March 2, 201115 yr So with all of these big topics coming ahead I thought it might be interesting to start a debate thread. Now the purpose of this would be to have a flowing debate among the various members of the forum, but rather using the forum we would use something like tinychat, which makes it easier for us to communicate instantaneously with each other (rather than waiting on posts). It's not as if these chats will take away from the threads on the forum, but they should just make the debates like I said active and fast. So this is just an idea I had. If people think it's stupid or if there's no point since we already have threads devoted to topics that's fine. I just wanted to get an idea.
March 2, 201115 yr 1st Topic of Debate: Is a Debate Thread a Good Idea? Firstly I totes misread and thought this was intended to be the thread to debate in, like all topics in here, I wrote about a paragraph of WTFness before realising. God I woulda looked a newb, good thing I didn't and nobody knows about it. Lul I dont wanna change the title of this post. I rather like the idea of debating in TinyChat but I can't imagine going on it that much and I definitely can't imagine the room having a near enough consistency of members coming and going for people who care even less then me to go in and actually wait for it to build. Mark my words Mike, this is EPIC fail. Let's try it anyway though. I can also imagine it being a lil awkward like: mike: hey reilly reilly: hey mike: hows it going reilly: fine thnx you? mike: good reilly: good *several minutes later* mike: so what should we debate reilly: your face
March 2, 201115 yr Author ok... I mean I know that a lot of people won't show up consistently, just like with the Listening Parties. But I guess we can test it out, see how it works and if it fails it fails and this thread gets lost in the numerous threads already lost
March 2, 201115 yr Anything's worth a try once. EDIT: Anything within reason is worth a try. I didn't want "anything" to be taken in that literal of a context.
March 2, 201115 yr Author yeah. also i figured that we'd pick a topic well in advance so if people are unfamiliar with a topic they can research it.
March 2, 201115 yr Oh I thought you meant like a consistently running chat room, if it were like a debate version of a LP it might work.
March 2, 201115 yr Author oh... no consistent chat room... I was planning on just having the debates be like a LP in that they are planned and on specific topics.
March 2, 201115 yr That would still suck. Just having it on the board allows people more time to participate and the such
March 2, 201115 yr Author alright... so I need some suggestions for our first debate topic, and also when is a good time to have it.
March 2, 201115 yr Maybe try to keep it with current events? So maybe this week could be something like the thread that's in the News section- Would you support a UN invasion of Libya to overthrow the government. :uhoh:
March 2, 201115 yr As a minor discussion point, not a major, I wouldn't mind discussing this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-12606610
March 2, 201115 yr Maybe try to keep it with current events? So maybe this week could be something like the thread that's in the News section- Would you support a UN invasion of Libya to overthrow the government. :uhoh: I agree with the current events thing. Keeps it fresh and you tend to get more of individual peoples opinions rather than sound bites that have been knocking around for years supporting or devaluing a common theory.
March 2, 201115 yr Author I agree that those topic seem good especially the Libya one. Perhaps instead of it being just Libya, it can encompass all of the revolutions and protests that have happen these last few weeks/months
March 2, 201115 yr I'd love to join in but I don't use tinychat and I'm not terribly encouraged to use it anytime soon.
