In Oklahoma:

FUCKING PISSES ME OFF

In Oklahoma, thanks to fundamentalist Christians, there is now a law saying that ANY woman who has an abortion has to have an ultrasound of her uterus while the abortion is happening, that she has to give the fetus a legal name before aborting it, and doctors are required by law to point out things to her as they happen -- as in, "Here's Timmy's fingers, head, beating heart... oh look, his arm just detached and is traveling down your uterus now" -- they literally are required to point out number of fingers and toes and whether or not the heart is beating -- with no exceptions, so rape victims, dying women who need to have an abortion in order to survive, and regular old Joe Schmoes who made a bad decision need to go through the hell of watching this... UGH.

Fucking assholes. Cruelest thing I've heard in days.

Oh, that makes it a little better then. But it's still not right. :\

Killing a person isn't right either, but whatever.

Don't turn this into another "where does life start" debate pls, will ruin point of thread

Killing a person isn't right either, but whatever.

Well, yeah, but just that the government is forcing someone to do these things is unconstitutional. FREEDOM D00DS

But what's so bad about having to look at an ultrasound? They're not forcing you to change your mind.

Just having to name it first I meant...it's just...I dunno. Like, what if you were caught in the worst situation possible, and was getting the baby abortioned...like if you were raped or something? Having to watch something die like that is so sad. :disappointed:

There are no exceptions at all. Rape, incest, dying women -- whatever. Imagine you were dying and had to have your fetus aborted in order to survive... Jesus, you would have to name it! Even pro-lifers can't think that's good.

It just sounds so effing sad to have to watch something living die. :disappointed:

Where does it say you have to name it?

edit: you don't have to watch it die, you just see the ultrasound before getting an abortion.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Lol this is so confusing.

But what's so bad about having to look at an ultrasound? They're not forcing you to change your mind.

They're forcing their pro-life ideals on you though, irregardless of what you actually think

This law is as stupid and cruel as abortion itself.

That's fucking shit

But, talking about this, I was just watching The L Word and Kit was going to get an abortion and she's sitting in the room and a nurse comes in and she says she has a gift for her, she opens the box and pulls out a baby's toy and then a picture of what her fetus looks like and when it's going to be born an all this shit. And yeah... A nurse ran by bible readers blahv;ajf;daj;a

It's fucked up, that's not even right.

Killing a person isn't right either, but whatever.

:) You make me happy Coolsiege.

Isn't it also "unconstitutional" to kill someone?

Josh... wait a second... let me get this straight... you are anarchist and believe abortions should be illegal? wat

Though other states have passed similar measures requiring women to have ultrasounds, Oklahoma’s law goes further, mandating that a doctor or technician set up the monitor so the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims.

A second measure passed into law on Tuesday prevents women who have had a disabled baby from suing a doctor for withholding information about birth defects while the child was in the womb.

After reading that, there isn't even a need for an argument.

^ That bottom part (second measure) is really bad. I think mothers deserve to know that their baby has a condition, you know, so they can actually prepare for the extra load instead of just finding out later. Ugh.

this thread is going to turn into another abortion vs. choice/life threads

Unfortunately...

I'm a medical student, training to be a doctor and I know personally, that doctors will try and avoid saying those things, it would just cause more hassle than what it is worth. ie. it's a traumatic experience, regardless of what they're motive is. If a doctor, were to say those thing, they would be breaking their hippocratic oath by dragging their patient into a black hole.

Josh... wait a second... let me get this straight... you are anarchist and believe abortions should be illegal? wat

Hmmm please point out where I said it should be illegal. All I did was point out the flaw in her argument of "it's unconstitutional". I don't support the constitution, but it certainly claims to protect life! (although it does a very poor job)

Less abortions would happen in an anarchy...without all of the ridiculous legal fees it takes to adopt a child (only rich people can adopt children today), far more people would adopt and far more women would be willing to put their children up for adoptions.

*sigh* Statists...always assuming you mean something else and trying quite unsuccessfully to corner you in an argument
