I posted this in another thread but they asked Bruce Springsteen who should play at next year's Super Bowl Halftime show and he said it should be Coldplay.

GO err... ANY TEAM!!!

I don't know shit about american football.

Why is everyone rooting for the Steelers?

Yeah, I'm clueless about it too, but my very good friend Jeff is a Steelers fan, so I thought I'd cheer them on too.

It's the first time I've ever even known who's playing

Because they are one of the most famous and popular teams in the NFL along with the Cowboys.

I couldn't care less who wins the game. I just thought it was nice that The Boss thinks Coldplay should perform at next year's SB.

YEAH!!!!!! Thanks Als! GO STEELERS!!!!! WOOOOOT!

Big Ben ROCKS!

Long story short...there used to be two football leagues (the AFL and the NFL) whose champions would play one another at the end of the season. It was called the AFL/NFL World Championship game. This is before they merged into the NFL we know today. Anyway, since the college football teams play in bowl games at the end of their season, the word bowl would be incorporated into the title game because of its association with the post season. Lamar Hunt (president of the KC Chiefs) thought of the name "The Super Bowl" and that is how the final game got its name.
