Obama and gay stuff

Just wondering, have I ever pushed my beliefs on you guys? D:

I don't think gay people should be allowed to marry in a religious sense, since the current set up highlights religions fault and disgusting belief systems. These beliefs should not 'evolve' or change since it is supposed to be God's word. I would question any gay persons sanity if they wanted to marry whilst being a part of one of the major religions, considering how they are viewed within them, practising or non-practising.

Marriage on a level not in line with organised religion seems like a much more sensible route to go down, both in terms of straight and gay people.

As for the Defence Of Marriage Act, I know little about it so can't comment directly on it.

THIS.

I haven't made a thread in a long time so

Hi~

SO HOW BOUT THAT OBAMA??? ...declaring the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (defines a marriage as a bond between a man and a woman) unconstitutional... Seems like a bright future for our fellow American LGBTs or not?

How do you think this will go through?

~Discuss~

I believe his right to defend the act, however if lesbians/gays want to live together there is nothing going against it..I've seen this argument debated on one of the tv shows (can't remember), very interesting. For me coming from a christian perspective I don't think its lawfully that it is okay, during abraham's time this idea of marriage between man and woman was created (whether you decide to believe it or not) {many roman and egyptian scripts have this written or enscribed on their walls of this period}..

From a modern point of view, I think that it will happen. As much as I may not be for it, it will happen and has in some states I believe. This will change the view of parenting in many nations however I do not know how much of an impact it will have. It wouldn't change the way I think of marriage, as a holy and joyful commitment between a man and woman, showing kids strength, longevity, love and peace when the roles are played as God intended.

If you as LGBT/GAY want to get married you have to ask yourself why?if still then, then go to california..I think its legal there??

Yaj Netherlands where gay-marriage is allowed and happens! :D

^^Well my dear, it sucks to move for other Americans to those so called states. Why can't they stay around their family and be married?

And the impact on family that it wil have... is none, really. Here, gay marriage is legal and gay couples have been allowed to adopt for a very long tie, yet do you see chaos in Canada lately? It's been proven too that children raised by lesbians are more respectful and do better in school than your average student.

As to why gay people get married, it's just a way to make a relationship official in front of a society. It's also the idea that something is forbidden to some people just because of who they love. It's not right. Love is love.

And on a more technical point of view, married people have got some fiscal advantages and stuff, Idk much about that part. And for instance, I'm dating my girlfriend from the united states and if I want to move there and have my citizenship (or her have the Canadian one), it is a whole lot easier for us to get it by getting married.

Gay marriage feels like the sort of thing we'll be ashamed it took so long to legalize 100 years from now.

I agree with you. I think that people should be allowed to marry whomever they want whereever they want. The idea of redefining marriage is completely BS to me. I see marriage as a union between two people who love each other.

In fact I believe that legalizing it would be better for the country socially because (though people would be against it) it would make people less ignorant and open minded towards how people choose to live their lives, and also help show that being who you are no matter what it is is okay.

yeah I agree... just how I guess the same goes for rights for Women and African Americans

Was actually gonna use that as an example.

^^ I almost wrote the open minded thing in my post but thought that Muso would pick on it. But it's true though. The future generations (like the ones who are still 0 to 5 years old) will so be exposed to the gay rights battle that they will be a lot more accepting and open minded. Or so I think. Because let's face it, gay rights have made a whole lot of progress in the past 10 years only and it can only go better.

and I agree with you both. so silly.

He might as well, racist hicks can't possibly hate him any further.

Fix'd, issue concerns intersex too

This is beautiful.

I don't really see my rights being any different to a straight person, other than the Marrige issue of course.

Maybe not as an english woman, but all around the world, the progress is enormous. Marriage, adoption, other inds of civil union that were forbidden to gay people before and without it being a right, the respect towards gay people has grown too. And in some African countries, homosexuality was lawfully wrong and some people were killed by the state because of their sexual orientation, but in some of these countries now, homosexuality is legally okay now (not all of them, of course).

Oh in deleloping Countries I'm sure alot of progress has been made, I was only really refering to the Western World where it's not much of an issue, I've been very lucky, I've never really been on the reciving end of many homophobis remarks.

Me neither, my friends actually say that my gf and I look cuter than a straight couple haha.
