Do you get into bands before or after you see them live?

Featured Replies

So after seeing Greg's thread on musical tastes over the years I began to think about all the bands i've seen over the years. It also got me thinking...

Do you typically get into a band before or after you see them live. Like is it before or after you see a band live that they become all that you listen to?

For me I find that for the most part it's after I see a band live that I have a few weeks later that they are what I mainly listen to.

normally before mainly because i attend few concerts, i may get into some bands after if they were support band and i liked them but i didn't knew them.

I can't say I've seen a lot of concerts :disappointed:

THIS.

usually before.

but there are some bands that I have really gotten into after seeing them live such as The Besnard Lakes, Hey Rosetta!, and Rich Aucoin.

I've Only ever been to a Kylie Concert (not my idea, Mum booked it for her BDay):(

Before! Usually when I'm going to see a band I go through a "preparation period" where I'm sort of obsessed with this band! Besides the more you know a band the more you can enjoy the concert imo.

usually i listen to them before and go "hmm i like this... enough to want to see them live"

and then i add them to THE List

Usually before, because we don't have that many concerts here and the prices are insane so it's not like we go to every concert related to the music genres we like.

But for example if I've barely heard some bands stuff and they are opening acts I got more into them. This happened with Bat For Lashes (opening for Coldplay)

depends, but usually before. i noticed that i normally like gigs better when i can sing along to the songs and stuff. it happened a lot though that i liked support acts and got into them after the gig. i'm usually not that bothered about support acts before the concert - if i know them, cool, if not, it's a surprise ;)

i've been to about 60 concerts so far and have discovered some great support acts, for example johnossi, milow, the hoosiers, sondre lerche and the cinematics. but yeah, i usually know the main act quite well before the gig and there have been very few exceptions so far.

I've never seen anybody live. :blank:

Hm.. I have to like a band enough to want to see them live (buy ticket, make time, travel, etc.) but the live performance is what usually determines if I really like them or just think they are okay. Shitty live show = :disappointed:. I usually don't "prepare" that much for a concert because I want to be taken by surprise. Sometimes I even go see bands I don't know at all just for the heck of it (and I really love live shows). In other words, live performance is what makes or breaks a band for me.

Those two for me as well!

It takes some love to decide to go to a concert but if White Lies and Jay-Z hadn't opened for CP at Wembley, I wouldn't have gone to their gigs later.
