August 1, 201015 yr Belle & Sebastian’s name inspiration dies Children’s author Cécile Aubry succumbs to lung cancer Cécile Aubry, writer of the children’s book and cult French television series Belle et Sébastien, from which the Scottish indie group took their name, has died age 81. About a boy who lives in the mountains with his pet dog, the popular book was adapted by Aubry into a black and white television series in 1965, starring Aubry’s son Mehdi El Glaoui. A dubbed version was broadcast by the BBC in the late 1960s and the original run of episodes was followed by two further series, which were filmed in colour. Before embarking on a career as a children’s writer, Aubry was an actress, starring alongside Orson Welles in 1950’s The Black Rose, reports The Guardian. http://www.nme.com/news/various-artists/52306
