Remembrance Day

Featured Replies

it is a day for the war veterans (WWI or WWII)? *ok i just did some research and is that.

we don't as offically Spain didn't took part in any of those wars, thought we have few days for some old wars (cuban war) and some minority events for the civil war i guess, but is not like tv give a special programme or something, also is an ordinary day work wise.

yes

speccially in the area of the Ijzer river and Ieper

It's not a public holiday here and wearing the poppy is frowned upon.

Even though nearly 50,000 Irish soldiers were killed in action in World War I.

It's frowned upon to remember veterans? :uhoh2:

Yes, we celebrate it here. Some schools even get off for it.

Usually the history teachers talk about it, give some history and everything.

And it goes by several names, it used to be Armstice Day and it's called Veteran's Day in the United States, in case that helps some people.

I try to. I ususally end up stabbing myself with the pin on my poppy.

They should make them magnetic or something.

Are you serious? I don't agree with that. It's just wrong.

It's totally ridiculous, we should be allowed to wear one.

Ireland had a rising against Britan during the time of WWI. The poppy is so related to the british and that time that people here

think it's wrong for the irish to be part of remembrance day.

Oh, I see.

It's so wrong. :\

We had a minutes silence but half the school had it at 11:00 and the other half at 11:11 so it kinda didn't work too well .

:(

It's compulsory for us to wear one, and we have to go to a service on Sunday morning.

And today we have a chapel service and the speech talked about the controversy over poppy's and how some people refuse to wear them.

We also had a one minutes silence.

Yeah, it's celebrated here. I have a friend who is a veteran, and my grandfather served in World War 2, so I take it rather seriously.

We observe two minutes of silence on May 4th at 8 P.M. (the day before the liberation of the German occupation in 1945) for every victim fallen in wars/peacekeeping missions the Dutch have been involved in since WWII. And then on May 5th we celebrate our freedom. :escaping:

Yes here - a parade and ceremony and I love giving the old vets a big hug to say thanks !:clap::army:
