Coldplay renew Universal publishing deal

Coldplay has extended its publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group to cover future song writing. Financial terms or the length of the contract was not revealed. Universal has been the band’s publisher since 2007 when the music major acquired BMG Music Publishing, the group's original publisher.

Caroline Elleray, current head of A&R, Universal Music Publishing U.K., had originally signed the multiple Grammy-winning four-piece to BMG Music Publishing in 1999. In a statement, Paul Connolly, president of Europe and U.K., Universal Music Publishing, hailed the band as "all that's great about music today."

Connolly went on to say: "They're incredibly talented, they write fantastic songs, and they deliver amazing shows to their fans. They've sold over 50 million albums worldwide and their huge success is entirely deserved. We're obviously very proud to be Coldplay's publisher so it's great that we've been able to extend our relationship with them in this way".

Dave Holmes of 3D Management, the band's manager added: "Coldplay and myself are pleased to continue our relationship with Universal Music Publishing. Paul and Caroline are the best in the business and we are happy to be a part of their ever growing family," Holmes continued.

This thread is a huge success.

Oh, and yay.

Hmmm... do you think maybe that's why they haven't been in the studio for awhile? They had to work through the red tape of the deal first before they could continue to make music, because they weren't sure yet who they'd be making the music for? I suppose that's unlikely, but still a possibility nonetheless.

Yeah i agree with you but i think mainly its that the guys just need a well deserved break. they have managed to conquer the world with Viva, played hundreds of shows and they just need time to recover. to be fresh, to get out of the mindset of Viva and start a new journey.

to be honest im surprised they will not be releasing and publishing themselves with them being the biggest and best band in the world!!! :D

It's more like when your subscription to a magazine is ending and you decide if you want to re-subscribe, I don't think this slowed down the process of the album, I think, Jon and Chris have been doing some things in New York, and Will and Guy are in the London Studios.

It's on the Dutch MSN homepage..

Yes, I thought maybe that's why they decided to go "on break" in NY for awhile, while things were being cleared, even though admittedly it was only a small possibility. I'm hoping that Will and Guy have been in the studios often (I assumed it after overhearing something last month), although someone in another thread mentioned that Guy is in France right now, but I have no idea if that's true. I really hope that Will and Guy have been there a bit, keeping Miller company... especially because I want to hear lots more of Will's lovely voice on this album! :bomb:

It looks like Chris is having a good time over here, and probably Jonny too.

But hopefully they're not spending too much time at Walmart.

One question.. Weren't Coldplay under EMI label? Are they "under Sony protection" now? I'm a little bit confused...

FOR CARRIE......

HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER< DID YOU SAY WALMART?

They do deserve a nice little break.Chris is in the Hamptons anyways (and apparently Guy in France).

I think they were all in NY to record. At least for a couple of weeks or so

This is crazy.

Okay, I've been excited for too long, now I'm taking a break.

THIS! i mean, universal is like the direct rival of EMI. this isn't a mere 'renewal', i guess....

Well, I hope it works out :)
