Synthpop and the new romantics could count as sub genres of pop. I would certainly see a-ha as great pop from the 80s.

 

But I'd agree about Spandau Balley - Tony Hadley had a powerful voice! There was a lot of powerful voices from that decade come to think of it.

Looking back there were countless one hit wonders that were so great in the 80s :0

I love 80's pop. I grew up with it :D
