Stop Rupert Murdoch's UK Media Takeover

Featured Replies

The UK is currently caught up in a phone hacking scandal into the phones of murder victims, dead soldiers families and the families of the London bombings committed by one of the country's biggest selling newspapers the News Of The World (which will now be stopped printing), owned by Rupert Murdoch's News International.

Last week Jeremy Hunt (UK Culture Secretary) said he'll allow Murdoch to own all of BSkyB. Now a series of reports of criminal and indecent Murdoch journalism are coming out -- hacking murdered Milly Dowler, the Soham girls, and the 7/7 families! We have 48 hours to flood the BSkyB public consultation and stop the deal.

We've done it before -- in the last consultation Hunt said our avalanche of 40,000 messages delayed the deal as his officials had to read each email carefully, fearing a legal challenge. Now our voices could halt the deal and get a full inquiry into this vile hacking.

Murdoch's media tramples standards and ignores ethics, and the whole country is horrified. But the government is pushing to give him full control of our largest commercial broadcaster. It's an outrage and threatens the very pillars of our democracy! The official consultation ends on Friday. Send a message now calling on Hunt and Cameron to refuse Murdoch's BSkyB deal until there's a full Competition Commission review and a full public inquiry into phone hacking

Please sign the petitions below to let David Cameron and his government know of the displeasure of this potential deal.

Bit late to be doing shit about that, he's already got shitloads of companies worldwide

Err that's not the point of the petition. It's clearly not about taking down the whole Murdoch empire. It's about trying to prevent the UK government shamelessly selling off BSkyB to Murdoch meaning he doesn't own an even bigger part of the UK media to influence the country politically. Since the 80s Murdoch's often been called the 24th member of the Cabinet, his postion superseding that of many senior ministers in this country which is totally wrong.

I think I'll pass, thanks. :nice:

No worries. I'm just putting it out there so it gets as much exposure as possible. The original target of the Avaaz petition was 40,000 at first, now it's quickly reaching the new target of 200,000. It and the 38 Degrees petitions have done so well across the Uk which is great to see.

I think we can already see what the government will do and they will most probably sell it off when the decision is made in September but it's good that they know a massive backlash awaits from the public if they do so. If Cameron really cared about 'real change' and trust he'd go along with public opinion but we all know higher forces influence what his and countless UK governments do.

My point being, he already has a buttload of influence in the UK most likely :blank:

He has a big influece in the printed press but still remains intent on a greater influence in the broadcasting arena. His influence on the televised media extends only into a stake within BSkyB which he is looking to buy out, against the will of many who pay for it and those concerned about fair truthful broadcasting.

The Sky's clearly the limit for Mad Murdoch.......................
