrics. Heck, once a really good song came to me out of nowhere while I was walking down the street and I wrote it down, lyrics and all in about 15 minutes. So, inspiration is a weird thing.

Yeah I used to drive myself crazy at night thinking of titles. :bigcry:

Now I just think about band ideas like how everything will fit into a title.

But maybe one day I will be able to write good lyrics! :D

What are the lyrics to the songs you have?

Just a sec and I'll type 'em up.

K! :D

Well, they're a little rough. The song that came to me, Flyleaf, has these lyrics:

I was born a blank white canvas,

Primed and ready,

For the Artist to do his great work on me.

I look around and see the heartache,

That this world has in store for all of us

Why can't we see? It's all about eternity.

I'm breaking the mold the world made for me,

I'm taking off on the last flight.

I've got love written on the flyleaf of my heart,

I've got grace tattooed on my forehead,

Things that I can never shake,

Love written on the flyleaf of my heart,

I've got everything I've ever wanted, and then some.

On the first page we found love,

On the second we made a promise,

On the third we followed through

With the plans that we were making.

It's hard to say, "I'll never leave you

Nor forsake you."

When it's obvious how flawed we really are.

We're making a brand new life for us,

We're taking off on the last flight.

We've got stars written on the flyleaf of our hearts,

We've got innocence tattooed on our foreheads,

Things that we can never start,

Stars written on the flyleaf of our hearts,

We've got everything we've ever wanted, and then some.

I can post the lyrics to my other song if you want, but they're not nearly as good as these. They're very Switchfoot-esque, because I wrote both songs before I became a die-hard Coldplay fan.

It was great, but a little hard to follow a rhyming pattern.

I like this part,"We've got stars written on the flyleaf of our hearts"

I would love to hear the others! :D

Yeah, I'm not to the point where I can write good lyrics that rhyme. I'm just glad I wrote lyrics that actually made sense.

Here is the only one I've written so far:

Last Words

These are my last words,

I have to say goodnight.

I really wish I could,

But I don't know if I could fight.

Now that the war has finally begun,

I wonder what will happen when the war is finally won.

It's such a beautiful night,

It's such a beautiful night.

These are my last words,

I have to say goodnight.

I really wish I could,

But I don't know if I could fight.

So I'll pack my things and I'll leave you here alone,

Now I can walk the streets as far as they can go.

It's such a beautiful night,

It's such a beautiful night.

Now the sky could fall on me,

And every wish and every dream.

But in the sky,

Is where I'll lie tonight.

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh.

It's such a beautiful night,

It's such a beautiful night.

I think I can see the light,

It's such a beautiful night.

Yeah you have to start somewhere! :D

I still want to hear the others!

Okay, this one's not as good as Flyleaf, but it's okay. It's called Salvation, at least for now, and it rhymes better:

It's hard to take a moment

When you're burning up inside,

Every day's another letdown,

I want to run and hide,

Take me up, Lord, lead me home,

Tonight.

Change comes easily

When you put the old behind,

And that's not hard to do

When salvation's on your mind,

If you're tired of this life

Of iniquity and strife,

I think it's time to redefine

Ourselves and all we call our own.

All this time I've wasted,

Searching for the road

To a perfect existence,

But He's the One Who saved my soul,

So take this broken man and lead him home

Tonight.

Change comes easily

When you put the old behind,

And that's not hard to do

When salvation's on your mind,

If you're tired of this life

Of iniquity and strife,

I think it's time to redefine

Ourselves and all we call our own.

I'm great at writing music, though. Both of these songs sound really cool. Lyrics are just my weak point.

Very nice! Very Chris-Martin-like!

I like it! :D

I can definetly sense a Christian rock vibe!

That's the only stuff I listened to for a long time. Not that there's anything wrong with it; I love it. It's my roots. It's where I come from.

Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOO much! :D

It has a really great story behind it too!

Story: This year, three days into our freshmen year, a kid in my neighborhood died from Swine Flu, so I wrote it has what everyone was feeling at that time. But, like Coldplay, it can be interpreted different ways, also as a break-up song. :D

Yeah Christian rock is good! :D

I like Switchfoot! :D

I was a huge Switchfoot fan for about a year. I'm still a fan, but I like Coldplay better now. Never seen either live, though, to my regret.
