hotdensestate
I'm considering quitting meat. Er, yeah. For both health and moral reasons. Arguments for or against by any chance? Am NOT quitting milk, NOR eggs. NO NO NO. I don't eat much fish anyway, partially on the grounds that we are hunting fish to extinction, so I suppose I am quitting fish too (not that fish fall ouside the meat category...) My worries are that I will have no discipline but to be honest meat doesn't even taste that good so hopefully this will be a no-brainer. But yes, like I was saying, arguments for or against, coz I'm curious to see what you all think of it.
the_gloaming09
I think you should do whatever you feel you want to do. I personally could not be vegetarian. Now I'm not for cruelty to animals... honestly I couldn't kill something, I feel all living things have a right to live. If I had to be the one to kill the animal I'd be more likely to be vegetarian. Honestly I would find it hard because I love so many meat based foods (hamburgers, steak, turkey, chicken, etc). But it should be up to you what you want to do. Even if you try to stop eating it for a small amount of time. That way you can see if you like it or not
hotdensestate
Yes, I am going to do it for 30 days, and see what I think of it. It should be good for me anyway, to get rid of toxins, etc.

SimpleBlur
If you want to be a vegetarian, go for it. I've been a semi-vegetarian for only a few months, meaning the only meat I eat is chicken. The reason I eat chicken is because meat is a large part of the rest of my family's diet and I don't have much of a choice in that. I think I'll eventually become a vegan though, once I have the choice. No big reason behind why I am one, I just don't really like meat.
ImLovingGuyBerryman
Personally I don't think that eating meat is cruelty to animals. The way that some producers of meat handle the animals is cruel, but I don't think the eating of it is. But if you want to stop meat cause you don't like it all that much anyways, then whateva.
Prospekt.
Don't do it. It's so good. Like a few weeks ago, I had the Jack Daniels BBQ burger at Cactus club. And oh my god. I was literally jizzing all over myself as I ate it. I dunno if it was cause I was a bit drunk. I don't even know. Like I was in love. And have been craving one ever since. But there's no Cactus Club in my hometown, but tomorrow we are going to Vancouver. So... oh my god. I am salivating just thinking of it. So yeah, I could never do it personally cause I love meat, hate vegetables. But if you do feel strongly about the subject and don't particularly care all that much for meat... then do it. And you can have a perfectly healthy diet without it so if you can and want to... you should

Like it tastes good for a while then you chew a bit and it's like "...this tastes the same except slightly more bland now." And then you have to keep chewing just to get it to a fucking swallowable state. haha.

Lizzybear
It sounds silly, but I only try to eat meat about twice a week now. I don't think it's cruel to eat animals, but I'm definitely against the treatment of animals in most of the slaughter houses. If people even had any idea what goes on in them, I think millions of more people would be vegetarians. Especially with chickens. They load them up with so many steroids and make them grow so fast that the chickens collapse under their own weight and can't move. They all live in their own feces until its time for them to be killed. And then we eat that shit. It's horrific. Don't go to this website if you get sick easily by this sort of thing. But it might be helpful if your thinking of going vegetarian as there are a lot of different tips on that website as well. http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan/slaughterhouses.html And I know not everyone can do this but I've gotten my mom to buy meat locally from in town butchers and farmers who don't use those practices. Yeah I try to get my dad to buy free-range meat, I think you can notice the quality of taste as well. Eating meat twice a week sounds pretty balanced as well. I watched Fast Food Nation ages ago but continued to eat meat on nutritional grounds, cuz I used to swim, but I quit and there is literally NO reason to continue to eat the amount of meat that I do, it's almost disgusting in itself. I plan on replacing my former protein intake with Nutella.
Wherrwhfer
I guess I am the first vegetarian to come to this thread. I haven't had any meat in a year now. eff-exx
Forgoing BEEF and PORK? LYK SRSLY? PORK. BEAUTIFUL PORK. *Would love to post pictures of pork dishes but considers it inappropriate* And beef is like heaven. :freak: Anyway, it's actually a good idea. :nice: Pork is dirty if you actually think how it's been processed, etc. And once you know how the animals area killed to obtain their meat, you wouldn't want to eat it anyway. What are your moral reasons?
Wherrwhfer
I love to have that feeling that I can look at an animal that's not feeling good, without being double moral or whatever it's called. I mean, people just eat it afterwards.

