KONY 2012

Featured Replies

Oh no, no, no, no people. Please don't fall for this bullshit.

Kony has around 100 followers today. He hasn't done anything in six years, and he was at his height of danger around 15 years ago. That's before a lot of you were born. He has fled Uganda and has no real support at all. This documentary is one of the worst pieces of journalism you could hope to find.

Don't jump on the band wagon without thinking. There is bundles and bundles of information about this on the internet. Do some research before you blindly follow what a Youtube video tells you to.

If you actually want to watch a video with accurate information, watch this:

^ now that video was worth a watch.

I know everyone is still excited by the Kony drama.

Only yesterday my best friend told me to keep my "negativity" to myself, because she donated to the company. I have not said one thing on facebook or tumblr about it since everyone got excited about becoming activists.

Honestly, this was the only place I actually came and ranted on.

I've come to the same conclusion. Not the first or last time something like this sweeps my news feed.

Ugh. I feel for you.

Someone donating to this bullshit is the antithesis of an "activist". All they've done is watch a youtube video, decide not to do any research and throw their money to a pointless cause. Then, when confronted with the truth they tell you to keep your "negativity" away from them.

People be stupid my friend.

Her argument started out with "I haven't done my full research, just donated some money to a worthy cause". If you haven't done research on a company, why would you then donate money to them? I would rather set all my belongings on fire. That's how much I dislike this whole thing.

She then told me that because I wasn't taking her side on it she was really upset with me and that I need to watch the video again, and I quote, "because the little kid made her think twice". Yeah, make a child sad in a video and get millions of people to love you for it.

Well Done, IC, Well Done.

This made me laugh.

I don´t know wether to feel proud about being 15 and not caring, or to feel sad because I don´t care.

I don't care about this. Why? Because whilst what happened was bad, it isn't a state of emergency and there is no reason to donate to this charity. Kony isn't in Uganda, he hasn't done anything in six years and he no longer holds an army that is capable of doing much at all.

Kony is a bad man, but this Kony 2012 campaign is a scam. There are a million more international issues that deserve far more attention than this.

I finally watched this last night, and it really wasn't quite as impacting as I was expecting. I didn't learn anything about what I'm expected to donate towards, about a quarter of it was very brief and vague information about Kony, and very little detail about exactly what he's doing and who it affects, the rest was about posters, bracelets, celebrities and crowds of Americans monotonously repeating phrases like zombies (That bit was hilarious).

Overall it was about being involved in activism instead of the reasons for being an activist in itself.

I guess the way I see it, I don't want to sit around and wait for a different organization to come along. It's been going on too long at this point, and Invisible Children seems to be taking the lead in this.

I don't doubt they spend a lot of money on travel and marketing. I know they aren't perfect, no company or charity is. They did however, put enough pressure on the US government to send soldiers to protect some of these areas. That's a first, and I see it as some sort of accomplishment.

I think you can support this cause without giving money (if that worries you). There are tons of politicians you can write to listed on their website. It's free, and you can still feel worthwhile doing something.

But Kony has not even done a thing to Uganda -- or even been seen -- in the past six years. Kiame posted a video about a Ugandan girl who posted her thoughts on this. Yes, what Kony did was bad. But, it has been over for a long, long time and Invisible Children just want money.

I lost it at "masturbating in public".

I like how that CEO guy tried to make it sound like he broke down because he just loves Africa, so much

He loves Africa so much indeed. :wink3:

I think he likes Africa too much.

This is great, just checked my university E-mail, and turns out I'm still on their mailing list from an event they had three years ago:

Dear IC Family,

As you may have heard, our co-founder, Jason Russell, was hospitalized Thursday, March 15th after an incident brought on by exhaustion, dehydration and two of the most intense weeks of his life. Along with the spotlight came senseless, personal attacks against him, his wife and his children. He's in good hands now, but please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers.

Though this is a difficult time for us personally, it will not stop the Invisible Children team from pursuing our mission of stopping LRA violence in central Africa. We have made huge commitments and we are going to see them through.

Below is a video from our CEO, Ben Keesey, and a written message from Jason’s wife. Please take the time to watch the video and read the message.

Sincerely,

The Invisible Children Management Team

“Thank you to everyone concerned with Jason and his health. Jason has dedicated his adult life to this cause, leading up to KONY 2012. We thought a few thousand people would see the film, but in less than a week, millions of people around the world saw it. While that attention was great for raising awareness about Joseph Kony, it also brought a lot of attention to Jason—and, because of how personal the film is, many of the attacks against it were also very personal, and Jason took them very hard.

Let us say up front- that Jason has never had a substance abuse or drinking problem, and this episode wasn’t caused by either of those things. But yes, he did some irrational things brought on by extreme exhaustion. On our end- the focus remains only on his health, and protecting our family. We’ll take care of Jason, you take care of the work.

The message of the film remains the same: stop at nothing.”

-Jason's wife on behalf of the Russell Family

Dear lord, they're really trying to play this up. -_-

Must have been a really good fap then HUR HUR HURDY GUR

Oh God how many times do these assholes need to be discredited before they just admit they were disingenuous. I thought this might be a reason for them to do so, but they are actually trying to use it to gain even more publicity.

By the way, that video was hilarious. "We thought our film would have 500,000 viewers. It got way more. Because of this, Jason stripped off and fapped in public whilst screaming to the devil. Come on, cut the guy a break and donate to us!"

:whatever:
