October 21, 201015 yr Me too, me too! I like SMBH! :D I know it can get repetitive and is probably overplayed, but it just has a great groove to it. I like the live versions more, when Matt changes up the guitar parts (like in HAARP). And I thought your trumpet story was cute. It does look like a really hard instrument to play! Wind instruments look really difficult; I'm impressed by people who can play 'em. I asked my brother to play the Knights of Cydonia trumpet part too, and he saw this video: [ame= ] [/ame] And then dissed Dan! :wreck: Because he presses the valves down with like the base of his fingers instead of with his finger tips. :disappointed: I play clarinet, which is more difficult than a saxophone yet a hell of a lot easier than an oboe. :anxious:  It's not too bad once you figure out exactly how to get sound out; like how you need to buzz your lips for brass.
October 21, 201015 yr ^Well I think my problem is that, I don't know how to get the sound out  that's what I like about the flute...getting the sound out is easy lol

That's okay; Dan still gets an A+ from me! Even though I'm not an expert on trumpet-playing. :lipsrsealed2: I think the clarinet and flute are my favorite wind instruments. :nice: They sound really nice! I remember someone telling me that oboe is one of the most difficult instruments, since you have to blow into a really small mouthpiece and still produce a lot of sound. :dizzy:
October 21, 201015 yr They only thing that matters about Dan is that he plays Knights Of Cydonia! Who cares about the technique? I only care about results!

I remember someone telling me that oboe is one of the most difficult instruments, since you have to blow into a really small mouthpiece and still produce a lot of sound. :dizzy: It's not really, but it doesn't affect sound. It's his personal style :wacky: (although it could make fast fingerings difficult). :cheesy: The oboe is so hard because it's a double reed, unlike the clarinet where a single reed is attached to a mouthpiece. Oboe on top, clarinet on bottom:

The oboe is so hard because it's a double reed, unlike the clarinet where a single reed is attached to a mouthpiece. That's pretty cool of Dan, I guess. :D Ah, I see; the double reeds are much more difficult to play. (Again with my lack of knowledge on wind instruments. :blank:) Thanks, Christina! Looks like you do learn something new every day.

(Again with my lack of knowledge on wind instruments. :blank:) Thanks, Christina! Looks like you do learn something new every day. Yeah. :awesome: No problem. :P And that's very true, like today I learned that ancient India was taken over by Aryans in the BC years. yay for world history!
October 21, 201015 yr ^And I learn two things today  But seriously, the oboe looks very difficult :|
October 22, 201015 yr There's not much love for City of Delusion :( It's one of my faves from this album. Mine too! It was my favrotie of the album when I first bought it. :awesome: YouTube - Muse - City of Delusion (pro shot video) Dan the Trumpet man solo at 3:35 :awesome: That trumpet solo is one of my favorite parts. :nice: DAN!! :awesome: My little cousin is learning how to play trompet, I tried to play it and when I blow there was no sound! :| My family still makes fun of me after that day :shifty: It's harder than it seems! Haha, awww! It's OK; buzzing is something that can take quite a bit of work. I remember how funny it felt to me when I was first learning how to play horn. It tickled. I told my brother he should learn that, but then he laughed and said Muse is lame. :| I'm actually a SMBH fan. I love Wolsty's kind of growly "SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE" when they play it live. :P Man, I thought your brother was cool. I've been proven otherwise. :disappointed:  WOLSTY YAY. That's what I love about SMBH. He's an egotistic trumpet player. Oh wait, that's a bit redundant. :| Band joke. :P  :awesome: AAAAAAAHAHAHA. It's funny BECAUSE IT'S TRUE. :laugh4: Disclaimer: There are exceptions. However, generally speaking, trumpet players think they're better than everyone else. And I thought your trumpet story was cute. It does look like a really hard instrument to play! Wind instruments look really difficult; I'm impressed by people who can play 'em. They're not bad once you get used to it. Instruments just take time to learn to master. As a wind player (I'm a music education major at my university, and horn is my primary instrument), I've just gotten used to how to play things, and as far as those types of instruments go, I've never had a real challenge with anything I've encountered. Now, string instruments are a different story entirely... I asked my brother to play the Knights of Cydonia trumpet part too, and he saw this video: And then dissed Dan! Well, apparently, Muse didn't care what he did, so why should your brother? I understand your brother's frustration, though, because that IS technically incorrect. Actually, when I tried out all the instruments in the beginning of 6th grade, I had a much easier time on clarinet than saxophone. :wtf: Ionno. :dizzy: Flute is really fun to play. I absolutely love it. I have yet to take Woodwinds 2, so I can't tell you much about double reed instruments. However, I did have a friend of mine (who is an oboe major) tell me that bassoon is a really weird instrument to learn, particularly if you are really accustomed to a different instrument. It's not really, but it doesn't affect sound. It's his personal style :wacky: (although it could make fast fingerings difficult). :cheesy: The oboe is so hard because it's a double reed, unlike the clarinet where a single reed is attached to a mouthpiece. Oboe on top, clarinet on bottom: Yeah, that's why the fingertips should be used. It's true, too. I've discovered that with my own experience. It doesn't affect the tone quality of teh instrument, though, so it's whatever. I'm worried about taking Woodwinds 2 for that very reason. Double reeds. :wreck: Ah, I see; the double reeds are much more difficult to play. (Again with my lack of knowledge on wind instruments. :blank:) Thanks, Christina! (I've been told) Sax is a lot easier than clarinet. Double reeds! :bigcry: Be very afraid! :uhoh2: No problem. :P
October 22, 201015 yr Awwwww, LOL. That is very selective. :blank: Me, I can play Muse (among other things) on several instruments. ("Collateral Damage" sounds nice on flute. :nice:) Well, he's your brother. It's his job. Well, I haven't tried saxophone since then; it's grouped with oboe and bassoon in Woodwinds 2. We'll see what happens. Thanks, that's very reassuring. :blank: :nice:

That sounds really difficult. :uhoh2:
October 22, 201015 yr Ahh... BH&R... has to be my favourite Muse album actually, just beating OoS. Invincible is my favourite Muse song, full stop, especially in HAARP  This album is quality from start to finish: Take A Bow, Starlight, SMBH, Invincible, Problematique, Delusion and of course Knights of Cydonia... one of my favourite albums of all time, if not THE favourite :D
October 22, 201015 yr Great post Kelly:nice: i love BH&R, i wish i knew how to describe how i feel about it but i'll try: i really love Starlight it's the first muse song i heard too Supermassive Black Hole is one my favorites, it's the song that made me notice muse:wideeyed: Map of the Problematique is currently my favorite, the best song n the album imo( just because i prefer the live version of Knights of Cydonia), invincible is pure cheese but i like it, Soldier's poem and Hoodoo are brilliant...the only song i don't like is City Of Delusion but i'm growing to like it, Take a bow is definitely one of my favorites i can completely relate to wanting to throw down your leaders and suffering the concequences of what they've done the guitar riff half way throught it is epic, the end of it rocks and the lyrics are brilliant:bomb:
