"I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out: Are they pro-America or anti-America?"

I mean just things like this is enough for me to want to just swap my citizenship. People actually think like this!

"I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter. And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence."

"Normalization [of gayness] through desensitization. Very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders is take a picture of 'The Lion King' for instance, and a teacher might say, 'Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man?' The message is: 'I'm better at what I do, because I'm gay.'"

:worried:

The USA, the only country where the run-up for the presidential election starts so very early with the primaries & crap

Why are all da ladies trying to run for head of state such idiots?

Can we not get one smart female up in dis shit that can be even considered sensible?!

I know she's not running but what about Hillary Clinton

Mitt will get the nomination, but he is a flip flopper. He used to be in the middle, but now he is pretending to be super conservative. I think he was pro-choice, but now says he is pro-life. there are some other things he has switched on. Anyways, that will be used against him. I think Obama will win again.

when I think about it I don't really get what the big deal is in some sense of flip flopping. I mean if it's done for soley political reasons to get votes then I see it being wrong. But personally I feel it's not so bad if it's because you have simply changed your opinion on a given topic because of new information you've been given.

But of course people won't like that.

Still, not really a fan of Romney... seems extremely fake, but I'd take him over idiots like Bachmann anyday

A part of me hopes Ron Paul doesn't win, because whoever the next president is... it's probably going to be when the economy totally collapses. I don't want people blaming that on Ron Paul or libertarians.

dude if you search lesbian or anything like that there's a rainbow on the search thingy

Reading her Wikipedia article is the funniest shit I've done all day

Is she even real?

Sometimes I really don't understand how people who are so obviously fucked up can even make it close to becoming a presidential candidate in the States.

Maybe they get paid off by the mediocre candidates to pretend like they're running, that way it makes the mediocre candidates look awesome in comparison.

I wish there was some intelligent conspiracy like that going on - because otherwise, what does that say about the minds of many Americans, and the power of marketing?

It looks like they'll be vying for the VP's spot, more Dan Quayle clones - they just have to look good, they don't have to be smart!

it's a good point.

it seems most americans are easily bought into these simple minded people to be their representatives. It seems that ever since bush was elected this has been the case. Because although he can't speak well, at least he is a real american in his values and how he acts. I feel this is how a lot of Americans feel.

To be honest I really don't care too much if they're a "real american" or their family values. I think if they seem like a good leader and also intelligent it's most important.

Also from what you've mentioned it seems to me to just build on the fact that the rest of the world sees us as being stupid for electing these idiots.

it's a good point.

> Yes, it's almost as though if you just put on the "all-American" cheese label, that alone sways the simpletons. I was pondering the though that perhaps since things in the modern world have gotten so complicated, the desire for simple isms and folksy language has an even stronger appeal than ever before among those who feel overwhelmed by modernity. Then what seems to matter in times of uncertainty is someone who can make the masses feel confident in selecting a comfortable sounding candidate they identify with. With that, throw in God, Country, Apple Pie, Big Daddy and Den Mama, Flags aloft, and you're set.

Oh, and do the USA USA USA USA chant too. After all, George Bush was a cheerleader for Yale once!:laugh3:

But yes, it's quite embarrassing the people who make their way into high office sometimes. That's why it's up to us, the rational thinking Americans, to make sure we show up to vote!

Why are we always fucking generalizing about the supposed stupid-hick majority in America? Chrissakes.

I agree... I mean the whole chanting of USA over and over I find a bit embarrassing. I mean if only they knew of the attrocities that our country (as well as every other country) has committed, might make them thing twice.

Also another thing that really annoys me is the whole God Bless America. As if God would really give a shit about this country. It's just a line that really annoys the hell out of me every time I hear it.

good point. But it's still a huge majority of the country that follows and votes for idiots like Palin, Bachmann, Pelosi, Reid, Bush, etc.

My point is basically that if someone is to run a country they should at least be somewhat intelligent and able to do so. But I feel that a lot of people would have someone that they can relate to more rather than be above them. I mean face it. A lot of people really like Sarah Palin. But she is an utter moron. But many are willing to put that aside because she can act sassy or seems more down to earth. To be honest I could care less about that and the thought of her in high office seriously scares me.

