A random idea...

Not sure if this is supposed to go here... meh. :D

Has anyone found that with their favourite artists, there is one track number on albums of theirs that are the best track of that album? For me, it's track three. Examples:

Coldplay - 'White Shadows', 'Lost!'

Jack's Mannequin (who you've probably never heard of, but are worth checking out... kind of an American Coldplay, only not as good as Coldplay) - 'Bruised'

Green Day - 'Welcome to Paradise' (Kerplunk! version).

Anyone else found this for different track numbers? Post examples if you have!

pretty sure that was the idea behind briggs *favorite 4th track* thread. It's a popular template in albums to start with an intro track, and then alternate the more exciting tracks with softer tracks. The big singles being placed just short of halfway through the album. I find the more mainstream albums start off with the 'hit single' and then steadily decline in quality.

yeah im with you there. my favourite albums from the last few years have had incredible closers, namely Videotape, Oliver James and Foreground.

I find that opening/closing songs are quite important/great for certain bands...

Beck:

Opening songs: Loser, Devil's Haircut, Cold Brains, Sexx Laws, The Golden Age, E-Pro, Elevator Music, Orphans

Closing songs:Blackhole, Ramshackle, Static/Diamond Bollocks, Debra, Emergency Exit, The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton, Volcano

The only beck colser song that hasn't clicked is Side of the Road, otherwise all openers/closers are ace!

Radiohead/Thom Yorke:

Openers: You, Planet Telex, Airbag, Everything in its Right Place, Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box, 2+2=5, 15 Step, The Eraser

Closers: Blow Out, Street Spirit (Fade Out), The Tourist, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Life in a Glasshouse (not really a fan, but great closer for the album), A Wolf at the Door, Videotape, Cymbal Rush

The Beatles:

Openers: Come Together, Back in the USSR, I Saw Her Standing There, Two of Us, Magical Mystery Tour, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Taxman, Drive My Car

Closers: Tomorrow Never Knows, Good Night, All You Need is Love

Led Zeppelin:

Openers: Good Times Bad Times, Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song (don't like it, but great opener), Black Dog, The Song Remains the Same, Achilles Last Stand, We're Gonna Grove

Closers: How Many More Times, Bring it on Home, When the Levee Breaks, The Ocean, Tea for One, I'm Gonna Crawl