Yggdrasil
I have a couple of friends that are vegetarians, both for different reasons though. Another one is mostly because of her healh issues and I can tell you, she has lost so much weight! I'm almost jealous. And the other one, then, started being a vegetarian only because she doesn't like the taste of meat. People are different, and you should just do what you think feels the most right thing to do. That's my advice.
Zeya
Yeah I try to get my dad to buy free-range meat, I think you can notice the quality of taste as well. If you don't think that eating meat is not cruel and you're already buying free range meat, then I don't see any moral reasons why you should stop eating meat. And it is better to get all the nutritions from the natural sources rather than depending on supplements, no?
AnnaElisabeth
Ok, long multi-quote, so I'm putting it in spoiler... I'm considering quitting meat. Er, yeah. For both health and moral reasons. But yes, like I was saying, arguments for or against, coz I'm curious to see what you all think of it. Congrats on trying to become vegetarian! I think you'll soon find that it isn't hard to do at all, and there are lots of great meat substitutes if you should miss meat. On the eggs and milk thing... I'm vegetarian (going vegan when I move away from home, 'cause you know... Parents :P) myself and I sometimes eat eggs and drink milk (I don't really like it ) Make sure you choose free-range organic eggs and organic milk! :) Personally I don't think that eating meat is cruelty to animals. The way that some producers of meat handle the animals is cruel, but I don't think the eating of it is. But if you want to stop meat cause you don't like it all that much anyways, then whateva. Eating meat -especially in the US is- cruelty to animals. In the US most of the meat comes from animals raised in factory farms, meaning many of them never even see daylight. Please read Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer - it's not biased and is simply based on facts. Yes, vegetarianism does have health benefits. Just make sure you do it right! Cause as I know you know, it can be harder to get your protein. I'm sure you'll handle it correctly though, since you happen to pretty much be a genius. :awesome: Protein is actually very hard to get a deficiency in! Watch out for B12 deficiency and low iron levels, though. :) I want to become a vegetarian, and then maybe a vegan. I do love meat though, or.. I am extremely picky when I eat it. And I know that us human are 'meat eaters' but I just don't like the way we get our meat. How we slaughter the animals and just... I've seen enough videos :wreck: I don't consider humans meat-eaters at all, and I'm probably going to get a lot of crap for this, but I don't care, haha. :P Human teeth are blunt, we have long intestines and we don't have high levels of acid in our stomachs to break down the meat - and as a result it rots in our intestines! That is why meat is linked to colon cancer. If you compare this with for example a lion - they have short intestines (which helps the meat leave their bodies quicker) and sharp teeth to rip the meat from their preys. I can accept the fact that humans used to eat meat. But we've never, ever eaten it like we do today. We eat antibiotic packed meat from animals who eat other dead animals - several times a day! A 'natural' way of eating animals would be to run for a few hours for an animal who's lived in the wild, eaten grass, kill it yourself and eat it while it's fresh. Then maybe not eat meat for another week or so. There, I said it - bring on the flames, hah! :P I guess I am the first vegetarian to come to this thread. I haven't had any meat in a year now. And I am certainly not planning on starting to eat it again. I love not eating meat. Me too, I could never, ever go back to eat meat. No way. YOU MUST DO IT BECAUSE MR MARTIN WANTS YOU TO DO IT AND THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS SCREW MAKING YOUR OWN DECISIONS LET HIM DECIDE FOR YOU HAHAHAHA  Phew :sweatdrop:

mikamay
I was a vegetarian a long time ago for about a year (although I still ate fish, so I don't know if it really counts)... But I didn't really do it for any reason other to see if it could. Then I just slowly began to eat meat again. I give lots of kudos to people who have the dedication to become vegetarian/vegan and who do it for whatever their own personal cause is. (also just because you stop eating meat, doesn't mean you're eating healthy. Make sure you still get your source of protein, but I'm sure you know that. I just had a friend who went vegan and wasn't eating enough protein, so she started to get sick.) Personally, I love meat - well, food in general - and I don't think I could give it up again.
