What makes you unique?

Being unique is never down to one factor, well it rarely is.

it's a combination of everything, interests, hobbies, moods, the way we think ^^^^ and such.

But even at that, there could be someone out there like you.

For me,

I can't think of anything which is seriously unique. :uhoh: even when it is a combination of lots of factors.

Ah! Poifect! This is exactly what I've been trying to say about how we view this thread, in such a perfect little bundle of a sentence.

I think some people have been looking at it too hard, at individual traits, you hit the nail there, it's a bunch of everything combined.

Oh and I'd say you seem pretty unique, that comic book thing you like, Lady Gaga, meh I guess I don't know much about you but I'd say you're definitely as unique as other people on here at least.

why thank you :nice:

And I guess I like an odd combination of lots of things, thank you :cheesy:

I feel like I know nothing about you so I'm not going to lie and bullshit about what I think makes you unique :blank:

Haha I wouldn't want you to do that, and didn't expect you to. To be honest liking that weird comic is something I'll never understand and I saw it in your avatar so I guess it just clicked. And then I remembered you like Gaga for no reason.

Yeah maybe my opinion wasn't based on much haha, but I wasn't trying to bullshit.

I agreed with what he said about thought processes, and it's also something I feel that's unique about me, I often think about the littlest things and situations and why they happen or the psychology behind people, and analyse many possibilities.

And before it's brought up, I do indeed realise that I am not the only person on earth who thinks like that, as I've even met plenty of people who think like that, but to generalise, it's certainly not how the average person is. Most people take most things at face value, not really thinking about why they happen or whatever, they just accept most things as they are. I don't do that nearly all of the time, I always want to get to the bottom of things even if they don't matter in the grand scheme of things whatsoever.

Come on, most people think that about themselves. People are shallow on the surface no matter who they are. You don't look at a person and automatically think, "Hm, I bet they really consider the little details and things in life sometimes." You just naturally assume that they don't, and it's not bad or anything, it's just what you do, you know?

It's on-topic.

Sometimes I have these compulsions where I really need to know an answer. I can't think of it but there was a really good example of this a few days ago (Which shows how meaningless it actually was) and it had something to do with Louis Theroux (Documentary maker) and I spent maybe over an hour searching through loads of information, old doc's, interviews, etc. And then I got whatever answer I got, and was like, "Oh".

It wasn't even the answer though, it's the fun of getting to it really, and discovering things you never knew. So while sometimes this thought process can hinder me (I do end up fussing over little things that aren't important at times, especially at work) for the most part I really enjoy it.

Again, I think people do that more than they get credit for.

Here's a twist:

How many of you have ever tried to find someone else who was like you? You know, similar personality, similar tastes, similar sense of humour, and a similar world view. Did it ever work? Did you ever get close?

Now, of you who came close, how long was it until that other person said or did or liked something that was a complete dealbreaker- something that make you think wait a minute, they're not anything like me at all no matter what it seems like. Maybe they're an extreme socialist/conservative and you're not and you can't possibly fathom how they would think what they do about something. Or maybe they're obsessed with Twilight or heavy metal or something random you can't stand. Or maybe you find out that they have a temper and you don't.

Even if that never happens, what are the chances that doppleganger looked anything like you?

I've come close a few times, but within a couple of months if not days there would always be something that made me entirely re-evaluate what I thought of the person and realize that the similarities were just on the surface. *sigh* I am alone in the universe, it seems. I certainly haven't been able to find anyone who's mind works quite like mine.

I feel like this because many times in everyday life around friends or co-workers I draw up likely conclusions to problems they can't understand, without really thinking about it too hard.

I know what you mean but that opinion doesn't mean there are no people with unique thought processes in the world.

Well no it doesn't, and yeah people don't always give things lots of thought but as far as I can tell everybody does, just not necessarily in the same areas you do. Like at work, your coworkes may not appear very analytical but in all likelihood they are about something, just not necessarily what you are analytical about. you know.

People say that one of my best friends and I are really alike, our mannerisms, our views on things, even what subjects were good at in school. Her family also mistook me for her when we were in a show together and my aunt mistook her for me when she was at my house :wtf:

We even say that the things we hate about the other person is what we do ourselves so we can't complain.

But there's things that separate us, which make us completely different.

Like, I don't like reading and she loves to and other such dealios.

I guess I understand but that cartoon you posted threw me about a million miles off what I think is your point. By the way those people who sit in a group situation totally silent, thinking that, are normally trying to prove to themselves that they're above chit-chat, when in reality you need to be somewhat bright not to be a total dullard in group conversation. They are usually dullards, or geniuses who genuinely don't want to speak about normal things.

But to that point, no actually, I don't get it. You originally said that everyone thinks that their mind is a beautiful engine of knowledge, and anyone who claims that they think they have a unique thought process must be instantly wrong because of this, and now it's like your taking the light off that because it was a whackjob thing to say.

Didn't even see this somehow (The result of replying to things without refreshing the page before submitting, and generally doing other stuff while replying) and it's a great twist.

Yeah that's a very good example of how unique you realise you are. My best friend and my brother are probably most similar to me, but when it comes down to it, on many, many topics, we're totally different people in the way that we think, yet to an outsider you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference at first.

And that's like you said, you only realise these things after months of knowing someone well enough, and once you realise there's something totally different about them as to how you'd think of it, hundreds of other things start cropping up. So I've known those 2 people for years, and if I had only met them now, I'd totally think they are the same as me, but in many ways we definitely aren't. But that's the great thing about everyone being unique.

Well yeah, what they were saying wasn't the point I was trying to make though, I was trying to make the point that people tend to think negatively about others when really everyone thinks that about everybody else, like in general. Specifically I think I was addressing the way people think they are more analytical than average, because it seems to me a lotttt of people think that.

Although, what do I know. I'm not really sure if that's even what most people think.

But to that point, no actually, I don't get it. What? No I'm not. I don't even know what you're saying. My only point was that a lot of people think that the way they think is more analytical than average and I was equating it to what was going on in that comic. Argh.

I guess I took the "Come on," as "Don't be so naive", it's just that Jules and myself actually gave some reason as to why we think we're unique which is a very difficult question to answer, and you shat all over it.

But I did over-react, you did say most people think like that, and I assumed you meant that those who don't think they are unique thinkers are realistic, and the rest who do think they have an individual thought process are simply wrong. If you meant that most people feel they have a unique mind, and very few of them are right, then I'd agree.

What? Sorry. I didn't mean to imply you were being naive or thoughtless, I just say come on a lot. I didn't mean to shit all over your answer. :wtf: I'm just disagreeing for heaven's sake.

All I was saying was from at least MOST of the people I know MOST of them tend to think that they are "more analytical than average" and I'm just pointing out, I think people tend to underestimate the intelligence of the general populace.

I haven't tried, but I stumbled upon this one girl over the internet. We have similar tastes, similiar humor, similiar view upon the world, similar interests, similar taste in music, similar thoughts and meanings. I don't think we have similar personalities, and we definitely don't look like each other. But we're pretty much the same freaking person :laugh3: And we've been friends for a couple months now, and I just love her so much :wacky: Her mind and mine work the same. I never EVER thought I was going to find someone like her, but I'm so grateful, I finally have someone to share my crazy thoughts with :awesome:
