One new year I was stood with my grandad outside staring at the moon and the fireworks in the night sky, It made me think of life and how I Would remember this once he was gone. a year and 5 days later, my grandad died. I Can remember staring out of the window after his funeral and seeing the stars and a full moon it took me right back. Apparently stars and the moon represent New Life and a new beginning and that's what made me belive in Reincarnation, might sound crazy but I hink everything has a Cycle.

i'm thinking that aswell the last years.

in fact my dad says that in a family there's always the same family members, as one 'goes' and another one 'joins'.

How?

Some of the greatest scientists believed in God (Isaac Newton, Galileo, Copernicus).

Also, in the Old Testament there are several scientific things mentioned that scientists didn't even realize were true until not that long ago (such as washing hands after handling dead bodies, that there are mountains and springs under the sea, that the earth is a sphere, that the universe is expanding, just to name a few).

Just to name Galileo, how he was persecuted by the Inquisition because he defended the idea that the sun, not the earth was the center of the planetary system... That, just because in some passages of the Bible it's stated that the sun movement around the earth was stopped or smth like that.

Other philosophers, thinkers and freedom fighters were burned alive... Just because religion. Now, I don't have a graph atm, but if there was one it would be really obvious on how outburst of geniality, new trends and free thinking arising in the Renaissance coincides with the decline of the church power in Europe during the 16th century.

The Medieval age (or dark age as it's also known) doesn't shine for important human expressions of art and science.

The level of your misinterpretations of the meaning of all three of those is quite laughable.

yes, that's my interpretation. Do you have any better?

the enlightenment was huge in taking the church's power away

it's a shame it didn't kill it off completely

they worked it out back then but people still follow the same old religions which are so strict in their teachings yet evolve as time passes by, such as allowing homosexuals into the church, as long as they aren't practicing homosexuals, and allowing women to be vicars etc.

You should come out as being an atheist; but then again I've never even visited Lebanon and I can imagine how that would be tough and even dangerous, so feel free to ignore me. :nice:

I think I'm defently atheist.

Lebanon is not dangerous, but it was, loooooong time ago but now it's... "in peace".

sorry but that was over 100 years ago...

SO...if you were born at that period...you would believe in God?

SO...if you were born at that period...you would believe in God?

the masses weren't as educated and it was forced down peoples throats much more. but no, i don't think i would believe in god.

You can't say that for sure though, I have very intelligent friends who know that the idea of God existing is completely irrational and when they are thinking logically don't even believe in him necessarily, but because they were raised as Catholics and had it drilled into them as children they simply can't escape from the idea of there being a god.

It's scary how easily influenced children are in their beliefs and how much they stick with them long into their lives.

but knowing the way that i think, much of my views on these things being through my own thinking and not from textbooks or philosophies of others i think i would have come to similar answers to what i have done.

i was raised a christian. but then i realised how absurd it all was

but i get your point

haha, i was expecting hotdensestate to answer my question.

but that's fine. :P

ok, that's your opinion and i respect your choice. good luck!

maybe you were about to write 100 centuries ago :laugh3:

No dumbass, it's a meme.

SO...if you were born at that period...you would believe in God?

Probably, in that time period I wouldn't even be educated on account of my vagina, so I would probably just end up getting indoctrinated completely by the Church. And if not, I would sure as hell pretend to believe in a God.

i'm thinking that aswell the last years.

in fact my dad says that in a family there's always the same family members, as one 'goes' and another one 'joins'.

Yeah, the same day my brother was born it was my Great Uncles funeral. but i don't remember it Because I Was like two.

Can we all agree that religion isnt the same as it was 2000 years ago or even 100 years ago?

Can we all agree that religion isnt the same as it was 2000 years ago or even 100 years ago?

I totally agree, people were forced to believe it over 100 years ago and forced to church. Now we have the freedom to believe what we want. and what's all this crap about scientists, they had to say they believed in Gd or noone would have listened like with Charles Darwin.

As much as I don't criticize people who believe in god, I think they should respect those who don't, that's all I have to say.

Whether scientist believe in god or not doesn't mean religion wasn't harmful to knowledge. They controlled everything and manipulated reason the way it was convenient to their qualms, if some ideas seemed to guide people to reason they would immediately accuse them of herecy.

the evolution of pretty much every church or religion shows their frailties. in most cases they have to change to appeal to people as opposed to people changing to discover the 'truth', or at least changed their interpretations.

You say that as if politicians don't do the same thing.

You say that as though I'm backing politicians.

You say that as if politicians don't do the same thing.

That's not a valid argument, this is a different topic.