Um not really? Have you ever followed an election? They tend to be split almost 50-50 like all of the time.

edit: I know that was rude and I'm somewhat sorry but come on Mike. let's get it together

okay so it's 50-50.

still that's a large amount of the country or county or state (depending on what kind of election it is) that is voting for an idiot.

I mean don't you find it at least in the slightest bit unsettling that people as I mentioned can make it into high office and run a country? It's not possible any more since she's no longer speaker of the house, but the thought that Nancy Pelosi was in reach of being president (god forbid anything happened to both Obama and Biden) is a scary thought.

I'm just saying, if I want someone to lead my district, or state, or country I'd rather have it be someone that looks intelligent and seems to know what they are doing.

Yeah I agree with that sentiment haha, but it just gets on my nerves when people get this special-snowflake mentality about the rest of the country -- like most of the people I know who are conservatives aren't fucking hick-idiots like so many liberals portray all conservatives as... I know you weren't targeting conservatives in particular cuz of how you mentioned Pelosi and etc, but I still find it annoying when people assume others are idiots just because they vote for a percieved-as-stupid candidate. Sad fact is most of the time the 2 major candidates are BOTH idiots and nobody can do anything about it because they're the ones who work the hardest for the nomination.

I don't think you're really targeting a specific political party or viewpoint as being composed of just idiots (which a LOT of my friends do ALL the time, which is why it's such a sore subject for me) but in general people going on about how dumb the "rest of America" is just tend to grind my gears yanno.

> Which all leads me back to the central issue of the money behind the candidates being used to sell the candidates on TV. True, smart is better, ethical is best, but what sells is often what gets past the censors upstairs in the minds of the viewers. Since it's 50-50, that leaves it up to the last-minute undecided voters! But either way, the financing is too similar, too much, too lopsided, and that turns off a large number of voters. And those who take the most get in, generally speaking - negative campaign ads get results.

Yes, some of those wonderful conservatives are uber-wealthy megalomaniacs, which is part of the plutocracy gumming up our democracy. But for the true conservatives, the Eisenhower conservatives, I really wish they held more cache within the Republican camp. Sensible people deserve the best chance of getting elected, and for that we need campaign finance reform, if necessary an amendment.

yeah I see what you mean. I mean I'm not trying to put down any particular party. Personally I think that so many political figures just seem really uneducated, regardless of how they are affiliated. The problem I have with conservatives is that for the most part I don't agree with them on social issues, and also they tend to put a lot of emphasis on religion (I know it's a bit of generalization, but from my stand point that's what I see). Liberals on the other hand seem to be too idealistic with things and I don't agree with them in terms of spending.

I do agree, and I apoligize if I've offended anyone by calling them stupid for supporting or voting for someone. I just feel that some of these peoples views, or what they say is so out there and ridiculous that I don't see how anyone can feel comfortable voting or supporting them.

I see what you mean and I guess perhaps I was being too harsh. But at the same time I feel that in terms of education our country falls so far behind other ones. And I just think that it's a bit too much too see some people hail this country as being the best in the world when there are so many flaws (as with any other country). I guess although it may be another generalization, that since there's a lot of egotism associated with the country that many people can feel it's okay to slack off. Like (i know he's biased but) Bill Maher had a segment on his show a few years ago where he was giving out statistics of how many people in the country didn't know things like what the 3 branches of government were. It's just things like that that seem like such common sense that I don't see how people could not know.

sorry for the long post btw.

I agree that I has to do with money. But at the same time I think it has to do with people being comfortable. I mean lets face it. If ideally all parties had equal spending for campaigns I still think that Republicans and Democrats would win, just because people probably wouldn't be so comfortable with supporting a party that has no record of leading. Though it's a conundrum, because those parties haven't had a chance to lead.

haha don't worry about it being long. I'm sorry for singling you out just based on that one statement when I pretty much agree with the rest of what you were saying :P
