oh,

we aren't that inportant :(

well we don't make a fuss about it so that could be the reason why nobody knew it

Isn't the EU parliament is Brussels? Yeah, it's been pretty low key.

Basically, historically there's been the Flemings and the Walloons, and the Flemings speak Flemish and live in the north, and the Walloons speak French and live in the south. You go from the south of the country to the north and the second you cross the border all the signs switch languages to Flemish, everyone starts hating you for speaking French, etc. (Same way going the other direction.) In other words Belgium is just made up of two social groups that are culturally and linguistically separated and unwilling to deal with one another. Imo it's a miracle they've stayed as one country for so long.

Well the reason why we stay together is the thing that makes it even more complicated: Brussels. They often compare it with 2 people wanting to break up but they can't because of their child :P

Basically, Brussels is a French speaking part on Flemish 'territory'. Well not 100% French speaking, more like 75% or so.

And well the thing is that our political structure is so damn complicated that it's killing itself.
