Thought of this question as I heard of yet more dispelled rumours of a Stone Roses comeback. Over the years many bands/groups have split up and reunited some successfully coming back other realising perhaps it was best for them to remain split. What do you make of reunions though? What do you make of bands that you love but do not exist but would be capable of a reunion? Take a band like The Smiths for instance. No band has ever been called out more for a reunion than they have and if tomorrow Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce announced they were getting back together I would be intrigued and excited but very sceptical. At the end of the day I think I would rather not see them reform as they have a lasting legacy that continues today and doesn't need touched upon any more. They were perfect as they are.

 

I also wonder about The Beatles and what would have happened had they reunited if the rumours that they were going to play a gig in Central Park around the time of John Lennon's death were true or when Lennon and McCartney had plans to get the 4 back together before Yoko Ono scuppered the plans in 1974.

Whatever. It's up to them. Some need the money, some have lots of fans who want to see them. I can avoid the ones I don't like.

 

Peter Hook is a disgrace though.

Bon Jovi should go away forever, they outlasted their welcome long ago imo.

Fugees reunion would be cool.

it depends on the band. I think overall reunions tend to be blown up in hype but are never as good.

 

It seems most of them are just a money grab which I think is terrible. It should be more about the music.

Yeah Johnny Marr said The Smiths were offered $50m to come back and do 3-5 shows back in 2007. It was rejected pretty swiftly which was great to hear. Obscene money.

bands need to realise when they've run out of good ideas and they're past their expiration date. or even if they do make new music, do it in a low key way, maybe just use it as an excuse to go on tour again. rather than pretending you're still at your peak and centering an entire world tour around a mediocre album.

 

with the massive number of reunions in the last few years i dont think we can take any band seriously when they say they're calling it quits.
